Pre-menopause (46)
Been continually bleeding for a month. Went to gp, had ultrasound today and endometrium is 2.8cm which is defo in the oh shit category I think. So I guess hysteroscopy next, do you think they'll do a 2 week referral? I work in the nhs, I didn't think I had cancer now I'm wondering. V unpleasant sensation tbh 😀
Bloody uterus. I've left it alone for years and now it does this.

Not sure, 90 seconds might have been mentioned by my friend. I just said that there was no way I’d have that without a GA.

fuckmyuteruslining · 06/06/2023 08:22

I dunno, I'd do a lot to avoid GA. Well that's something to look forward to 😀

sorry to hear the bleeding is bad - I’ve been taking provera progesterone tablets daily to reduce the heavy bleeding as I was bleeding daily for months, it has helped. I have to stop taking them every 21d to simulate a cycle which feels pointless but I do and then get a delightful migraine.

If they can do it using a local it maybe an option? I had two local injections into cervix for the hystocope investigation and barely felt the first and the second I didn’t know he’d done it. It was less painful than a smear however they couldn’t do the full fibroid & coil removal as I was advised it was too big a fibroid &the tools needed were bigger and multiple entries in / out cervix would need a GA due to pain.

DustyLee123 · 06/06/2023 14:37

OK, so had my hysteroscopy and it was no where near as bad as I’d been told. The only ouch bit was the biopsy, and had she warned me she was doing it, that would have helped.
Do take an ST for after as I bled more than I thought. I would have been fine to drive myself home. I certainly wouldn’t worry if I needed another.
and the consultant told me that the best way to control bleeding is progesterone in the womb, so a coil.

fuckmyuteruslining · 06/06/2023 16:18

Oh that's great! Well done! I'm counting the days to next week tbh. This period is killing me. Can't stop bleeding. I'm two doses in to the TA so hope that stops soon but so tired and a bit weepy tbh. I don't understand why this has happened to me. I was fine two months ago.

Good to hear it wasn't as bad as you feared @DustyLee123. I'm not looking forward to mine but I don't want a GA if I can help it!
My GP tried to call me back but I missed the call (teaching). I called the receptionist back and said that I'm concerned due to no one mentioning cancer to me, but I saw it in Big bold letters on my NHS app notes.
She said she'd ask the GP to call me back but she hasn't.

Discoverysnakes · 06/06/2023 18:18

Hi @fuckmyuteruslining - hope all goes Ok on 13th.

Just on your hysterectomy without GA question - I actually asked about this recently as have a similar fear of GA ( slightly different situation - 46 and been bleeding very heavily, had a fibroid etc. Ended up haemorrhaging very badly in A and E at which point finally got help as fibroid tripled in size in 9 months so cancer concern).

Anyway options were hysterectomy or myomectomy - when I asked about doing it under spinal the consultant genuinely seemed to think I was mad and basically said no way! But to my mind I’d had two c sections under spinal only so I don’t really see the difference. Plus when I actually had the myomectomy the anaesthetist told me it was basically an epidural for the pain and the GA on top was just to ensure I wasn’t awake.

I suspect the don’t want a conscious patient to deal with whilst they rummage around or if something goes wrong.

Discoverysnakes · 06/06/2023 18:21

Should also add I have a tilted uterus plus fibroid had moved my cervix. I had a hysteroscopy just with local anaesthetic ( as they had to clamp me open).

Not going to lie it was extremely painful but I did cope and it is over relatively quickly. I actually took co-codomol before and was glad I did. Also did bleed quite a lot afterwards and for several days following it to.

fuckmyuteruslining · 06/06/2023 20:03

This bloody organ! What it puts us through. I feel totally worn out today and the bleeding is just not slowing down :( or maybe it is and I've just become hyper sensitised to it. I desperately wish I'd put a coin in a couple of years ago but there didn't seem any need. I just can't believe how you can go from fine to misery in weeks. I feel so betrayed by my body and I know some women put up with this for years. I have no idea how!

OP posts:
fuckmyuteruslining · 06/06/2023 20:04

That's interesting @Discoverysnakes about the GA. Apparent,y it's a v different op to c section but I do wonder how much is that's just easier been traditionally easier to have the woman knocked out.

OP posts:
fuckmyuteruslining · 07/06/2023 07:21

Obvs I meant coil not coin! Putting a coin in won't help, don't try this at home.

Hope you have a lighter bled day today @fuckmyuteruslining it really is debilitating when it’s heavy and crampy. Look after yourself. I’m incredibly lucky that I work remotely 95% of the time now or I doubt I’d still have a job. I wonder home many women our age get “managed” out when struggling with issues related to this and perimenopause in general. I’d quite happily retire like my dad managed to do in his early 50s! Alas it’s not gonna happen so we carry on.

fuckmyuteruslining · 07/06/2023 13:09

Thankfully the bleeding has now lessened. Maybe the TA , maybe just naturally eased, certainly the power of prayer (got some folks on that)!

I agree re impact on work. My colleagues are very supportive but I am defo not my best me and I hate that.

We have a women's network though (nhs) and one of our focus areas is menopause so I will be broadening that in to bleeding! Let's make a change Grin

UPDATE.

Had my results in the post today. The polyp and lining samples were all clear of cancer. So relieved.

The aftermath of the surgery - spinal anaesthesia, removal of large polyp and womb scrapping - was very uneventful. Bleeding immediately afterwards, nothing for a few days and then very light pink discharge for a few days. No pain at all afterwards and no bleeding or other symptoms now. The procedure was two weeks ago.

One thing to note was that after the vaginal ultrasound (which showed a thickened lining) and failed hysteroscopy I seem to have shed the lining they were worried about. I had a lot of bleeding in the weeks after seeing the consultant, which stopped a couple of weeks before the latest procedure. The surgeon said that there really wasn't anything much to remove for testing, apart from the polyp.

I hope it goes well for everyone else on here. 💐

knittingaddict · 08/06/2023 11:09

I had awful cramping too fuckmyuteruslining when the bleeding was at it's worst. Quite strange for me because I have never really suffered like that with my periods.

I know my husband would have got his Church group praying, but he knows better than to tell me that. 😀

knittingaddict · 08/06/2023 11:12

Sorry, meant to add something.

I had the option of spinal or general on the day. As did the other women around me. They decided on spinal because of my acid reflux.

Weird experience, but I much preferred it to a general, recovery wise.

fuckmyuteruslining · 08/06/2023 12:44

Fabulous news @knittingaddict delighted for you. Well done that uterus! That's made my day tbhSmile

Spring78Mermaid · 08/06/2023 13:07

Glad it went ok @knittingaddict and interesting about the spinal v GA option.

I’ve had 2 Spinals for c-sec both felt really nauseous after despite anti sickness meds, are you not in recovery longer so your legs can work? Even when I had GA for a day surgery for gallbladder I was kept in overnight as my BP was too low.. I’m hoping I don’t have to stay in this time as DH is on taxi duties to bring me home, luckily it’s scheduled in school hols at moment as our autistic DD normally needs collecting from school.

knittingaddict · 08/06/2023 16:08

Don't get me wrong, the spinal had its moments.

As soon as I got to the recovery room I felt sick and light headed. Turned out my blood pressure was 77/20. Lots of fussing from the nurses - lowering head end, raising head end - and it eventually went up again. Took ages though and the staff thought the blood pressure monitor was broken.

Despite that I still preferred being awake. I even got to see the polyp, face to face. 😁

It also meant the surgeon could tell me that it looked non cancerous, which was reassuring.

This thread has been so helpful to me and I hope it does the same for others.

knittingaddict · 08/06/2023 16:19

I'm trying to remember the timescales. I think I went to surgery about 11.30am and went home about 5pm.

I was in recovery a while because of the low blood pressure. Once that stabilised I was wheeled back on the trolley to the ward I had started on. By then some feeling was coming back, mostly from the waist down, with some weirdness. I thought the last to come back was the soles of my feet, but when I got up I realised my bum was numb. Very odd sensation and impossible to wee. 😂

Once I could walk and wee properly I was allowed home.

Hope that wasn't too boring or tmi.

fuckmyuteruslining · 08/06/2023 18:19

Thanks for the details, sure that will be very helpful for other ladies.
I'm hoping we can manage with outpatient next week. Goodness knows what's going t9 be going on in there.....

Spring78Mermaid · 08/06/2023 18:59

Thanks @knittingaddict thats helpful, my op is scheduled for after lunchtime so I’m thinking I could be a late eve discharge if I have BP issues again.

fuckmyuteruslining · 12/06/2023 14:34

Hope it goes ok/has gone ok @HappyKatieA

Thank you @fuckmyuteruslining, I literally just came on to update. I'm just back. I managed the pain, I took pain killers before I went. He said there's no polyps, the lining looks ok, a bit thick, but took a biopsy anyway.
I asked him to pop a mirena in, he struggled as he said my womb is heart shaped. I questioned this as I've had them previously, he said wombs can change shape - who knew?! Anyway, I have one in now.
Feeling a little odd, so having a lie down.

I recommend getting someone to drive you if you can, I was going to drive myself but my sister and friends thought I shouldn't. My husband took me, I'm glad, wasn't really feeling up to driving home.

fuckmyuteruslining · 12/06/2023 17:23

Good work you! Yes dh is taking me. I didn't fancy cycling there and parking is awful.
It doesn't surprise me your uterus was awkward, I've decided it is the most ridiculous organ! Literally anything that can go wrong does! And we haven't even got in to prolapse territory yet.
