Time for a new thread already!

Welcome to the thread, the purpose of this is to give anyone who is having any trouble with their drinking, a safe place to come and post about it honestly and without judgement.

There are many of us that use the thread for support and encouragement: some in recovery, others just needing a place to share about their worries. It's been going on in one form of another for a while now and has helped many people.

Thank you to all of those who have kept it going thus far, and welcome to anyone who has decided the time has come to ask for help.

Everybody's welcome, no matter what stage your drinking is at.

Jump right in, the water's fine

I've just been reading through the thread properly now am home, so interesting. And am definitely going to buy a B-vit supplement tomorrow (and some pomegranate, Expat )

I think I feel generally OK at the idea of no drinking at home mostly, but in a panic if I think of ever going out. I just would not have a clue who I "am" socially without alcohol. and can't imagine going out and not drinking...

dinny · 28/03/2008 01:29

yes, Kokeshi, it's only now I am slowly realising it is a way of ignoring everything your body is telling you....

God, why is it so appealing? (alcohol)?

dinny · 28/03/2008 01:35

in case you come back, Kokeshi, just to say goodnight to you, and everyone here, and thank you for your warm, wise words.

ps. will be back to report tomorrow, tonight is easy as been working so drinking not an issue, but tomorrow will be more challenging. am thinking of a bath and then in bed to watch a film (as dh out)

thanks and goodnight to everyone xxxxx

kokeshi · 28/03/2008 01:46

Night dinny - and it's good to have you on the thread too. Every one of our posters contributes to make the thread as welcoming as it is, so we're pleased to have you.

Problem drinking is often a lonely and isolating experience and finding out you are not the only one opens up so many more possibilities.

Remember to be kind to yourself too

jellibabe · 28/03/2008 07:10

Morning All

Kokeshi question was aimed at unhappy although at nosey.

I have a busy weekend planned. Am helping my sister on Sat. If I can get through Sat night drinking on a Sun is not so appealing.

When I am not drinking I feel so much better and in control of my life. The desire for these happier feelings is starting to fight the desire for alcohol.

Anyway away to take burnt offerings to work.

dinny · 28/03/2008 08:45

morning Jellibabe and everyone else too

sounds like you're feeling positive. I've woken up feeling positive (crappy cold though!) - I printed off the list Kokeshi posted about little things to do today, and looked at it this morning, sort of focused me.

I was looking at the list of symptoms being vit B deficient causes posted below and so many apply to me. my dad's heart prob is also to do with tachycardia (v fast heart rate), wonder if it could be maybe related in his case... hmmmm.

exciting day for me as I think my sister is in labour! will keep you posted!

unhappy · 28/03/2008 09:13

morning everyone - sorry for my drunken self pitying posts last night - feel dog rough today on my second red bull - thank you for your kind words last night its so funny looking at this thread this morning and not even remembering typing my post .

Hoping today will be a better day but still feeling very raw - time of course is the best healer of all and it will get easier as we all adjust to the situation.

Will read what you are all up to later on when my head stops thumping !!!

Thank you x

teasle · 28/03/2008 09:15

HI unhappy.

What are your plans then?

hi everyone else

unhappy · 28/03/2008 12:33

Teasle - not really got any plans just working on the getting through each day as it comes theory - so not going to drink this weekend though do know it makes things worse - thanks for asking

dinny · 28/03/2008 21:02

how are you all doing this evening?

I've a stinking cold and am feeling a bit delicate - off to bed soon to watch a film.

my sister had her baby this pm and after the initial jubilation, my first thought was "must buy bubbly for tonight"!!!

but, had pomengranate (thanks, Expat) and fizzy water and it actually hit the spot.

can't decide if I feel any different - hard to tell with my cold.

CocoDeBearisCocoDeBear · 28/03/2008 22:43

Hi Dinny , I probably drink a similar amount to you, possibly a little bit more. I don't really do the days off.

I had a good effort in January, and had 8 booze-free days (yes, counted them!), but I tend to see a booze-free day or days as an excuse to over-indulge another night as a reward for being so saintly . So instead of having a bottle of wine over two nights I tonk it all down at once instead.

PurpleOne · 29/03/2008 02:28

Hey guys!

Been booze free for a week! YAY!

Feeling good in some ways, but still feeling down about others.

My daughter sang in the school choir at the Albert Hall last night...still recovering.

Nooooooooo! Got home too late so I couldn't buy anything anyways.....

Am doing okay really. Not started on Antabuse either. My eldest dd has got counselling.

Still tired from a late night last night, and not drink induced either. Picked up dd2 at midnight, and fell into bed!

Not got much to offer here but just want to say hello.... to all

FAQ · 29/03/2008 02:33

can I join you???????

search for the last 2 days and specifically posss by "FAQ" wiht the word "Brandy" in the message.........

Drinking too much, promised my (RL) BF today that I'd stop...........but I've been drinking again tonight, 1/2 a (35cl) bottle of brandy and half a 50cl bottle of Whiskey Liquer......

I know I've got to stop, but I can't

gerbrajess · 29/03/2008 03:35

Hi FAQ - are you there - are you okay?
As you can tell, it's been a bit of a late night. Will wait around for a bit and see if you fancy a chat, after that...i'm off to beeeeeeeeeed. Had a lovely evening but in normal fashoin I don't know when to stop...
Gerbrax

gerbrajess · 29/03/2008 03:37

...sh*t, just seen the time!!! DP went to bed about 1/2 hour ago and i'm dawdling, can't believe what time it is though!!!

FAQ · 29/03/2008 03:37

yes I'm here........you don't need to stay up

(sorry haven't read the rest of the thread AT ALL) just read the title and figured this is where I should be...........

gerbrajess · 29/03/2008 03:40

No worries, I've just discovered 'twiglet sandwiches' - which are amazing!!! If you're a twiglet lover, I'll go into more detail, otherwise, best not...!
How are you...I've had a lot to drink as well...I think that's probably a given looking at the time! Are you upset about saying something to BF and not sticking with it? It happens to me a lot...don't beat yourself up about it...
Feel free to chat if you want...
gerbrax

FAQ · 29/03/2008 03:45

yes............she practically "drip-fed" my coffee all day (I was sat on the sofa in a hungerover/depressed daze) and I told her I wouldn't dirnk tonight..........but I have.......

fee; really bad as she spent the whole day tidying and cleaning MY house..............

gerbrajess · 29/03/2008 03:54

FAQ, I'm not going to pretend I can help here...have had bottle of wine +++ tonight and am not a role model in the slightest! BUT...I do know that if you get onto this thread tomorrow, you'll so much good advice and support from people who can really help. Honestly, have a read tomorrow and you'll see you're not alone at all.
Try not to worry about your BF. From the sounds of it, she sounds like a proper friend and will want to be there for you whatever...
Do you drink every day? This is my problem. My DP thinks I only drink at weekends, when in reality I'm drinking every week night...now that's a bad situation!
What are you up to apart from Mn'ing - have tv on in the background, god it gets bad in the middle of the night doesn't it!
gerbrax

FAQ · 29/03/2008 03:58

I'm just about to give DS3 some milk........it's warming right now.....

Other than that MN'ing, Facebooking.......

I didn't used to drink everyday.

I used to drink occasionaly...........but never know when to stop, but for the last week I've drunk WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY tooo much. (I'm talking minimum 20cl/35cl bottle of Brandy a night........sometimes 2 a day (ie 1 during the day, one in the vening).........)

I have 3 gorgesou DS's........and I'm so ashamged I'm doing this to them

gerbrajess · 29/03/2008 04:02

I'm the same, never used to drink at home...now up m'netting at 4am with 'get her style' on in the background!!
Because I've drunk every night for so long, it's been suggested that I try one night off the booze and see how I go...and this day is Monday I've decided...
Why not try too? It's a great way to approach it because '1 day' doesn't sound so scary...what do you reckon?

FAQ · 29/03/2008 04:22

I don't know if I can do that........today (apart from a couple of sip between 7am and 9.15...) was suppose to be my "alcohol free" day..........but I've drunk so much I feel awful for my friend that came over today to help me out.........

I suppose I could try but I really don't know if I can................

gerbrajess · 29/03/2008 04:22

FAQ I'm off to bed now...don't be sad tonight, when you can, get to bed and get some sleep. Check back on the thread tomorrow and I promise you'll get loads of practical help...
If you're an 'every night' drinker, think about taking Monday night off. I'll be doing it and we might be able to help each other...
night night
gerbraxx

FAQ · 29/03/2008 04:27

sleep well.........

I'm out most of tomorrow.......so won't be on the thread then.............

I am an everynight drinker..........and during the day too , I'll think about taking Monday off............it'll be a start I suppose.......

gottostop · 29/03/2008 04:38

Not sure if anyone still up. I've been reading through some of these messages. I'm feeling SO crap. Was sick about half an hour ago, am trying to get some water down me.
