For anyone who wants a boost to their general health. The suggested goals are:

EAT 10 PORTIONS OF FRUIT AND VEGETABLES EVERY DAY - if you don't usually eat much fruit and veg I would build up gradually or you could upset your digestion.

DO (AT LEAST) 10 MINUTES OF EXERCISE EVERY DAY - can be yoga, stretching or something more energetic. The plan is that the idea of doing 10 minutes is not too daunting, and having started you may well find you want to do more.

There are no restrictions on what you eat so long as you get your 10 fruit and veg as well. The focus is not on weight loss but on improving our energy levels and hopefully our general mood and well-being. Sign up below and post here to tell us how you're getting on and how you are feeling.

Basic guidance on what constitutes a portion of fruit and veg here and you can download more detailed information by following the link at the very bottom of the page

Morning

6 whole days off work - woo hoo

not much f&v yesterday at all, must do better today.

My internal clock is utterly convinced that it's Saturday today and I keep realising that it isn't which means I can't go to the market and stock up on mangoes (uncunting).

DD is prancing around in her pink nighty and pink flip flops and a pink mask with pink fluffy deely boppers and a pink wand doing her own peculiar brand of dancing. I fear she is going to be as dangerous on the dance floor as I was in my younger days.

Tatties · 21/03/2008 11:28

Morning

Everyone's children sound gorgeous and funny

FrannyandZooey · 21/03/2008 12:38

I have had salad and lentil pate and jam and scones and cream

trying to explain to ds why Good Friday is called Good Friday when it is the day Jesus was meant to have been murdered
I am struggling

we have just read a book about how babies are made - he knew everything except how the seed got to the egg, which I keep waiting for him to ask, and don't quite understand why he hasn't asked. Anyway I got bored of waiting so I told him. He was nonplussed. I can highly recommend the book which is this one and written at a preschool kind of level, plus it has even got a brief section on IVF, which of course is more useful if your baby was born that way than the usual birth books.

oh heck ds is discussing it with dp right now "Daddy you got very close to Mummy and put your sperm in her didn't you?"
Dp "waharrrgh, yes I did [leer] (intercepts LOOK from me) oh, yes, erm, that's right, and it made a, erm, zygote

bUNS WERE GOOD THANKS bEE. Oops. There is only one left out of 21.

TooTicky · 21/03/2008 13:27

Wombling, sorry you're being kept waiting to hear about schools. Hope you get the one you want.

FrayedKnot · 21/03/2008 13:56

Crying with laughter at "zygote"

Franny that is interesting. I have been wondering for a while about how to explain to DS about his conception (IVF) and I want to do it soon so he kind of always knows iyswim rather than suddenly sprung on him and then he wonders why we didn;t tell him.

I was up at 6.40 with DS today and baked my simnel cake at 7.30. I have also spring cleaned my house

Have various relatives arriving today / otmorrow and copius amounts of food to prepare / provide....but have collapsed in a heap due to early start.

FrayedKnot · 21/03/2008 13:59

DH does the YouTube thing with DS too. It started off looking for trains and things but last time I caught them at it, they were watching clips of people doing silly things (like You've Been Framed i suppose) and howling with laughter

FrayedKnot · 21/03/2008 14:00

Ah, Toot has the multiplying cabbage problem too!

Shall I just keep posting over and over

easternalstudent · 21/03/2008 14:33

I had a lie in AND an orgasm today. AhWWOOOgah!!!

[celebratory war dance emoticon]

No veggies so far, but I am well stocked after the worst hour of my life thus far in Tesco.

ahundredtimes · 21/03/2008 15:34

[ignores orgasms]

We went to look at a ruin on the side of a hill in a valley which friends are going to buy. They are going to live in a caravan for two years with their three children. It was overwhelming.

I froze the other day, when ds1 (10) started asking about sex. I don't know why - I was quite shocked at myself. I'd done the whole number when he was small, and that seemed to be fine, but now here was this ten y-o asking demanding questions and I FROZE. That's bad isn't it? I made dh talk to him. They sat on the bed and talked about erections and I could hear dh saying 'oh it's all enormous fun and a good idea to have LOTS of sex when you are old enough, but much better with someone you like and trust, that's the best, but generally speaking it's just marvellous really' and I CRINGED listening on the stairs. Anyway dh did a good job really - I think - he was certainly enthusiastic.

FrannyandZooey · 21/03/2008 17:06

100 I freaked out when I was nannying and in the middle of a general discussion about sex, one of the young teenagers suddenly said "Have you had sex?" which utterly threw me for some reason. I had to choke it and come back to it the next day and I still handled it badly.

FK there is a page saying "how does the seed get to the egg" and explains about how this is mostly done through sex (my only reservation is it says sex is for making babies and doesn't explain that it is just a nice things that adults do anyway). Then it says something like "another way that lots of babies are made is where the sperm and egg can't meet inside the woman and a doctor helps to put them together instead" (then very brief and simple description of fertility treatments)

I thought I would mention it as a friend of mine said she had struggled to know what to say to her (IVF) dd about how babies were made and the usual books were no help as they assume you have conceived naturally. It's a good book IMO anyway.

LOL at Mr 100! I hope we will all be able to be a bit more open about these discussions than our parents, well my parents anyway. You do have to nerve yourself up a bit sometimes though.

Hello .

Have been out having hair coloured and cut and getting things for my sister's wedding, which is two weeks tomorrow .

DS was playing a game with me this morning which involved him climbing inside my dressing gown (while I was wearing it, natch). I remarked on how it was more difficult than when he was inside me. He then of course asked how he got out. I explained there was a special hole, whereupon he asked to look. He wasn't impressed, I could tell, on being shown .

I am determined to be matter of fact on the whole babies being made, coming out etc process. So far feel I am doing OK

FrannyandZooey · 21/03/2008 17:15

oooh I had my hair coloured too
it is very blonde, I haven't got used to it yet
I asked for shades of red but he said it would mix with the blonde and go pink

well done Idris; I won't show anyone mine since having ds

I learned about sex from a 12 year old boy when I was six - well he told me what a wanker was, what fucking was, dick, cock, cunt etc. I was generally outraged that adults spent such a long time doing such unpleasant things. The bit that really upset me was blow jobs. I went home and said to my mum 'is it true that people actually do this?'. And she said 'well, only if it's with someone they really really like?' and i said 'so, does this mean that you have DONE this?' and she said yes and i was appalled and disgusted at her for a long time.

And then soon after I bought an usborne book about sex and puberty and studied it to see if all this stuff was really true. I liked the little pictures of the friendly looking people growing pubic hair and figured it might be ok.

When I tried to explain sex to dd1 she looked horrified and said 'i'm only quite young, you don't need to tell me these things!'.

FrannyandZooey · 21/03/2008 17:28

I don't remember how I found out
I read a lot and my sisters were a lot older than me and had Jackie magazine to which I was allowed free access
so I probably found out from Jackie which is why I can only really enjoy sex with long haired boys in flares

I now have "lellow hair" to quote DD. Brown with blonde highlights to quote me.

S1ur · 21/03/2008 17:33

I found out at such a young age that I don't remember a 'big' 'talk'. I've told dd bits and bobs when its come up but she's 3 so I guess I going to have revisit later.

My parents were really open, which is generally fab but....

When I was erm, 12? I think. They called me downstairs and proceeded to explain all about condoms and show me how to put one on a banana

I was somewhat taken aback.

S1ur · 21/03/2008 17:35

Oh and have just done mega shop and filled up on enoooormous amounts of fruit to combat snackiness in me in the evening and to try to ween ds off me during the day.

IdrisTheDragon · 21/03/2008 17:35

Can't remember how/when I found out. I imagine my mum told me too much when I was small, and I promptly forgot it all.

UnderRated · 21/03/2008 18:19

So, Franny is now blonde, Idris is showing her DS where babies come out, Eternalstudent had a lovely start to the day, Mr ahundred times did a marvellous sex talk, Boco's DD didn't want to hear about sex and Slur's parents did the condom on the banana thing.

Did I miss anything?

I noticed a distinct lack of veg related talk.

broccoli, peas, grapes. crap.

FrannyandZooey · 21/03/2008 18:27

I ate veg
I ate mashed celeriac and swede, and steamed white beetroot

I showed my hair to ds and he said "ooh! Black bits"

OP posts:
IdrisTheDragon · 21/03/2008 18:35

I have bits of blonde in my hair too .

Um vegetables and fruit. Um. Raisins in museli. Some attempt at salad (worth about a quarter of a portion). Not really Very Good.
