I'm going sugar free for seven days, anyone up for giving it a go?

SugaryTwat · 09/07/2023 16:49

I'm only committing to seven days initially because if I went for more, I know I'd sulk and give up really quickly 😁

But seven days is do-able: Long enough to have a good shot at it, short enough that it's not daunting.

I'm not going insane. I'll still have sweeteners, just not sugary or sugary things. For me this will mean giving up:

  • Sweet cereal in the morning
  • Mid-morning chocolate biscuits
  • Chocolate bar after lunch
  • Mid-afternoon sweets
  • Chocolate bar after evening meal

I'm aiming to replace sugary puddings with fruit and snacks with nuts.

Anyone up for giving it a try?

Well done on 6 days @Tontostitis!

If anyone else is still following this thread @SugaryTwat @AthenaWhite @Billybagpuss @Cece92 @CherieBabySpliffUp @Crystals35 @DinkeyDonkey @HabberdasheryAddict @Ihaterain1 @LadyLolaRuben @Musicaltheatremum @Namesecrets @OnlyFoolsnMothers @Quinque @RedLem0nade @Roundandnour @SilverGlitterBaubles @TheOutlaws @Thebigblueballoon @Watchkeys @YoureMyWifeNowDave @beeny @bellac11 @itwasntmetho @livelaughwine @mikado1 @rockingbird and has had some sugar so feels like they can’t post or join in anymore, you totally can.

Today is a new day.

How is everyone doing?

SugaryTwat · 16/07/2023 09:32

Morning all! PT session was wonderful yesterday but the dog has absolutely insane stomach problems 😬

So that kept me busy the rest if the day at the vets and cleaning up! But, I still managed no sugar!

Last day today, we got this!

PS- dog is fine now, just a little sulky.

I'm starting sugar free tomorrow. I've developed a really bad sugary tooth. X

Billybagpuss · 16/07/2023 13:30

I had crisps …… and peanuts

tomorrow is a new week

Stones123 · 17/07/2023 10:27

@SugaryTwat Hope the dog is OK now. Are you up for trying another week?

If so, welcome to a new week!

Just inviting everyone, especially @Cece92 and @Billybagpuss to check in later and let us know how your first day went. or through the day if you’re struggling.

I’m doing fine so far today. No cravings, no triggers as yet.

SugaryTwat · 17/07/2023 11:28

Fuck Sake. The dog's really unwell. She was fine Saturday then went really ill yesterday.

Yesterday was mostly fueled with crisps. No sugar though so that's something.

I'm going to try another sugar free week but I'll start tomorrow. I've only had about an hour's sleep and everything I own is covered in dog shit or vomit (only a slight exaggeration). I've already housed two ring donuts.

Sorry!

But tomorrow - once I've had some sleep - I'll be back to it!

Well done on starting another week @Stones123 You'll smash it!

@SugaryTwat It sounds really stressful. Poorly dog, everything covered in yuk, no sleep. 😔

Take it easy on yourself today. I’m sure you’re looking after the dog, so look after you too. What do you need right now? I think if I were in your shoes I’d need a massive cry.

Sending ❤️

Tontostitis · 17/07/2023 16:59

Posted this this morning but its disappeared but...
One week done. No biscuits no cakes no honey on porridge no eating the toddlers unwanted food. One glass of wine, a cheese scone and a few packs of quavers. Feel unbelievably better. 3 days of headaches and nausea were rough I'm not going to lie but the mid to late afternoon cravings have completely gone. That binging was so out of hand it had to be blood sugar levels. I've done a daily yoga practice, kept a food and emotion diary and lost 4lbs.

So sorry about your dog Sugar hope he/she is on the mend and you get your fresh start.

First meal out with friends today and had salmon salad and fries and didn't buy chocolate on the way back to the car to secretly eat which I didn't actually realise I almost always do 🙄

Stones123 · 17/07/2023 17:47

Killing it, @Tontostitis! that sounds like really positive effects for you already!

Cece92 · 17/07/2023 20:07

@Stones123 hello it has been tough I never realised how much sugar I eat lol. So far today I have baked avacado with egg in the air fryer and high I've done a few times and finally mastered today. Then for lunch I done cucumber pepper and a warburtons brown thin toasted with some hummus. I've just had dinner which was a bag of Aldi steamed veg and skinny sausages. I'm trying to reduce my carb in take too - not cut completely as my body will probably die from no sugar and carbs lol! My problem will be later when I want snacks. i might get some salted skinny popcorn for the evenings if i want it but i am obsessed with the big sugar free volvic waters so im going to try just sticking to that for tonight and see how i get on. it is so hard lol. you are all doing so so well. x

Stones123 · 17/07/2023 21:34

Ah well done @Cece92 - sounds like you’re doing fantastically. Hope you found a way to get through the evening comfortably.

I was really exhausted late afternoon so I started craving something sweet, but I decided to turn my attention to the tiredness and listen to it, which I found really helped me to know that what I really needed was water and a sleep so I went with that instead (while my daughter played around me!). I’m still really tired but crucially I woke up without the cravings, which shows me that it really worked to focus on the tiredness.

Working out what your triggers are (eg tiredness) can really help I think.

Cece92 · 17/07/2023 21:57

@Stones123 I agree with that. I was watching tv this afternoon when my daughter was at summer club for 2 hours. I started to crave sweet so I went for a dog walk and then came home and bleached my mugs 😂 before then walking up to get DD. Once she was home I had a list of things to get done with. I've made a plate of cheese slices, chicken and cucumber to munch on with my water. It's better than demolishing a bag of chocolates. My habit recently had been a bag of revels at night 😐😐😐😐

Tontostitis · 18/07/2023 06:46

I've been keeping a journal to track my food, emotions and habits and eating when I'm tired or blue is a big one for me. Recognising the real need and replacing sugary treats with water and walking is working for me too

Stones123 · 18/07/2023 08:56

Well done @Cece92 !

Good idea on the diary @Tontostitis - really good way to get some awareness into what’s really going on for you when you want to turn to sugary things. I love that!

Cece92 · 18/07/2023 10:36

@Tontostitis that's a really good idea actually. X

Cece92 · 19/07/2023 00:27

Today was a struggle lol hoping by end of the week I'm feeling better. I had my avacado and eggs for brekkie, then some left over quorn chicken fajita pasta for lunch it was literal a quarter of a bowl and was still peckish after so some hummus and veggies, then for dinner I had home made veggie lasagna and then some salted popcorn for a snack and my sugar free water. Bring on day 3. X

Stones123 · 19/07/2023 07:26

Well done @Cece92 .

Day 3 here we come!

Stones123 · 20/07/2023 11:35

Hope everyone’s doing ok today.

Day 4 for those who fancy giving today a try.

I am struggling with stress at the moment so it’s hard not to comfort eat but so far I’m managing to pay attention to what I need rather than doing that. What I need is: unwind, rest, clear my thoughts. I’m supposed to be working today but it was cancelled so I’m free to see to own needs. So: walk, sleep, meditation something like that.

How’s everyone else doing? @SugaryTwat - how’s your dog? @Billybagpuss - I know you’re like me - staying off other stuff too, not just the sugar. How’s all of it going today? @Cece92 did you start a diary?
@Tontostitis - how are getting on?

Tontostitis · 20/07/2023 14:45

Well done Cece92 x
I found it started to get slightly easier by day 4
I'm in Dorset for a few days and sticking to it but it's hard here! I've had a couple of cheese scones and a glass of wine. Bit worried about tonight's Chinese as I'm thinking that might gave a lot of hidden sugar? Day ten done yesterday

Cece92 · 20/07/2023 19:23

Hello guys todays been hard. I was super cranky last night. I'm a smoker and ran out of cigarettes but couldn't get out until later so when I managed to get to Tesco for cigs I was tempted to get chocolate but didn't. Today has been hard I do have a wee bit of a head ache. DD is currently eating magic stars next to me 🙄 hope everyone's doing okay. It's bloody hard lol x

Stones123 · 21/07/2023 21:38

Hey guys! How did day 5 (10) go?

Well done @Cece92 and @Tontostitis for hanging in there.

Are we going for another week?

@SugaryTwat are you in?

Stones123 · 21/07/2023 21:39

Ps I felt like sugar today because my triggers were all there - tired, low, body shouting at me - but I did my thing of seeing to my actual needs instead of numbing.

SugaryTwat · 22/07/2023 08:53

Hi everyone

I'm sorry I dropped out of the thread. The last week had been awful - vets nearly every day, emergency scans and tests, lots of vomit and diarrhoea. Still no clear answers on what's actually wrong with her

I've been trying to be low sugar but not always successful.

You're all doing great! Good work!

Be back soon, I hope

Hi @Stones123 I'm feeling much better today. Keeping busy with tidying and jobs. Back at work Monday after 3 weeks holiday and I'm dreading office days as we all just eat. Already thinking about what to take for my food. I promised DD cinema next weekend to see Barbie will just stick to nachos I think as a snack and take sugar free water with me as we usually buy loads of sweets before the cinema 😐😂

Tontostitis · 22/07/2023 15:40

Monday was my start day so definitely re-committing. I had a hot choc Thursday am so broke my streak. Other than that 15 days now and its definitely getting easier. The best tip was extra water that really helps, can't remember who said it but thank-you.

So sorry about ddog SugaryT keep doing what you can.

I've let sweeteners slip back in but from Mon they are out too.
