I'm going sugar free for seven days, anyone up for giving it a go?

I'm only committing to seven days initially because if I went for more, I know I'd sulk and give up really quickly 😁

But seven days is do-able: Long enough to have a good shot at it, short enough that it's not daunting.

I'm not going insane. I'll still have sweeteners, just not sugary or sugary things. For me this will mean giving up:

  • Sweet cereal in the morning
  • Mid-morning chocolate biscuits
  • Chocolate bar after lunch
  • Mid-afternoon sweets
  • Chocolate bar after evening meal

I'm aiming to replace sugary puddings with fruit and snacks with nuts.

Anyone up for giving it a try?

I love chocolate in the evening ! My big problem

SugaryTwat · 09/07/2023 16:56

How about we check in to this thread a couple of times a day throughout the week to report on progress, gee each other up?

I’m in! Have been trying to cut back for a while now to be a better example to the DC but also for the health benefits. I’m an absolute divil for a sneaky bar of chocolate in the evening when they go to bed.

Other weak points are at work- I’m in health care and (lovely) patients are always bringing in boxes of chocolates and cakes! So much temptation. Then of course there’s the mid-afternoon tea and biscuit break….

I'm blood sugar diet by Michael Moseley. 800 kals v little carbs. 5pounds down in week 1. I've at least 4 stones to lose. Not hungry but will have a slightly carby breakfast (porridge) on days I go to the gym.

Even if you just manage to cut this out for a week, that'll be a brilliant achievement!

2.5 years in, best thing I ever did, I will however join you this week and give up crisps which have snuck back in.

I've not heard of this. I find Michael Mosley really insufferable 😀

My DP has cut out all sugar (and some other shite) and is dropping 3.5lb a week on average ATM. He's been going for about 3 weeks now. He's the one that's inspired me but I can't go as hard as him!

I gave up sugar 12 weeks ago and have lost a stone! My rules are (a) only eat at mealtimes and (b) no sweets/cake/chocolate/biscuits. I’m early 40s and was heartily sick of putting on a pound or so every six months over the past decade. It’s so much easier than I thought it would be. Good luck!

itwasntmetho · 09/07/2023 17:02

I stopped eating all processed foods including sugar for two weeks, I’m a month and a half in now, I don’t have cravings since week one and don’t want to stop it.
i mean obvs up to you but I’d advise to do for longer because the first week is the hardest so you won’t experience the free from cravings feeling for very long and you’ll only remember the hardest part so be less likely to do it ever again.

Excellent! Would you be willing to say a bit more about you being no-sugar? Do you never have sugar? Why was it the best thing you ever did, what's better? Do you find it hard to stick to? What inspired you to get started?
Sorry if this is all too nosey, please don't answer anything that's too intrusive. I'm genuinely fascinated.

If you read this, you'll never want to eat sugar again.
( I haven't given it up completely, I must admit).

Thanks, that's really useful to know and I'll keep it in mind

I think I'd just give up, probably by about 10am, if I thought it was a fairly long thing. But a week feels do-able. Even if I end up doing it longer (I hope so), I need it to feel quite short term right now!
