Dedicated Swallower of Passion (Fruit) - 10 / 10 thread

For anyone who wants a boost to their general health. The suggested goals are:

EAT 10 PORTIONS OF FRUIT AND VEGETABLES EVERY DAY - if you don't usually eat much fruit and veg I would build up gradually or you could upset your digestion.

DO (AT LEAST) 10 MINUTES OF EXERCISE EVERY DAY - can be yoga, stretching or something more energetic. The plan is that the idea of doing 10 minutes is not too daunting, and having started you may well find you want to do more.

There are no restrictions on what you eat so long as you get your 10 fruit and veg as well. The focus is not on weight loss but on improving our energy levels and hopefully our general mood and well-being. Sign up below and post here to tell us how you're getting on and how you are feeling.

Basic guidance on what constitutes a portion of fruit and veg here and you can download more detailed information by following the link at the very bottom of the page

i can only post sensibly on one thread at a time and the pete docherty one is where all my effort has gone so this one is copping the nonsense

OverRated · 03/02/2008 20:09

Oh dear zippi- it sounds so stressful. I have avoided the Pete Docherty thread for various reasons but might go and have a peek now. No doubt it will irritate/ upset me beyond belief.

Tigerfeet - your job sounds interesting. You had a very 10/10 day.

Welcome Wheelybug

fullmoonfiend · 03/02/2008 20:09

hello and welcome, lovely wheelybug!, i remember you as being a person with especially fine taste (you sent me some very thoughtful things when I took part in a swap! )

today I have had (too) many blueberries, (bacon) mushrooms and tomatoes, and roast chicken with kale, mange touts, sweet potatoes, carrots, brocolli green beans and red cabbage.

FrayedKnot · 03/02/2008 20:10

Wheely, I am also a savoury can;t be bothered with fruit person, but it seems to help to eat fruit in the morning, maybe mid-morning...you soon get into the habit of it. Things like punnets of frozen blueberries in the freezer are handy to have for emergencies when you have run out of fresh.

ZippiBabes · 03/02/2008 20:11

my bread is collapsing its going to be crap too

ZippiBabes · 03/02/2008 20:12

i chucked too many random things in it like ground almonds and milk and brown sugar and chopped nuts

wheelybug · 03/02/2008 20:17

Thanks for the lovely welcome everyone ! Hello FMF - Yes I remember the swaps ... glad you remember yours with so positively !

Daft question alert - Frayednot - do frozen blueberries defrost ok ? I have them in my freezer for cooking (along with frozen raspberries I picked myself) but never thought to defrost them just to eat IYSWIM.

OverRated · 03/02/2008 20:20

You can defrost blueberries or just cook with them frozen. They seem to stain more if you defrost them so I avoid it as much as possible.

Zippi, the bread sounds delicious.

TigerFeet · 03/02/2008 20:24

I'm the other way, find fruit easy but have to work at the veg. DH works for a veg grower so we get loads of freebies, but I still gorge on melon.

OR my job is fairly dull but sometimes in an interesting environment... I work for a food manufacturer - we do a lot of nice stuff for supermarkets and I have to attend panels and give opinions, which means I am being paid to eat [bloat]. My actual job is to make sure that all the printed packaging has all the correct info on.

at own bread, crap or otherwise.

lionheart · 03/02/2008 20:26

Hello Wheelybug.

FMV do not fear, I have noted down the quizz incident in my book of shame. You are not going to be the farty great Uncle.

Franny, and don't take this the wrong way, but Greeny always gets the blame for the filth factor and sometimes others are much more in the mire than she.

FrayedKnot · 03/02/2008 20:33

Yes the blueberries defrost fine. Funny about them staining more though because when I eat them at work I get comments on my purple goth lips, so I think they must.

I also cheat and buy pre-prepared fruit from the sandwich van that calls at my work. It's usually melon, kiwi, grapes, and in summer, strawbs, and then I bung in some blueberries as well.

pinkspottywellies · 03/02/2008 20:48

Hi wheelybug! There's a few of us on here and the running thread now! Speaking of which how's it going BBB?

I've had about 7 portions today which is much better than I've been doing lately. No bacon sandwiches, and a half hour run.

I've just discovered that on Saturday (my third run of the week) I should be running for 20 minutes without stopping. That's not even funny!!!!

Where's TooT?

Like thread title.

Back in a min. Mum on phone!

OverRated · 03/02/2008 20:56

20 minutes of running? How?

How convenient having a sandwich van that brings fruit.

How much is a punnet of blueberries in the UK?

OverRated · 03/02/2008 21:00

Gosh, what a lot of Hows in my last post

FrannyandZooey · 03/02/2008 21:08

Overrated, he got his top wet and had a meltdown when required to change into the spare one in his bag. This was a short sleeved one (possibly other parents of 4 year olds will see the inherent wrongness of such a proposition now, or possibly ds is just a loon PITA). The thing was I knew it was a short sleeved one and I knew he would go bananas if ever asked to change into it. Yet I left it in his nursery bag. I don't know why. Anyway. He did a lot of shouting I think and dp (who was luckily still there) cut his losses and took him home. Ofsted looking on grimly smiling the whole time

erm I think Shrove tuesday is probably on, er Tuesday. Not sure if i missed something there....

and blueberries are £3 for a weeny weeny weeny little punnet. about as many as you could hold in your cupped hands.

WHEELYBUG please make yourself at home and ignore the filthers. Sounds like you are eating very healthily and PSW and MrsC will be able to encourage you on the running. It's much better to eat veg than fruit, so don't worry about changing anything. Perhaps make sure you have one very vit C rich thing per day eg citrus.

Zippi sorry to hear about it all. I think I understood about 70%. You keep your head above water admirably, some days I think it is all going to get on top of you for once and for all and then you bob up again.

Lionheart it was so too Greeny. No-one had anything but the purest thoughts in their minds until she turned up. Well I didn't, anyway.

oh i remember these tantrums well

well actually ptobably the next generation joining up to the previous one jogs my memory just a teensy bit

i am sorry i detect my posts today are sounding a bit grouchy melancholic

i have to start an assignment tonight and finish it er tonight too

its not long but long enough and it is about soil

my bread tastes quite nice

it too is nutty

FrannyandZooey · 03/02/2008 21:19

boom boom

what have you said about Pete Docherty, can I be bothered to go and look?
oh I know it was the drugs / bipolar thing
so you reckon people who are bipolar are more likely to be self-medicating with drugs, rather than that drug use is causing bi-polarity, is that right?
makes sense to me but equally I can see it the other way round

OP posts:
Tatties · 03/02/2008 21:26

Ooh Franny that sounds just like ds - quite particular about certain items of clothing and when they can be worn

ZippiBabes · 03/02/2008 21:29

no not really..i just don't see why people would be insulted if a celebrity is speculated to be bipolar...actually i don't know what i mean..i just think give them the benefit of the doubt cos in th end it doesn't matter to anyone but themselves

and their friends and families

i hardly think they are wanting that diagnosis just to look cool ..ironic

any way i diverted frim the op which never goies down well

i always do apparently it winds peoplke u0 something chronic

FrannyandZooey · 03/02/2008 21:31

oh I thought some of the row was because people were saying if you take drugs you bring these problems on yourself
which I know the medical profession do sometimes say
but you said, didn't you, that people with bi-polar were more likely to be drawn to drugs as a way of dealing with the difficulties of life? was that right? sorry i don't know why I don't ask you on the other thread, but I was just lurking

OP posts:
FrannyandZooey · 03/02/2008 21:33

Tatties we spend about 3 months of the year trying to get him into summer clothing and about 3 months of the year trying to get him out of it

I think I partly gave up this year - he wore socks under his little summer canvas shoes 12 months round this time. he refused to do anything else

OP posts:
BBBee · 03/02/2008 21:33

having not read the thread but agree with zippi re self medicating bipolar.

did not run as temperature - this is real truth not avoidance truth. My plan in sun, tues eve and fri lunchtime so will start on tues.

am watching dvd of david bowie and doing that ovulating crush thing.

FrannyandZooey · 03/02/2008 21:36

really? bowie? what era?

hope you feel better, Bee, not exercising when you are fevery is sensible

OP posts:
ZippiBabes · 03/02/2008 21:42

well either to cope with difficulties or because they like them and they take risks is probably just as likely...a tendency to addicitvie behaviours and liking the effects of drugs

I don't know why

well i can speculate...you are buzzing so you need to come down..you are down so you need to go up

it's impossible to explain and i can only talk about myselof which is about as meaningful as anyone talking about their own experience ever is

i have been exchanging some thoughts on manic depression with someone by email tho and it is a relief to find that someone else has the same experiences

ZippiBabes · 03/02/2008 21:45

i was trying to work out what an ovulating crush was...my brain seems to have left the building today i can read but not understand i expect the same is happening with my writing too..just a heap of words
