For anyone who wants a boost to their general health. The suggested goals are:

EAT 10 PORTIONS OF FRUIT AND VEGETABLES EVERY DAY - if you don't usually eat much fruit and veg I would build up gradually or you could upset your digestion.

DO (AT LEAST) 10 MINUTES OF EXERCISE EVERY DAY - can be yoga, stretching or something more energetic. The plan is that the idea of doing 10 minutes is not too daunting, and having started you may well find you want to do more.

There are no restrictions on what you eat so long as you get your 10 fruit and veg as well. The focus is not on weight loss but on improving our energy levels and hopefully our general mood and well-being. Sign up below and post here to tell us how you're getting on and how you are feeling.

Basic guidance on what constitutes a portion of fruit and veg here and you can download more detailed information by following the link at the very bottom of the page

One of you veggers aske dfor my mexican bake recipe on the pother thread.

Plaese forgive my quantities!!

Fry off an onion (I use red), a couple of cloves of garlic and two peppers ( I use green as they are leftover!). For about 5 mins??

Then add either two tins chopped tomatoes or about 6-8 normal tomatoes, well chopped.

Add some chilli ( I use 2/3 of a teaspoon of chilli flakes). Also a splash of red wine vinegar and about half teaspoon sugar of you have it.

Simmer for about 12 mins.

Add tin of sweetcorn.

Simmer for 3 more minutes.

Using a casserole/lasagne dish, layer the sauce with one of tortilla chips, I usually do 3 layers, ending with tortillas.
then cover top with sour cream and then grated cheese.

Bake uncovered for 15 mins.

Sounds weird because of tortilla chips, but it is very nice and comforting.

And meat eaters normally like it too!

Had keftovers of this again for lunch

And leftover choc cake.

I make the same thing, littlerach but add black beans and refried beans and use flour tortillas. It's yummy. You can use plain yoghurt instead of sour cream.

We went to the zoo this morning which is always a little depressing on so many levels. I realised DS sees more lions than he does cows. How ridiculous is that? Much as I love this city, it makes me very sad that he will never see cows or sheep in a field. Or Hedgehogs. They don't even have hedgehogs here.

FrannyandZooey · 17/03/2008 18:48

come on chaps I want VEGETABLE TALLIES

I have had cabbage and broccoli and sweetcorn
I am planning yogurt and grapes later, am sure that will tip me over the 10

Oh, I forgot:

Red cabbage, carrot, raisins, blueberries, lentils, peppers, onions, cranberries

  • whatever I'll have for dinner. So I think I'll make 10 today. Plus lots of walking at the zoo. That counts, right?

hello

Oh Mrs C - what a fucking horrible thing. A very lovley friend of mine has just has an almost identical diagnosis - she is having a hysterectomy in April but they are leaving her ovaries so it won't be the menopause. Sorry that might be too much infomration but it is a coincidence and if I hadn't met you I might think it was you and that would be weird.

I can't imagine how you are feeling but I imagine it is scary and shaky and strange and you just want life to be normal but there is always something buzzing in your head.

Sorry I am not being very constructive and not doing that thing of saying the right thing - I was just checking in and wasn't going to post much but I couldn't not post.

I will think about you in a real way not just in a saying that way.

BBBee

Have also had an apple (during my apple polishing session with the dcs)

For dinner, we had cauliflower and potato bake, which included leeks, kidney beans and celery. Had that with peas and garlic mushrooms.

So all in all not too bad, will try and snack on some clementines during the evening to boost my levels up.

littlerach · 17/03/2008 19:38

Underated, can you type put the whole recipe for htta, as i hsave soem black beans in the cupbaurd?

FrannyandZooey · 17/03/2008 20:05

Will post recipe later, lr, although it is more a 'see what you've got and throw it all in' type of meal.

Well I have mnaged to reach 10 today, but exercise has evade me.
on the plus side DD has eaten lettuce and passion fruit for the first time. I do hope a bit more rubs off on her, she is only 3 though.

pinkspottywellies · 17/03/2008 20:24

MrsC. I don't know what to say. Just the same as everyone else I guess. Talk to us as much as you need to and just yell if there's anything we can do.

FrannyandZooey · 17/03/2008 20:27

lettuce and passion fruit is quite exciting and sophisticated when you are 3

ds loves eating veg but he is rubbish at using a knife and fork (is 5 in a few weeks). Any advice? I do nag him and today he actually tried hard and did very well, but should I just leave it and lead by example rather than nagging? I don't amazingly like seeing messy eating...but he does enjoy food very much and will eat most things....don't want to harrass him

FrannyandZooey · 17/03/2008 20:27

PSW I reckon I can let you off with a note as you have been so excellent about exercise lately

OP posts:
didindan · 17/03/2008 20:39

I wouldn't worry, If he can use a fork don't think using a knife correctly is that important unless you go to posh formal functions
Most adults can manage it, I think that it is a skill that comes with time and practice

FrayedKnot · 17/03/2008 20:40

Ok

I am tallying

Muesli with dried fruit, seeds & such, half a punnet of blueberries, small salad with rocket, grated carrot & pepper with hoummous, half an avocado, shepherds pie with lentils & beans, carrots & leeks, half a mango.

In between I have also eaten a sandwich and several biscuits and I am still hungry

Can you tell I am pre-menstrual

FrannyandZooey · 17/03/2008 20:43

vv good FK

didi he CAN use a fork, but forgets / doesn't bother unless hassled

are you didi 'n' dan btw? I can't make sense of your name otherwise

FrannyandZooey · 17/03/2008 20:45
