Fecking womb lining is too bloody thick! Help!

Pre-menopause (46)
Been continually bleeding for a month. Went to gp, had ultrasound today and endometrium is 2.8cm which is defo in the oh shit category I think. So I guess hysteroscopy next, do you think they'll do a 2 week referral? I work in the nhs, I didn't think I had cancer now I'm wondering. V unpleasant sensation tbh 😀
Bloody uterus. I've left it alone for years and now it does this.

Similar happening here. Got referred for hysteroscopy last June, it took 9 months to get one as appointments kept getting cancelled. Luckily all ok. I'd have been cross if it wasn't, given the wait. They offered me Mirena but don't want one, on progesterone pill instead seems to be helping.

knittingaddict · 24/05/2023 18:03

Horrible isn't it? 🙁

Coincidentally I'm having a hysteroscopy under a spinal tomorrow. Had an ultrasound and lining of uterus is thicker than they would expect for a woman of my age (late 50's and definitely post menopausal).

All started when I started bleeding 2 to 3 months ago.

Here's hoping that it's good news, but if it isn't I'm prepared. I think.

Wapping123 · 24/05/2023 18:13

Similar situation as you OP a few years ago, similar thickness, I was freaking out too. Ran through the standard protocol of scan, endometrial biopsy and diagnosed with simple hyperplasia without atypia, basically the nice kind of chunky uterus linings. Completely reversed with a mirena coil (although I genuinely thought I was dying when my entire endometrial lining fell out in one hideous lump, google endometrial cast if you’re not eating, I really wish they would warn you what might happen!!). So plenty of things it can be other than the really bad stuff, and even with the bad stuff, the bleeding usually alerts people before it’s got very far so it’s generally very treatable. Until you’ve gone through the protocol no one can tell you for sure that it’s not something nasty, but given you’ve been prompt in seeking out treatment, fingers crossed all will be well. Push for the 2 week referral though, it shouldn’t be challenged because that lining measurement is as you say in the oh shit category, no need to panic but definitely needs a look sooner rather than later.

fuckmyuteruslining · 24/05/2023 18:29

I can't believe how long that wait was @Plasmodesmata. That's awful.
Hope all goes well @knittingaddict
Thanks @Wapping123 that's what I'm hoping but can't lie, I'm a bit floored by it.

I was due to have a hysteroscopy a few months ago, because my womb lining was too thick, but mine was caused by my taking the incorrect dosage of progesterone. Anyway, I did lots of research on here, and many people either sailed through the procedure or found it hellish. You can request having it done with anaesthesia if you're worried although the waiting time might be longer....

knittingaddict · 24/05/2023 18:41

I was seen under the two week rule, but they couldn't do the procedure when I was seen. They tried, but due to my age and biology (high cervix) they decided to do it under a spinal. It's delayed things considerably, but there was no question over it being an urgent case.

fuckmyuteruslining · 24/05/2023 19:14

Poor you that sounds a bit grin

Oh and after reading things online I was really worried about hysteroscopy - just to say (and I know that's not the same for everyone) it actually wasn't as bad as I was expecting.

fuckmyuteruslining · 24/05/2023 19:37

Oh yes I've read the same. Will see how it goes.I don't suppose they can shove a mirena in there at the same time or is that not a possibility? From what I read that's probably my best case scenario?

OP posts:
supercatlady · 24/05/2023 19:44

I’ve been referred too. I had post menopausal bleeding and ultrasound showed slightly thickened uterus.

everything I’ve read says post menopausal bleeding is a 2ww but ultrasound appt took months and we are just over 2 weeks since gynae referral with no news.

cariadambyth · 24/05/2023 19:44

I’m in the same boat! I had my hysteroscopy on Monday. It was painful but I had gas and air which helped. I had a bit of bleeding on Monday evening but nothing since and have had very little of the cramping they warned of so try not to worry about that part at least. I’m not sure how long it takes to get the results but I’m guessing no news is good news…

fuckmyuteruslining · 24/05/2023 19:51

The waiting times are a disgrace and I say that as a nhs manager

Do you ladies know your thickness measurement? I feel rather perplexed as to how my periods can have been ok when basically I've got the equivalent of a winter double duvet in there.

OP posts:
cariadambyth · 24/05/2023 20:02

No, I don’t actually but now you’ve mentioned it, I might ring my gp and ask. It turns out I’ve also got a large fibroid. I do hope you get your referral quickly.

knittingaddict · 24/05/2023 20:05

I don't know and I didn't ask. No idea why I didn't, but I was expecting them to say that lining was too thin (common in post menopausal women and can cause bleeding) and was a bit unprepared. I will ask tomorrow.

I had a cyst of one ovary too, but blood tests came back negative and they weren't worried about that.

fuckmyuteruslining · 24/05/2023 20:21

She couldn't see any fibroids but she did say there could be a polyp buried in there. Tbh I could probably have the QE2 up there now and not notice.
I feel a bit stupid because I'm quite health literate and I had no idea this was a thing but I'm obese, I've been off contraception for 16 years and not had a pregnancy since then either so all in all it's no wonder the oestrogen has got a bit too at home.

Wapping123 · 24/05/2023 20:29

They can definitely do the biopsy and place the mirena at the same time, but I’m not sure if that’s standard procedure. My GP wanted to mess around with hormone tests for menopause so I used the other half’s health insurance, appreciate I was lucky to be able to do that. By that stage I was bleeding so heavily that I almost passed out every time I stood up and I just wanted some answers. Got the endometrial biopsy done and Mirena placed without any sedation etc, biopsy was uncomfortable but no worse than that. I appreciate it’s not the same for everyone though, if I hadn’t been able to tolerate it they would have done both under a short general anaesthetic. I’m obese too with PCOS, the unopposed oestrogen messes things up for sure.

This is what they did for me. Camera, biopsy and then mirena

fuckmyuteruslining · 24/05/2023 20:37

Helpful, thanks! Ok I will be asking for that. No need to go through intrusive bollocks more than once in short succession. I hate the way appointments 'hang over you'
I've no symptoms of PCOS other than this but who knows!

My never ending period started last July. Initially was 2 weeks bleeding, two weeks not but by August was pretty much continual heavy bleeding.

Struggle to get GP to not dismiss eventually get hysteroscopy appointment for December, then postponed until end of January. Plan was to put coil in at same time, however hysteroscopy showed suspicious extra thick lining so performed biopsy. Two week wait for results showed simple hyperplasia.

Gynae wanted to repeat biopsy and hysteroscopy plus put in coil. Waited until start of May for second attempt, this time coil inserted uterine lining appeared normal but still waiting for biopsy results. Apart from first week after coil insertion, bleeding has resumed, and if anything is getting as heavy as it was before.

Follow up appointment to check coil in right place in a months time. But not impressed , feel bloated and headachey since coil inserted. The constant bleeding is really depressing despite wearing super sized sanitary towels and period pants, still leaked through my trousers at work.

Arcadia · 24/05/2023 20:44

@stripeymonster I had coil in end of March and I've finally stopped bleeding. It does take a while! It got heavy, then gradually got lighter over time, now seems to have stopped.

fuckmyuteruslining · 24/05/2023 20:46

Oh @stripeymonster that's appalling! It makes me so angry you've been left bleeding so long! When I've been reading around the subject a lot of the time sources say 'consult your gp if the symptoms are troublesome' just for who exactly would constant bleeding NOT be troublesome pray tell? Why are women ever expected to tolerate this? It's humiliating, depressing and tedious and possibly dangerous to our health. I think it being normalised is so dangerous. I do hope things improve for you too. I was a bit reluctant to consider Mirena as worried about side effects but clearly I don't have that luxury now and if the medical consensus is I can avoid more drastic measures then I'll feel I've got off lightly.

I'm post menopausal, had the same issue. Was referred to gynae. Scan revealed thick lining and a fibroid. Had hysteroscopy under GA, removed the fibroid, took biopsies and fitted a mirena (This was 4 weeks ago). Still having sporadic blood loss although very light - apparently it can last up to 6 weeks.

Noshowlomo · 24/05/2023 20:52

Hi, found out I had the same a few weeks back- hyperplasia. I was also tested for cancer and had a biopsy and spent a week and half shitting myself back all came back fine, it’s just I have estrogen dominance so having a coil fitted in 2 weeks to hopefully sort it out.
joys of being a woman eh!

momentarybliss · 24/05/2023 21:03

Similar boat here too. Had ultrasound last week and waiting to hear back from gynae. She had mentioned previously that if I needed a hysteroscopy they could insert Mirena at same time. Was prescribed tranxemic acid to help blood loss in meantime as periods have been horrificly heavy. Good luck to everyone 🤗
