For anyone who wants a boost to their general health. The suggested goals are:

EAT 10 PORTIONS OF FRUIT AND VEGETABLES EVERY DAY - if you don't usually eat much fruit and veg I would build up gradually or you could upset your digestion.

DO (AT LEAST) 10 MINUTES OF EXERCISE EVERY DAY - can be yoga, stretching or something more energetic. The plan is that the idea of doing 10 minutes is not too daunting, and having started you may well find you want to do more.

There are no restrictions on what you eat so long as you get your 10 fruit and veg as well. The focus is not on weight loss but on improving our energy levels and hopefully our general mood and well-being. Sign up below and post here to tell us how you're getting on and how you are feeling.

Basic guidance on what constitutes a portion of fruit and veg here and you can download more detailed information by following the link at the very bottom of the page

I like Bloc party.

I have had vegatable moussaka. It was disappointingly heavy on the ppoatato but then I didn't cook it so I won't moan too much.

ZippiBabes · 13/02/2008 19:33

don't get down overrated i have been on mn all day

and done nothing

except a brief interlude of spending money

and i have only been doing stuff since i split with dp ..i spent the previous 8 years doing practically nothing

im just making up for it

and i will be broke again soon

OverRated · 13/02/2008 19:38

Ooo, moussaka. Perhaps that's what I'll make with the aubergine that is lurking in the fridge.

I tend to like being busy but don't have the energy to do much. And all my friends are married with young kids so on evenings and weekends they are busy doing family things which leaves me on my own. And I don't mind it most of the time but with having no money, I feel like I waste days. Anyway, will do something about it soon. Just not sure what. Am just going through a bad patch and will sort myself out soon

ZippiBabes · 13/02/2008 19:47

you can email me you know

OverRated · 13/02/2008 19:49

Thanks Zippi. I was just thinking about CATing you but I think I might just dump everything on you and I know you have your own stuff to deal with.

ZippiBabes · 13/02/2008 19:52

rubbish...mutual support

and you can dump on me

i can't help but i can listen

you just have to put up with getting my witterings back

it's nice to know there are other people out there

FrannyandZooey · 13/02/2008 20:20

god the spinach and parsnip concoction sounds fab FK
that is what I should be eating instead of all this cheese I have obviously got some heavy calcium needs right now, coupled with laziness as far as cooking goes, is a bad combination. No wonder TooT is never here, she has probably been driven away by my awful dairy consumption

OR sorry you are feeling out on a limb atm. I find MN helps me sometimes when feeling isolated and sometimes exacerbates it.
Sweet potatoes certainly count in my book although there was a big schism about them once. The question is: are they yams, or not? Anyway they are very good things so please count them. I don't even know what soy nuts are [boggled]

I am meeting Boco and MrsC for lunch tomorrow. I am feeling rather awkward and geeky about it

OverRated · 13/02/2008 20:20

Done, zippi Thanks

Quinoa question: can I sprout/ grow it?

wheelybug · 13/02/2008 20:28

Oh go in the sea Zippi - you'll always talk about it. Some friends and I went in the med (no where near as warm as it is in the summer) on new years day 2000. We have a photo of a load of us running into the sea in swimming cossies and DH standing in the background in thick winter coat, fleece hat etc. It was soooooo freezing but quite amusing. The German scuba divers thought we were insane

F&V today - handful of dried wonderberries, apple, butternut squash and sweet potato soup. Thats it so far but about to have tuna nicoise salad so that will include leaves, green beans and black olives. I will accompany this with a glass of pomegranate juice and then have some fruit after.....

OverRated · 13/02/2008 20:56

Yes, I can never decide if MN is good or bad for me when I am feeling like this.

I think yams are different. Or did I make that up? No, actually they are yams... Confused

Where are you all going for lunch? I shall think of you when I'm stuck at toddler group!

What are wonderberries?

ZippiBabes · 13/02/2008 20:59

i thought yams were more white

is it a cat you sent me?

OverRated · 13/02/2008 21:14

Yes a CAT (with a completely pointless message)

Wiki says yams are not sweet potatoes. The yams in the store yesterday were quite white. I think zippi is right.

OverRated · 13/02/2008 21:16

Oh but in the US, sweet potatoes are sometimes called Yams. But technically they are not the same thing.

FrayedKnot · 13/02/2008 21:18

Diss is a wonderful place, Franny. Enjoy the Hip Hop.

I roasted a whole bag of parsnips yesterday, which I ate most of. Some I even ate cold. God they were delicious.

Is there something super in parsnips?

FrannyandZooey · 13/02/2008 21:20

"Diss is a wonderful place, Franny"

are you sure?

I ruddy love parsnips.

OverRated · 13/02/2008 21:22

Parsnips are delicious. I think we'll have some with the sweet potatoes.

FrayedKnot · 13/02/2008 21:22

If the charity ambushers are there, give them my love

ZippiBabes · 13/02/2008 21:24

sounds nice..funny how parsnips and sweet potatoes only taste nice when roasted so that all the sugar caramelises

they are rubbish boiled

i have had lots of fruit and cauliflour with prawns in yogurt and curry paste and a yellow pepper and mushrooms

Boco · 13/02/2008 21:29

Diss is perfectly nice Franny. Don't diss it till you've tried it. Ha, see what I did?

It is quite nice though, really. The first bit you see, isn't very nice, just a big ugly road, but then the mere and the little streets and shops are lovely. Did you know Diss is the second town in the country to get Cittislow status? - slow food movement - all about being organic and local and banning fast food places, and about slower pace and better living -it's all good.

Boco · 13/02/2008 21:31

look, this is where we're meeting tomorrow Franny In the picture something seems to be on fire. I'm sure tomorrow nothing will be on fire.

OverRated · 13/02/2008 21:47

DO you live in Diss, Boco?

Boco · 13/02/2008 21:48

Well, no. But just over the boarder. About 5 miles away.

OverRated · 13/02/2008 21:56

Oh ok - I thought you must be fairly local. It sounds lovely

Boco · 13/02/2008 21:59

Hip hop capital of East Angular OR. That's why it's called Diss. And I live in Eye. Which means 'yes' in hip hop.

OverRated · 13/02/2008 22:04

Who'd have thought it, hip-hop in East Angular . I only know the North Norfolk area. I did go to Southwold once too.
