For anyone who wants a boost to their general health. The suggested goals are:

EAT 10 PORTIONS OF FRUIT AND VEGETABLES EVERY DAY - if you don't usually eat much fruit and veg I would build up gradually or you could upset your digestion.

DO (AT LEAST) 10 MINUTES OF EXERCISE EVERY DAY - can be yoga, stretching or something more energetic. The plan is that the idea of doing 10 minutes is not too daunting, and having started you may well find you want to do more.

There are no restrictions on what you eat so long as you get your 10 fruit and veg as well. The focus is not on weight loss but on improving our energy levels and hopefully our general mood and well-being. Sign up below and post here to tell us how you're getting on and how you are feeling.

Basic guidance on what constitutes a portion of fruit and veg here and you can download more detailed information by following the link at the very bottom of the page

oh yup I get what you mean
I was thinking about it this afternoon wrt depression and alcohol - one gp told me it is v common for depressives to self-medicate - in my case I ended up alcoholic but when I gave up the depression was gone too! the alcohol had been causing it / perpetuating it after the chemical depression has passed
I was thinking about possible similarities - I know bi-polar is not like depression though

did you get to bed zippi? are you tired or is it all the house stuff?

OP posts:
ZippiBabes · 03/02/2008 21:51

i am extremely tired i have been doing parcels this evening and playing scrabulous and thinking about that thread and stuff

and this thing i have to write

i get drawn into those discussions and end up looking stuff up and my head starts going round..i am feeling anxious probably because i have been drinking coffee all day ..

ZippiBabes · 03/02/2008 21:58

to tell the truth i am feeling on a ticking timer ....i am fearful that i have been on a very long period of being quite hyper and it might suddenly veer off..i don't know whether up or down and i can't decide which i would find less scary

but i'm hoping nothing will happen at all cos i felt like that a couple of months ago and it stabilised again just as i got really worried

our friends froze loads of berry fruit this summer and we ate some on Christmas day in a pudding - so nice and sunshiney to taste! I think I must try it this year

wheelybug · 03/02/2008 22:08

Thanks for more welcomes - you're all smashing....

On the blueberry front - at the moment they're 2 punnets for £3 in .. wait for it ... Waitrose at the moment and I believe (according to an article I was reading) they are quite environmentally friendly this time of year as they get shipped here rather than flown (only at this time of year though - not sure why ? They take longer to ripen or something ???). Which is good because DD adores blueberries and always has done - she's an expensive gal to keep.

BBBee - Hope you're feeling better. LOL at 'Avoidance truth' - on Thurs it was blowing a gale and bucketing and I was coming up with all sorts of avoidance truths - 'I couldn't get the podcast to work' 'my little toe was hurting' etc etc. Then I remembered my aged paretns were out having their first dry ski lesson in the same weather so forced myself out. Then felt smug.

FrannyandZooey · 03/02/2008 22:08

yes she did
we will not ask why

how is your head btw MrsC?

OP posts:
FrannyandZooey · 03/02/2008 22:09

we don't have a waitrose
I may have to chuck you out for mentioning it Wheelybug

wheelybug · 03/02/2008 22:10

Ahem... did I say waitrose... obviously I meant our local fairtrade organic greengrocer (oh that there were such a thing)...

MissCreant · 03/02/2008 22:11
