For anyone who wants a boost to their general health. The suggested goals are:

EAT 10 PORTIONS OF FRUIT AND VEGETABLES EVERY DAY - if you don't usually eat much fruit and veg I would build up gradually or you could upset your digestion.

DO (AT LEAST) 10 MINUTES OF EXERCISE EVERY DAY - can be yoga, stretching or something more energetic. The plan is that the idea of doing 10 minutes is not too daunting, and having started you may well find you want to do more.

There are no restrictions on what you eat so long as you get your 10 fruit and veg as well. The focus is not on weight loss but on improving our energy levels and hopefully our general mood and well-being. Sign up below and post here to tell us how you're getting on and how you are feeling.

Basic guidance on what constitutes a portion of fruit and veg here and you can download more detailed information by following the link at the very bottom of the page

Nigella's Hot Cross Bun Recipe

I didn't do the cardamom bit and used half white/ half wholemeal flour. And I did BBBee's thing of putting a bowl of water in the oven while I baked them. They are lovely and crispy on the top but soft inside.

Dough
150ml milk
50g butter
zest of 1 orange
1 clove
2 cardamom pods
400g bread flour
1 packet easy blend yeast 97g)
125g mixed dried fruit
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
½ teaspoon ground nutmeg
¼ teaspoon ground ginger
1 egg

Egg Wash
1 egg, beaten with a little milk

For the crosses
3 tablespoons plain flour
½ tablespoon caster sugar
2 tablespoons water

Sugar Glaze
1 tablespoon caster sugar
1 tablespoon boiling water

Heat the milk, butter, orange zest, clove & cardamom pods in a saucepan until the butter melts, then leave to infuse.

Measure the flour, yeast & dried fruit into a bowl & add the spices. When the infused milk has reached blood temperature take out the clove & cardamom pods & beat in the egg. Pour this liquid into the bowl of dry ingredients.

Knead the dough either by hand or with a machine with a dough hook. If it is too dry add a little more milk or water. Keep kneading until you have silky, elastic dough but bear in mind that the dried fruit will stop this from being exactly satin smooth. Form into a ball & place in a buttered bowl covered with cling film, & leave to prove overnight in the fridge.

Preheat the oven to 220c. Take the dough out of the fridge & let it come to room temperature.

Punch the dough down, and knead it again until it is smooth & elastic. Divide into 16 balls & shape into smooth round buns.

Sit the buns on an oven tray lined with baking paper. Make sure they are quite snug together but not touching. Using the back of an eating knife, score the tops of the buns with the imprint of a cross. Cover with a tea towel & leave to prove again for about 45 minutes ? they should have risen & almost joined up.

Brush the buns with the egg wash, then mix the flour, sugar & water into a smooth thick paste. Using a teaspoon, dribble two lines over the buns in the indent to make a cross, then bake for 15-20 minutes.

When they come out of the oven, mix the sugar & boiling water, and brush each bun to make then sweet & shiny.

UR - you about?

UnderRated · 21/03/2008 02:57

why on earth are you up BBBee? Are you ok?

UnderRated · 21/03/2008 03:14

BBBee?

UnderRated · 21/03/2008 03:40

I'll assume you're tucked up in bed, BBBee, and fast asleep. Hope you are okay. I'm going to read for a but but will pop back in a while.

BBBee · 21/03/2008 03:43

oooh sorry here I am - I am up late working. How are you - tell me exotic things.

BBBee · 21/03/2008 03:45

see I got all carried away with a bit of my work. I am writing an essay and it gets very boring and I fiddle about on here and then I do some work and get all engrossed.

What are you reading?

I am reading atonement before I go to sleep - I am way in the past - most people read it YEARS ago.

UnderRated · 21/03/2008 03:50

You're working? It's very late for that.

I wish I could say I'd read atonement but I still haven't. I just finished The Catcher in the Rye and found it quite disturbing for some reason. So now I am reading some silly chick lit that my mum left last time she visited. I am really enjoying it

Hope the essay is going well.

BBBee · 21/03/2008 04:16

oh don't be chick lit surely has it;s place. When we got books for world book day I got this lovley short story for 1.99 - it was really lovely and chick litty and I lost myself in it for an hour in the bed. Was vry good for my soul.

UnderRated · 21/03/2008 04:33

I just read the Jabberwocky in an attempt to counteract the girlishness of of my other book but yes, chick-lit is like comfort food for the mind . All warm & welcoming and familiar & friendly.

I am off to bed now. Hope you finish your work soon. Night night.

FrannyandZooey · 21/03/2008 08:31

Morning all, I think Catcher in the Rye is very disturbing, it isn't a barrel of laughs. Hope everyone got to sleep

ds and dp got up very early but let me have a lie in - as soon as I came down ds said "Mummy I am having jammy toast and Daddy has put LOADS of jam on and we had a humming competition and Daddy won and we watched videos of bears on YouTube but it wasn't bad ones, nothing got eaten" (this following recent episode when they watched video of a Komodo dragon eating a pig )

so i think I had perhaps better get up earlier in future

FrannyandZooey · 21/03/2008 08:32

I put in chat the other day about my light bulb moment with dd1. She asked me at a very very rushed trying to get everyone to put their shoes and socks on moment, what a dance settee is. She was saying 'is it like a dancing settee, or a settee for dancing on? or around? and why does someone have to be in charge of it? Is that what a Lord is?' And I was just generally baffled and told her to hurry up.

But then later I found one of her countless bits of paper with writing on and it said 'darns then, where ever you may be, for I am the Lord of the darns settee' Had a PING moment - should have realised.
