Is there a strange virus going around?

This is a really odd one!
started on Friday with a very sudden sore throat. Low grade fever overnight, woke to awful muscle pains, neck ache and a general feeling of low level unwell.
Saturday felt off with a running nose and aches and pains. Kept feeling warm and waves of nausea. Overnight into Sunday stomach pains started with diarrhoea and nausea, snotty nose, shivery, headache.
Symptoms are coming and going, feel a bit better one minute then headachey and off the next. Every time I eat I get stomach cramps and loose stool. Not positive for Covid (old tests tho).

It’s the stomach issues that are unusual, it’s like a low level flu bug but with a bad stomach too.

Anyone else have this?

Yeah - to be honest I think mines either in a state of depletion from everything I’ve picked up or it’s in hyperdrive like ‘fuuuuu*k’ we better up the game / not switch off. I think you’re right - I’ve had covid many times and it’s taken a long time to get over but the flu viruses which haven’t been covid have been the ones which have floored me. There was one last year that really did a number on me for like 6-7 weeks. Either way, we will be alright. Watching handmaids tale now - not sure that’s the best thing for my nervous system!

I’m on day 10. Left the house for an hour today & I’m exhausted. Still blinding headache. Aches & pains. Coughing bouts that don’t let up. I’m considering just giving in & getting signed off

Frosty1000 · 02/12/2024 22:07

Day 11 here, tested positive on the 22nd. Thought I was getting better as fatigue was easing but last night had the most horrendous headache and felt peculiar. By lunchtime today I've got a cough. I didn't have a cough with my positive result a week ago 😟

Talkabtit101 · 03/12/2024 06:08

Day 30 here

Thought I was turning a corner on the weekend, yet woke up with the worst nausea.

Fatigue is still there, I wake up wanting to go back to sleep as it feels I haven't even slept.
Chest is feeling ok, I keep getting odd chest movement which i dont know if theyre my heart or muscle.

Thegrassroots26 · 03/12/2024 08:10

Very strange illness indeed… I developed a cough last night… 16 days in.. weird.
But in more hopefully news I woke feeling a bit better today and have actually put makeup and earrings on 😮😮… no idea if this slight improvement will last more than a couple of hours, but here’s hoping 🤞

sending get well wishes to all suffering from this hideous affliction x

I think this is what I've had. COVID, then about 6 weeks later the virus you're all talking about.

I now have what appears to be post viral fatigue, tight chest, virtually no energy and palpitations. I ended up in A&E last week with tachycardia (thought I was having a heart attack).

💐💐💐💐 to us all.

Delatron · 03/12/2024 08:40

Still struggling with post viral fatigue now. I know I’m overdoing it but I’m coming up to 5 weeks and I just simply can’t rest anymore.

I know it doesn’t really matter but I used to run loads and had races in the diary. All missed and I’m not sure when I’ll even be able to exercise again.

Hope everyone feels better soon. I have no idea why it’s lasting so long.

Cloxs · 03/12/2024 12:02

I’ve now got a horrible stomach. I’m so done in with this now. I’ve never known anything like it and my spirits are very much in the shitter

I found these videos very helpful and am following the advice in the 3rd/4th ones:

Yeah it’s like a constant onslaught of symptoms isn’t it? Really grinds you down….

I’m definitely having a much better day and have been sitting upright or mobile for the whole morning. Not sure what the rest of it holds, but trying not to overdo it.

Thank you so much for this @didntlikethis . The videos were so helpful in understanding what has been going on. I fear I’m in a boom and bust cycle. Definitely overdoing it. Need to have a big rethink on what I’m trying to do on a daily basis.

I found sharing them with my family very helpful too.

Delatron · 03/12/2024 16:17

Thanks @didntlikethis . I’m
so upset with my DH. He basically thinks I’m better or making it up. Like I want to lie around and not do anything fun.

On Saturday friends were going out and he said ‘oh why aren’t you going out too?’🤯.

didntlikethis · 03/12/2024 16:22

@Delatron DH was very concerned about me but we were both struggling to understand what was happening and how I could get back to health. I'm not there yet, but the videos have at least outlined a path to recovery. I'm feeling loads better today and but must resist the temptation to 'boom' now.
Good luck!

Delatron · 03/12/2024 16:28

Ahh @didntlikethis he sounds very sympathetic and understanding. Hopefully my DH will start to understand.

The videos have helped me understand to do less than I can for a good amount of time to get ‘stable’ again. Then add 10%. Putting any thoughts of running out of my mind for now.

Samandytimlucypeterolivia · 04/12/2024 22:58

ds16 has had it since week of Halloween, symptoms coming and going, he also had to have cross linking done on his eye, so he’s been through it all, it finally did one over the weekend. He’s been in a better mood all week.

Thegrassroots26 · 07/12/2024 08:08

How are people doing? I developed a really sore neck yesterday. Spent most of the day in bed again yesterday. It will be three weeks tomorrow since it started..

Delatron · 07/12/2024 09:07

Sorry to hear that @Thegrassroots26

I still have lingering fatigue and general rib pain- not too bad. And I can still feel irritation in chest and lungs. I can do things though so just trying to balance rest and activity to hope that I improve now.

Have cancelled work next week and got a dog walker in as I have concluded I was doing too much. Hoping this will be the key.

I have never been ill for so long in my life. I do think for me the virus went a while ago and I’m stuck with post viral fatigue.

Thegrassroots26 · 07/12/2024 09:12

That’s good to idea in terms of your improvements. I’m also not working now.

I’m just going to try head pads and ibruprofen gel and lots of water today…
If this is flu, it’s way worse than the two lots of Covid I’ve had in previous years.

Delatron · 07/12/2024 09:36

Yes whatever it is it’s very strange. Seems to cause a lot of inflammation in the body..and just lasts and long time.

Hope your neck improves. Heatpads and ibruprofen sound like a good plan!

VaddaABeetch · 07/12/2024 11:41

I’m on about day17 & no better. Was at the doc yesterday for a condition I have & she gave me drugs. Anti inflammatory, antibiotic as chest is infected. Dic says she’s seeing lots of people with this & it hangs about 6 weeks

She also told me it killed 2 of her elderly patients, not sure why she told me this!

Thegrassroots26 · 07/12/2024 12:51

@VaddaABeetch wow, that does not surprise me re it killing off elderly patients… It is brutal.
Well I really hope it hasn’t got another three weeks to go as I am seriously losing the will here..

Delatron · 07/12/2024 13:07

@VaddaABeetch Ah that’s so awful about the elderly patients. If it’s taking down healthy people for this amount of time you can see how it could get very serious for them.

Are you able to say what the anti inflammatory medication is? Or is it an antibiotic? I feel I have so much inflammation in my chest and ribs.

VaddaABeetch · 07/12/2024 13:32

@Delatron its doxycycline. It’s an antibiotic but has antii inflammatory properties too

I can feel it working already. My chest was very congested & inflamed

Delatron · 07/12/2024 13:59

@VaddaABeetch Ah I’m pleased it’s already kicking in. Hope you continue to improve.
