Festivepussy · 03/12/2004 08:29

Morning...should be on the school run and on my way to work but had to pop in to say hello...Byw again then!

buffettheturkeylayer2 · 03/12/2004 09:04

meeyminkmama - started at about 13 (25 years ago!) - you could buy single fags from the ice cream man. Have tried to stop on numerous occasions - managed it during pregnancy but then started up again a few months after ds was born (when all was hell). Now he's coming up 5 and I've finally bitten the bullet. It is going ok and for the first time that I can really think of, I really don't want a cigarette. DS is delighted as he has been on and on at me to stop. Months ago I explained how difficult it was and that he should never smoke as once you start it is very hard to stop. Two weeks ago we were out shopping and he would not stop picking his nose, I asked him several times and finally he turned to me and said, "mummy, it's just like smoking. ONce you start you just can't stop."

prefernot · 03/12/2004 10:08

Hello BTTL and well done! Is this your usual name by the way, or a Christmas version of your usual name?

I still haven't found a Christmas one. Maybe I'll call myself Ebenezernot instead of something sexy.

I've been a very grumpy, cross, fed up kind of mummy this morning and have come into work feeling racked with guilt. Poor little dd had me up most of the night with her cough (only got about 3 hours sleep) and this morning I had that horrible feeling when you've just got no space left in your head to deal with anything. So I was snappy and chilly and rough getting her dressed which I never normally do and she looked pretty freaked out. I cried into my tissue all the way to the bus stop I felt so horrible. It's not her fault she's got a cough. I've got dp to take her back to the GP this morning. It's a weird cough now as she only has it at night and during her nap. We've got a humidifier and raised the head of the cot but nothing seems to be helping. It's been a tough week this one and I'm amazed I haven't succumbed to the little white death sticks.

I feel so so so mean today. I hope she won't hate me and lose all faith in me.

missyblue · 03/12/2004 14:30

I've changed my name everyone. My surname is Blue anyway and all this Christmassy name stuff was making me feel the heaviness of my other name so hopefully this one's a bit lighter!

Festivepussy · 03/12/2004 15:50

She will still love you PN...is it asthma? I know from reading here on MN a lot of coughs are only at night and a few months later they find out its asthma...including my dd but im not sure what shes got. Have you had her at docs?
I have got through today just, lots on. I HATE that feeling of your heads so full you cant think straight, thats a time I could have a fag, just so I didnt have to think about not smoking for 2 mins!
MissyBlue who RU? BLLT or PN?

Festivepussy · 03/12/2004 15:56

Oh and Mink, how did you end up Mink and Natalie end up Natalie...were your parents having a zanny day and a very normal day or something??!!

bluemoon · 03/12/2004 17:05

I changed again. This is more me. I'm not really a missy. What do you think? Romantic? I realised that at 5,8 weighing 8stone with thick black hair like a horse mane and eyebrows that meet in the middle I probably can't do 'sexy.' So I'm opting for mysterious and romantic.

I was PN by the way. I'm AMAZED you couldn't tell ...

Now about to wind my way through icy London city to get the bus home from work back to apologise and cuddle and adore my little dejected lamb from this morning ...

Cc, dp took her to the GP who said her chest thing was so bad last week it might take up to 4 weeks for it to clear !! What will I become after another 4 weeks of no sleep???

Festivepussy · 03/12/2004 20:18

Reading the lightness heavyness actually I should have guesses, hoe your little lamb doenst baa too much tonight...xx
Did the doc give any antibiotics or anything to help with the healing???
Rattling tongiht for a vodka...nothing to go with it. it would be desperate to drink it out the bottle wouldnt it
Actually i think it would kill me!

bluemoon · 03/12/2004 20:54

Good evening all.

No, the GP wouldn't give antibiotics as he doesn't think there's a bacterial infection, it's all viral. I'm amazed though that the coughing's going on so long and lasts such a long time at night. Last night she coughed non-stop from 9pm-12am, from 2.30am-5am then got up coughing at about 6.15am. Apparently with dp today she skipped her nap because of coughing. She was exhausted when I got home ... Sigh ...

mammya · 03/12/2004 21:29

Hello all
Bluemoon, when my dd has a bad cough at night I find what helps is to increase the moisture content in the air, by putting a bowl of freshly boiled, steaming water in her room and/or wet towels on radiator. Also have you tried vicks vapo rub? It contains menthol which is one of the best things to treat a cough, have a look at this . HTH

Festivepussy · 03/12/2004 21:34

Blooming eck poor child, my dd had a cough that came on at night and when she was active, she was also running out of energy, my doc initially said it was nothing then when it didnt go away he had us up to the hospital for an xray...then for blood tests to see why her own immune system wasnt kicking in and if it was asthma.
Ive never had a cough last 4 weeks except when I had pluracy and I thought I was gonna die then.

FIONA>>>>>>>>> Theres a reference to some bird on a phone in your book that lives where Mink does. I couldnt help but laugh and Mink will spit her teeth out when she reads it...you werent of course writing it with Mink in mind were you

bluemoon · 03/12/2004 21:38

She's been coughing for 10 minutes ...

We bought a humidifier and have been putting that on for an hour before she goes to bed so I know the room's very moist. And I've tried some Vicks vaporub stuff and a couple of cough medicines plus calpol, neurofen etc. I don't know what else to do! She's definitely not herself either, very low in energy, eating hardly anything, touchy etc. etc.

Last night this coughing spree that started now-ish went on for AGES.

On a lighter note, any comments on my new name?

Festivepussy · 03/12/2004 21:43

Very nice, very different and no rsemblence to your previous one. Is there any way to get a 2nd opinion on your dd?

merryminkmama · 03/12/2004 21:59

hi bluemoon, great name both surname and nickname! i thought you were another mnetter at first who contacted me about quitting and her nickname was blue...hang on a minute, that was YOU wasn't it?!!! this was ages ago, do you remember, i've still got your email!!

i'm going to make a blend for your dd, you will need to rub it on her throat & chest. don't worry about the potency, it's less than an adult's mix. i will send you info on how to use it and where, just CAT me with your address. hopefully it might help to ease her discomfort - her poor throat must be burning.

my name comes from my parents being Thai. over there you get given a v. long first name which is on your birth certificate and then your family give you a nickname which you are pretty much known by for the rest of your life. some people don't even know your 'real' name! mine is mink as it translated directly into english. my sister is straighforward natalie because she's 10yrs younger and they realised they were staying in england for a while so gave her an easier name and 'nat' can also be used in thai anyway. there you go, no hippies or hunters

ds1 & ds2 also have thai names on their certificates.

btw, 5'8 & 8 stone, you sound like a model !!

FP, cannot wait to read that bit am intrigued!!! am so no way near tho! are you nearly finished?

merryminkmama · 03/12/2004 21:59

mmm, i agree that 4wks is a bit long really...

merryminkmama · 03/12/2004 22:00

btw, the oils i'll use are anti-viral.

Festivepussy · 03/12/2004 22:07

I am on page...OMG lost the whole book now...dunno...3/4 and a bit the way through You will laugh when you read what im talking about, ive managed to read all those pages sitting on the loo or in the bath this is the first half hour ive actually lay down and read since Babyface!
I am soooooooooo hormonal im sitting here crying over nothing I think if I was smoking I would be arguing with dp over nothing but I feel totally defeated and now I have my coke to go with my voddy I just want to drink it and fall fast asleep and wake up not so teary tommorow.

Festivepussy · 03/12/2004 22:08

I dread to think what your real mane is Mink

Festivepussy · 03/12/2004 22:09

er, that would be name...voddy must have hit the right (or would that be wrong) spot already

bluemoon · 03/12/2004 22:18

Minkmamma, that's SO nice of you thanks. I'll pay you for the oils of course. I don't think I ever emailed you before. I think there's a poster somewhere here with the nickname blue but that's not me, it would be if they hadn't got there first. My real surname is Blue, Anglicised version of German-Jewish Blumenfeld (blooming field), changed during WW2.

I think 4 weeks is too long as well. Dp and I have just been talking about it. When dd was 1 she was diagnosed as being asthmatic and given an inhaler. She's had 2 asthma attacks in the past, both associated with contact with MIL's very massive, slobbery, hairy dogs. But since November 03 she's been fine.

I've been hormonal too cc, that's mostly the reason for my horrible behaviour and weepiness all day today. I was even snivveling over one of dd's bedtime stories tonight ...

bluemoon · 03/12/2004 22:20

Although now I think of it, maybe I did email you before ... a REALLY long time ago? If you've still got the email my address begins blue09

anyway will CAT you. Anything you can send that might help we would really really really appreciate.
