For anyone who wants a boost to their general health. The suggested goals are:

EAT 10 PORTIONS OF FRUIT AND VEGETABLES EVERY DAY - if you don't usually eat much fruit and veg I would build up gradually or you could upset your digestion.

DO (AT LEAST) 10 MINUTES OF EXERCISE EVERY DAY - can be yoga, stretching or something more energetic. The plan is that the idea of doing 10 minutes is not too daunting, and having started you may well find you want to do more.

There are no restrictions on what you eat so long as you get your 10 fruit and veg as well. The focus is not on weight loss but on improving our energy levels and hopefully our general mood and well-being. Sign up below and post here to tell us how you're getting on and how you are feeling.

Basic guidance on what constitutes a portion of fruit and veg here and you can download more detailed information by following the link at the very bottom of the page

Bloody insomnia

SauerKraut · 11/03/2008 07:30

Gah, Underrated, I would have joined you at 5am this morning if I'd thought anyone would be on! Insomnia city too- drives me wild. I drank coffee and watched crap on TV instead.
Yes I was on briefly,TooT, am very touched you noticed and was sorry to have missed you, I have been mainly lurking and posting a little. Actually I was worried about you a couple of weeks ago because you hadn't been on for yonks! I nearly sent you an e-mail, I will next time. I'm sorry about your sibling difficulties. It's an odd feeling, isn't it? I have two I don't know, one of whom also looks like me, the other is the absolute image of dd1. They are a lot younger than me. Are yours similar in age to you?

lullabyloo · 11/03/2008 08:27

morning chaps
It's beautiful here this morning

blueberries,raspberries,apple,warm pear sauce
buckwheat pancakes
cucumber,beetroot,carrot juice.

Toot..I have one real brother that I never see.He chose not to see us anymore when my father left.
I grew up with my cousin (my mother's sisters son) & he & I were absolute soul mates..I adored him.
He went missing 10 years ago & I spent years trying to find him,to no avail.
I found out with the help of a mumsnetter last year that he had taken his own life a year after he vanished .
I have yet to deal with it really.

Can you/would you like to find your siblings again?

Boco · 11/03/2008 08:36

Oh dear Lully that's really sad. I'm glad that you were able to find out what happened, not knowing must have been terrible, but I'm sorry that it turned out how it did.

Have you ever tried getting in touch with your brother? do you know anything about him?

Families are strange and complicated things aren't they.

Hope the insomniacs are feeling ok.

Am feeling guilty as had a big argument with Dp starting yesterday and continuing, and I've sent him to the dentist with the girls - they really wanted me to come and I didn't so feel bad.

FrannyandZooey · 11/03/2008 08:36

oh god sorry about people's estranged siblings
seems to be another thing many of us have in common on here
(not me I am just blah about the ones I have )

Hope you got some sleep UnderRated and that you are not too tired SK

I am eating a huge piece of melon, banana, apple, raisins

I think ds is trying to do pose of a firefly while eating breakfast

FrannyandZooey · 11/03/2008 08:39

ds wet the bed, don't know why
and then had screaming fit this morning over a bush that we used to have in our garden and gave to a friend a year ago, to make room to grow vegetables. It has not been mentioned or missed since

he now wants it back
afraid to say I went and had a shower until he had calmed down or I may have shouted

I have a bit of a sore throat. Am necking elder and anything I can find in attempt to stave it off

lullabyloo · 11/03/2008 09:19

buck wheat honey is wonderful for throats franny & coughs too.

lol & ds & the bush
what made him suddenly think about it?

Boco,my brother lives with my mother, supports her etc
I know where they are now...but they dont want to see ds or I.They will happily accept money /gifts etc though
Ah well

Sorry about the row

FrannyandZooey · 11/03/2008 10:39

urk honey
I don't like it really

families can be so painful can't they

lullabyloo · 11/03/2008 10:44

me either...but I like sore throats & colds less

stuffitllama · 11/03/2008 10:55

hi sorry to hear you are all poorly and sleepless

have done the daily shop and will do pink's chilli veggie stew for tonight

have bought at least one veg never before in my basket

intake so far: 0

SauerKraut · 11/03/2008 11:13

Sorry to hear that, Lully, that's very sad. Families being so weird does make me stop and wonder how ours are going to get on later, and it's hard to watch potential problems developing and realise that in the end it will be largely up to them.
My German Granny's sore throat remedy (tried and tested!) is- cut up an onion, pour two tablespoons of hioney over it, mix and leave for a few hours. Take a spoonful of the juice this makes every few hours. Sounds gross but it's actually quite nice.

FrannyandZooey · 11/03/2008 11:46

ook
the onion sore throat remedy
hey it worked! now I just feel sick

(I think I am ok now, probably just slept with my mouth open or something )

anorak · 11/03/2008 12:01

I have a very effective remedy for colds...

A slice of toast buttered with garlic butter containing a small freshly crushed clove of garlic.

Morning and evening. Cold usually abates immediately and is gone after a couple of days. Use at first signs.

Only drawback is the garlic-breathing over others.

lullabyloo · 11/03/2008 12:02

lol at franny trying to wriggle out of honey & onion remedies....personally I add garlic too

It's raining

lullabyloo · 11/03/2008 12:02

great minds anorak......

SauerKraut · 11/03/2008 12:03

Ooooooooooh, dangerous ground there, Anorak I won't mention what I have been known to do with the stuff....

lullabyloo · 11/03/2008 12:07

I have to decide whether to lug ds up to London for miserable day of scans/tests etc tomorrow
or
leave him at nursery for morning as usual & then for lunch & bit of afternoon session.
Hmmmmmmmmmmmmm.....he is not keen suprisingly on the staying for lunch & afternoon bit,but trips to the hospital are distressing & exhausting for him...even tho I could do something fun too afterwards....

ho hum

lullabyloo · 11/03/2008 12:08

SK

lullabyloo · 11/03/2008 13:26

Have turned yesterdays lentil stew into soup for lunch with squash bread & beetroot, carrot, tomato, avocado, little gem ,watercress salad.

Off out in the rain for eggs(baking)
salt(playdough)
tea & cake (comfort)

UnderRated · 11/03/2008 13:37

Enjoy the tea and cake, Lully - you sound in great need of comfort.

Tatties · 11/03/2008 13:50

Mmmm Anorak garlic butter on toast

Lully your food sounds lovely

Sorry to hear about complicated families

SauerKraut · 11/03/2008 13:55

S'ok, Lully, no garlicky fnarr fnarr intended- it's just I managed to squeam Franny out mightily once. We are about to tuck into a very comforting lemon cake, which will last all of two seconds around these gannets.

TooTicky · 11/03/2008 14:23

SK, would you be able to see your siblings?
Mine are , I think, between 20 and 27 now.

Lully, that is awful
I have a suspicion that my dad took his own life - he was ill and in a bad way, but not close to death. I think. Nobody said anything and I didn't ask.

Have been to Bath to meet up with a friend I have known since primary school.
My debit card was declined in a shop, which is bad news for a Tuesday.
