For anyone who wants a boost to their general health. The suggested goals are:

EAT 10 PORTIONS OF FRUIT AND VEGETABLES EVERY DAY - if you don't usually eat much fruit and veg I would build up gradually or you could upset your digestion.

DO (AT LEAST) 10 MINUTES OF EXERCISE EVERY DAY - can be yoga, stretching or something more energetic. The plan is that the idea of doing 10 minutes is not too daunting, and having started you may well find you want to do more.

There are no restrictions on what you eat so long as you get your 10 fruit and veg as well. The focus is not on weight loss but on improving our energy levels and hopefully our general mood and well-being. Sign up below and post here to tell us how you're getting on and how you are feeling.

Basic guidance on what constitutes a portion of fruit and veg here and you can download more detailed information by following the link at the very bottom of the page

does any wise 10 / 10 er know about composting orange peel?

my mother says don't do it

as our compost is about 70% orange peel I can only presume we will have to throw it out and start again, or something [gloom]

we were told not to compost orange peel at college

zippi racks brains for the reason

FrannyandZooey · 21/01/2008 20:41

OP posts:
TigerFeet · 21/01/2008 20:51

oh bugger I've been composting orange peel too

But racking my brains back to my fell walking days we were told not to throw orange peel away as it takes an eternity to decompose - apple cores etc were fine to chuck around th emountains willy nilly as they would rot in a very few months if the sheep didn't get there first.

Arse.

FrannyandZooey · 21/01/2008 20:53

we are doomed tiger feet

the compost police are on their way, I can hear the sirens now

TigerFeet · 21/01/2008 20:57

there's no-one here, oh no.

ZippiBabes · 21/01/2008 20:57

but it is controversial i think it is cos it takes ages to breakdown

Boco · 21/01/2008 20:59

We compost it and it's fine. Always have done and dp is master composter. I just asked him and he said that worms don't really like it but you just mix it in well.

Succotash is what they ate in the depression or something. Or homesteaders? Remember that groove is in the heart song about succotash wish?

FrayedKnot · 21/01/2008 21:04

Deeelite - gosh they were a one-hit-wonder, weren;t they.

I have composted some sastuma peel, but not loads and loads. Will have to wait an see.

Past composting has not been overly successful but we mean well. Once we had a wasps nest in ours during a very dry summer & DH got stung when he went to put some stuff in. We had to dismantle the heap eventually and the nest was really fascinating.

DH has been teaching DS to use a compass. never mind the stapler

TooTicky · 21/01/2008 21:04

Some people do and some people don't.

OR, did you mention prune brownie? I want to know more!

Franny, could you countenance an Eastery sort of meet up?

TooTicky · 21/01/2008 21:05

You could always get a digester sort of compost thing. Or one with worms or something

FrannyandZooey · 21/01/2008 21:05

but what IS succotash

and when is Easter please?

Tatties · 21/01/2008 21:09

Easter is 23rd March

FrannyandZooey · 21/01/2008 21:10

OP posts:
FrayedKnot · 21/01/2008 21:13

Oh, March is busy in this house. DS' birthday, lots of family at Easter, and stuff. Could it be early April

FrayedKnot · 21/01/2008 21:14

Cue all 10/10ers posting dates they can;t make and we eventually fix on June 2010

FrannyandZooey · 21/01/2008 21:15

sorry I can't do early April or in fact April at all

however you are right FK we will end up with June 2010 at this rate, someone fix a date and we will see if we can do it

(last time I emailed everyone with choice of 2 dates and just took the majority decision, if that helps)
