Pre-menopause (46)
Been continually bleeding for a month. Went to gp, had ultrasound today and endometrium is 2.8cm which is defo in the oh shit category I think. So I guess hysteroscopy next, do you think they'll do a 2 week referral? I work in the nhs, I didn't think I had cancer now I'm wondering. V unpleasant sensation tbh 😀
Bloody uterus. I've left it alone for years and now it does this.

@mumto3boysHE glad they've moved fast. Ido know it's horrible waiting to hear but if it is cancer then the bleeding is your friend in a weird way, it alerts you to what's wrong and they'll get cracking with treatment. Survival is extremely high. You will be ok. Have you seen the Eve charity website? V good info there.

@mumto3boysHE glad they got things moving quickly. Virtual hugs and in my prayers for a negative result for you. I'm waiting to hear too - 8mm lining, polyp removed and biopsy last Weds. xx

This is the charity I mentioned. They have a phone line and the info on there is very good. It's the only place I could find proper information about risks in premenopausal women. If anybody does have a diagnosis to grapple with I am sure you would find this site helpful.

Sending you a virtual hug @mumto3boysHE I hope you can have a treatment plan in place as quickly as you have been seen.

Any ladies out there had similar diagnose. Post meno 7 years been using ovestin cream for 2years and combined hrt for 6months. Went for a scan and thickened lining 5.6 mm was 2 mm last scan .

Hope it's ok to jump on here. I'm on HRT, have been for 5+ years, I'm 56. I've been having some really heavy bleeds, never been one for heavy periods before, hardly had any until menopause. PCOS, infertile, so the bleeds have come as a bit of a shock.
I booked an appointment with GP (4 week wait for a telephone appointment!) They said I needed a scan under the 2ww.
Well, the scan appt happened 6 days later, with a follow up call the next day saying they wanted to do a hysteroscopy. I've 8.3mm lining and a couple of polyps, 0.8cm and 2.4cm.
Hysteroscopy happened 2 days later! This was Sunday, just 2 days ago. Everything really quick, thank goodness. Local anesthetic plus gas and air. Polyps removed, everything "swilled out", mirena fitted. No pain afterwards.
But, doctor said she was worried about what she saw, she thinks pre-cancerous or cancerous. I'll have the results back within a few days 😔

I fucking hate my bits and pieces, never been any good to me. 😢
Just sat waiting to hear...

I've had my results. The nurse called me Thursday evening, so 10 days after the hysteroscopy.

"The histology has shown evidence of an endometrial polyp with evidence of focal endometrial hyperplasia without atypia. This can be regarded as a very localised area of mild pre-cancer.
There is less than 5% chance of progression to endometrial cancer over the next 20 years. This is usually managed in the following ways:

  1. The first and best recommendation (As per the RCOG) is the Mirena coil which will provide long-term endometrial protection with a continuous supply of Progesterone. This would encourage regression of the
endometrial pathology back to normal. You had a Mirena coil fitted at the time of your outpatient hysteroscopy."

I need to have another hysteroscopy in 6 months time and at 6-monthly intervals until they get 2 clear results and then I will be discharged.

I'm very relieved. It's been a tough couple of weeks, but thankfully, only a couple of weeks.

Spring78Mermaid · 30/07/2023 21:31

That’s a massive relief for you @mumto3boysHE i hope the mirena helps and you can move forward.

I have found the info on this thread very helpful.

I wonder if anyone has had a similar experience to me?

Post meno was taking HRT without progesterone for a year - scan showed thickened womb at 6mm. Subsequent hysteroscopy and biopsy was clear.

Have since taken oral prog alongside my oestrogen patch for the past year.

That was last year.

Recent bleeding (v little - just spotting) so GP ref via 2WW for a TVS which I had on Fri and showed that lining had grown to 11cm in past year. GP surgery called me same day to book appointment (this Wed) to discuss results.

I suspect I will need to have another hysteroscopy and biopsy.

Anyone know why GP needs to see me though? My mother died at 62 in a matter of weeks after being diagnosed with end stage ovarian cancer. Radiographer said my ovaries were ‘fine’ - but my Mums scan didn’t show anything on the ovaries.

And is anyone able to comment on the growth of womb lining from 6 to 11 mm in a year (whilst on oral prog)?

I understand that I am probably catastrophising but looking to kill time between procedures / results with other who are going through something similar right now. Or have been through this process and can share their wisdom.

I had transabdominal and tv scan on the 2 week pathway recently due to postmenopausal bleeding. Appointment with gynae consultant was immediately following and from there had to have hysteroscopy/biopsy. GP wasn't involved aside from making the referral.

Hopefully they're just being thorough @Gloriously Flowers

PortalooSunset · 08/10/2023 19:19

Meant to say, had been on combined HRT coming up to 3 years, lining was thickened on scan and showed possible polyp. When the hysteroscopy was done a couple of weeks later lining was apparently less thick?! Polyp was removed and thankfully benign.

Gloriously · 08/10/2023 21:44

Thanks @PortalooSunset - glad it was straightforward for you. I did that loop last year. Found it v stressful - especially the 6 week wait for biopsy results.

I wonder if GP is going to take me off HRT?
That would be tough.

FelineUK · 08/10/2023 21:55

Had my polyp removed and benign biopsy back in July.. a week ago I started bleeding again.. just lightly like bloody discharge but yesterday once, like a very light period. I mean, it's been a good 4 years since I had my last period - I assume I'm post menopausal? So why on earth would I be bleeding again if I had a polypectomy only a few months ago?

I'm so fed up of this that I'm not feeling very inclined to speak to my GP.. In three years I'm doing great... seems like I get a polyp removed every year!! I'm just in the middle of switching across to a new doctor so I know I will have to mention it to her but, for heaven's sake... what's going on with me?

Gloriously · 08/10/2023 22:29

@FelineUK - you know you have to go to see GP ASAP don’t you?

You are def post meno .... and any bleeding I assume puts you back through the 2WW process? Unless there is a window post biopsy and post polyectomy where bleeding is considered not serious.

This time round I had the most minor of a pink discharge - saw GP - she asked be back for an examination a few days later by which time of course there was no discharge but she had already pressed the button on the scan. GP exam was clear so when I rocked up to TVS appointment I felt I was wasting everyone’s time. So I was truly shocked when told it had grown from 6-11mm in the year despite adding in oral progesterone. Also surprised to have a call from GP surgery post scan within hours to discuss results (maybe they are just efficient at admin). So it’s the repeat of the hysteroscopy and biopsy that’s likely looming.

But I must be grateful that they are ‘on it’

FelineUK · 08/10/2023 23:40

Yes... I know I must tell my GP.. but this is the third year running I've had to have a polypectomy due to PMB. Last time was prescribed progestone pill though I've not started it yet due to side effects... I want a chat with my new GP first (still waiting to get new patient assessment appointment through).

I'm glad they're efficient your side and yes, better they're on it than not. Hope all goes smoothly and clear for you x
