Pre-menopause (46)
Been continually bleeding for a month. Went to gp, had ultrasound today and endometrium is 2.8cm which is defo in the oh shit category I think. So I guess hysteroscopy next, do you think they'll do a 2 week referral? I work in the nhs, I didn't think I had cancer now I'm wondering. V unpleasant sensation tbh 😀
Bloody uterus. I've left it alone for years and now it does this.

@fuckmyuteruslining thank you for posting those figures, that's put my mind at rest somewhat. I've just accepted a massive promotion at work, having a drink to celebrate tonight and read my NHS record, first thought is it might come crashing down!

I'm peri, have been since about 2017 I think... so hopefully it's nothing bad. I'm convinced I'm ok, but it was such a shock reading that earlier.

I'm glad they're not overly concerned about you, that must be a relief! I've been anaemia a few times, it does really tire you out. Red meat and Iron tablets worked wonders for me.

fuckmyuteruslining · 26/05/2023 23:11

Oh yes I know, it really shakes you. But even if it is cancer it's very successfully treated. Hysterectomy is all many women need but there are other treatments too. And that's a routine operation with an excellent recovery likely and no more bleeding! Enjoy your promotion.

I went through all this a couple of years ago. I had a hysteroscopy with anaesthesia the first time but womb was too bulky. So ended up admitted with general anaesthetic. Gave me a mirena at the same time. They ended up saying high risk of cancer so I had a hysterectomy. When they got the lab results following the op, it turned out I did have cancer. Thing is, by the time I knew, it had already removed. So thankfully it was all very straightforward. Bit of a shock mind you

OhFFS! · 26/05/2023 23:54

Should read "without" anaesthesia

HappyKatieA · 27/05/2023 00:06

Wow @OhFFS! That must have been a real shock! I hope you're doing well now.
I keep thinking I can't have cancer, no one in our family has had it... but then I suppose it has to start somewhere.
I'm going to try to make myself forget about it until I get the appointment, but I'm not sure I'll be able to.

fuckmyuteruslining · 27/05/2023 06:45

Genetics are helpful in terms of cancer risk so that's good, what did the letter actually say as the reason for referral?

HappyKatieA · 27/05/2023 07:13

From what I understand, my right ovary is fine. Left ovary has a couple of cysts - two different types, one is 26mm, so not large. Lining measures 10.2mm.

OhFFS! · 27/05/2023 07:41

@HappyKatieA Yes it did throw me a bit. Even though the op had got rid of the cancer, they put me in touch with MacMillan and I've 2 years of follow ups. When I was told there was a risk I could have cancer, I was told that a hysterectomy was the best approach although I could hold off and then have regular hysteroscopies. I am very overweight so they were trying to minimise the risk which was fair enough but I went ahead anyway. Bloody glad I did. To be fair, I was also 50 and hadn't been able to have kids so I was quite happy to say goodbye to all the useless gynae bits.

DustyLee123 · 27/05/2023 07:53

Can I join ?
I had a recent scan and told my lining is 12mm, awaiting hysteroscopy under the 2 week rule.
A work mate had one recently but it didn’t go well as her womb leans back, so she needs another under GA. My womb also leans back !
Not looking forward to this at all, I think I’d rather they just take it out. They would have done 30 years ago.

I'm on a 2WW as well ... app says it hasn't been reviewed yet and I should contact clinic (but I wouldn't know that if I hadn't looked at app). I'm still perplexed as to why I'm on a 2WW when I read other people's stories on here!

Any unusual bleeding has to be investigated and current guidelines state that a patient has to be referred on a 2ww. With the majority of cases, it's nothing serious. A 2ww is standard practice. I've been referred three times over the past 10 years, each time it was a 2ww.

thaneofglamour · 27/05/2023 10:31

Yeah, guess I'm in denial but one breakthrough bleed 2 1/2 months after starting patches seems overly cautious. Guess we'll see!

fuckmyuteruslining · 27/05/2023 13:03

You can look up your commissioners guidelines if it helps

These are mine www.valeofyorkccg.nhs.uk/seecmsfile/?id=5455&inline=1&inline=1 and gp has been totally by the book, I'm over 40 and obese so scan and urgent referral

And this is the pmb guidance northyorkshireccg.nhs.uk/wp-content/uploads/2021/11/post-menopausal-bleeding-pathway-1.pdf

This is for the use of gps and other doctors so it's quite blunt but it does explain the steps and why they do what they do and when

And welcome @DustyLee123 I know exactly what you mean. We don't need the ruddy organ anymore. What is it for except trouble!

And here's the charity I mentioned. eveappeal.org.uk/

I think it's a good website and they have an information service you can ring or email.

Thanks OP. In fact, that makes me even more sure they are treating me as post menopausal...

fuckmyuteruslining · 27/05/2023 14:14

How old are you?

OP posts:
thaneofglamour · 27/05/2023 14:34

Thought about lying there!!

fuckmyuteruslining · 27/05/2023 14:43

Yes I think you're right they are, age plus the hrt I suspect but tbh I'm not sure it makes a lot of odds as we're all going to end up with a probe in our nether regions 😄 in some cases more than once!
The outcome is the same for peri or post, if you've got atypical cells they will offer hysterectomy. And then it's hrt if ovaries removed too. The faster it moves for you hopefully the sooner somebody can opine re the other symptoms. The overwhelming thing I've taken from this week is that a thick lining just means a thick lining. It doesn't mean cancer or hysterectomy although that might be things we do come to need to consider. And if we do then that's just what needs to happen and then we get on with our lives. This is a stress, messy but still ok place to be 😀

DustyLee123 · 27/05/2023 14:46

Ablation seems to be offered for bleeding, it I think I’d prefer a hysterectomy as it can’t become cancerous if it’s not there,

Spring78Mermaid · 27/05/2023 15:04

Interesting read and I’m now thinking wtf why wasn’t I on a 2wk referral. Heavy bled last August…scan end Oct, hystocope with local anaesthetic April too complex inc 5cm fibroid with impacted mirena coil in the fibroid so they couldn’t remove it under local, so now finally have op booked Aug under general to remove multiple fibroids and the coil that’s still in there a year after it all started! I too am 50, overweight on HRT for 5yrs. What has helped is I’m now on an injection to stop my ovaries working in the hope the fibroid shrinks this has stopped my bleeding at last after near continuous for 9mths! lucky the biopsy in April was clear. Geez the standard of care certainly is variable around the country. Good luck to those going through this it has certainly got me down over the last few months.

Spring78Mermaid · 27/05/2023 15:05

I have also switched to gluten free eating which has really helped reduce that horrid bloating feeling so i really recommend trying it for a couple of weeks if anyone else is struggling. I read something about oestrogen imbalance impacting the gut.

HappiDaze · 27/05/2023 15:15

I had my coil removed a few weeks ago and am post menopausal and have been bleeding ever since with clots.

I think it's time to contact my GP.

I also started on HRT

fuckmyuteruslining · 27/05/2023 16:43

@Spring78Mermaid yes I agree, routes do seem to vary and that contributes to confusion and also anxiety. That's a very long time to wait when bleeding too. This whole thing has really made me think about how little priority is given to bleeding. It's an overwhelming symptom, really affects your life - activity, sex life and work - as well as making you anaemic and it's really not talked about too much. Especially not to say what's abnormal.

@HappiDaze I agree, time to join the wtf is going on with my (literally) bloody uterus club!
