For anyone who wants a boost to their general health. The suggested goals are:

EAT 10 PORTIONS OF FRUIT AND VEGETABLES EVERY DAY - if you don't usually eat much fruit and veg I would build up gradually or you could upset your digestion.

DO (AT LEAST) 10 MINUTES OF EXERCISE EVERY DAY - can be yoga, stretching or something more energetic. The plan is that the idea of doing 10 minutes is not too daunting, and having started you may well find you want to do more.

There are no restrictions on what you eat so long as you get your 10 fruit and veg as well. The focus is not on weight loss but on improving our energy levels and hopefully our general mood and well-being. Sign up below and post here to tell us how you're getting on and how you are feeling.

Basic guidance on what constitutes a portion of fruit and veg here and you can download more detailed information by following the link at the very bottom of the page

MrsC good lord

this is a bit of a comedown from that, but I walked lots today and feel ruddy knackered. My legs are hurting already. Will I ever be fit again - dubious

lionheart · 12/02/2008 20:09

lionheart · 12/02/2008 20:10

You have plenty of your own dorphins, I am sure, fmv.

FrannyandZooey · 12/02/2008 20:12

well something is making me calm, that is for sure
I am like a slowed down version of myself

lionheart · 12/02/2008 20:15

That's the blooming thing, isn't it?

FrannyandZooey · 12/02/2008 20:16

no that is the fat docile heifer thing

lionheart · 12/02/2008 20:25

That comes later:

Morning Song

Love set you going like a fat gold watch.
The midwife slapped your footsoles, and your bald cry
Took its place among the elements.

Our voices echo, magnifying your arrival. New statue.
In a drafty museum, your nakedness
Shadows our safety. We stand round blankly as walls.

I'm no more your mother
Than the cloud that distills a mirror to reflect its own slow
Effacement at the wind's hand.

All night your moth-breath
Flickers among the flat pink roses. I wake to listen:
A far sea moves in my ear.

One cry, and I stumble from bed, cow-heavy and floral
In my Victorian nightgown.
Your mouth opens clean as a cat's. The window square

Whitens and swallows its dull stars. And now you try
Your handful of notes;
The clear vowels rise like balloons.

Boco · 12/02/2008 20:30

I love that poem, when dd was born i remembered it and really wanted to read it again but couldn't find it anywhere. I like Sylvia Plath.

FrannyandZooey · 12/02/2008 20:30

ooooooooooooooh

MrsCarrot · 12/02/2008 20:31

Oh, I love that poem, I've thought of it every time I've had a baby.

FrannyandZooey · 12/02/2008 20:32

this is my favourite:

Clownlike, happiest on your hands,
Feet to the stars, and moon-skulled,
Gilled like a fish. A common-sense
Thumbs-down on the dodo's mode.
Wrapped up in yourself like a spool,
Trawling your dark, as owls do.
Mute as a turnip from the Fourth
Of July to All Fools' Day,
O high-riser, my little loaf.

Vague as fog and looked for like mail.
Farther off than Australia.
Bent-backed Atlas, our traveled prawn.
Snug as a bud and at home
Like a sprat in a pickle jug.
A creel of eels, all ripples.
Jumpy as a Mexican bean.
Right, like a well-done sum.
A clean slate, with your own face on.

I am so crap at understanding poetry that i didn't actually realise it was about a foetus until I was pg with ds

lionheart · 12/02/2008 20:32

Me too.

ZippiBabes · 12/02/2008 21:07

TooTicky · 12/02/2008 22:28

Today I made a chocolate and banana cake with chocolate fudge icing. Dd1 nd ds1 are being philistinic about it. Ah well, all the more for me and ds2 and possibly dd2.
I also made bakled potato racing cars with carrot wheels and carved carrot drivers. It has been one of those days.

ZippiBabes · 12/02/2008 22:32

toot

you are too much fun

if i went to bristol

where would i go

TooTicky · 12/02/2008 22:42

Fun? Me? I don't think I smile enough.

Bristol. Right. The Gloucester Road area (Bishopston particularly, selected bits of Montpelier and Horfield) has a good atmosphere and nice interesting shops.
Southville also similar now - didn't used to be.
Cotham good, also near Gloucs Rd.
Definitely avoid Knowle West/Southmead/Hartcliffe.
It's all quite cityish though -I think I would hate all of Bristol now, having lived rurally.

TooTicky · 12/02/2008 22:45

I really like Somerset. The Wells/Glastonbury bit has good Bristol bus route.
West Somerset lovely too, and there's a steam railway.

I wonder where I'd go, given free choice.... there is so much I'd like to see.

OverRated · 13/02/2008 02:01

Goodness, just reading about all this exercise is making me tired!

[impressed emoticon] for Toot's imaginative cooking today. The cake sounds delicious. I want cake

I love Somerset.

I fell over today whilst carrying Ds in the backpack thingy He didn't even notice but, having explained to him why I suddenly was walking really slowly, he spent the rest of the morning telling everyone, "Mummy fell in snow and I on her back. You ok, mummy? YOU OK?" so now everyone knows I fell. Again.

FrannyandZooey · 13/02/2008 08:06

Oh OR I am glad you were both ok

morning all
banana, apple, pear, raisins

I will gloss over last night's dinner but it contained large quantities of potato. And cheese. And mayonnaise
