For anyone who wants a boost to their general health. The suggested goals are:

EAT 10 PORTIONS OF FRUIT AND VEGETABLES EVERY DAY - if you don't usually eat much fruit and veg I would build up gradually or you could upset your digestion.

DO (AT LEAST) 10 MINUTES OF EXERCISE EVERY DAY - can be yoga, stretching or something more energetic. The plan is that the idea of doing 10 minutes is not too daunting, and having started you may well find you want to do more.

There are no restrictions on what you eat so long as you get your 10 fruit and veg as well. The focus is not on weight loss but on improving our energy levels and hopefully our general mood and well-being. Sign up below and post here to tell us how you're getting on and how you are feeling.

Basic guidance on what constitutes a portion of fruit and veg here and you can download more detailed information by following the link at the very bottom of the page

I think non-air-freighted kiwis are okay.

ahundredtimes · 23/01/2008 09:50

[stares hard at Franny]

Was it air-freighted?

Yesterday ate many apples, 2 disgusting clementines NOT bought from lovely greengrocer, miso soup. Had lentilly thing for supper, with sausages, including carrots, fennel and various other vegetables. About a 6 probably.

ZippiBabes · 23/01/2008 10:14

im sure my tesco kiwis were air freighted i had last week

well and my ither tesco produce

when i move ishall have a garden and grow things

TigerFeet · 23/01/2008 11:17

Morning all

Where does the air frieghting come in with Mangoes then? TBH I am aware that exotic fruit is probably not all that environmentally friendly but sometimes I just ignore it

I wouldn't bother with the rabbit clock - all the reports I have seen on here for them are crap - apparently they break very easily.

What does Mr TooT do with clocks then? [interested]

I am synchronising with the veggers already - I have shocking shouty weepy chocolate inhaling PMT and am overreacting and overeating accordingly.

BBBeee - I'd be interested in your presentation too. I try very hard but generally fail to not let my depression affect dd. I am a very lazy parent indeed.

I had watercress and potato soup for breakfast [random]

ZippiBabes · 23/01/2008 11:39

i'm sure my mental heaslth problems must have affected my children but im not sure how you work out in what way

they certainly affected their actual lives a lot

but some of the things might even be positive

tho having a suicidal mother can never be positive can it?

i think i did keep a lot hidden

i dont even know now how much they know about me..i would be too scared to ask especially ds for some reason

i think he is the most sensitive

IdrisTheDragon · 23/01/2008 12:34

Hello .

Am not being good on the F&V front at the moment. Somewhat chicken and egg on my general well being - not sure which one influences the other more IYKWIM.

Not sure what influence my depression has on DS and DD - more on DS I think but he is older. Also I wasn't treating the depression when he was very small and I know that made a difference to how I interacted with him. But I am much better in terms of that now and can't change the past anyway [hopeful ].

Um. Lunchtime. Will make sure it includes F&V.

TigerFeet · 23/01/2008 12:50

lunch (microwave job at work) - tomatoey chicken stew with carrots, onion, pearl barley. Have just realised that I have chicken stew (different gravy and potato based one) defrosting for tea too. Oh well, tis good lean protein.

DD and depression - I have been having problems with her recently - partly because I work FT and am always knackered. I make promises that I don't keep (eg we will get up early on Saturday and go to the library then I am so worn out I can't haul myself out of the house). I am so sad for her. I need to streamline my life a bit, for her sake.

10/10ing helps lots though - I have been eating better for the past couple of weeks and I am noticing a difference in my energy levels now.

ZippiBabes · 23/01/2008 13:01

i am going off bricklaying and ;leaving the evil mango here

FrayedKnot · 23/01/2008 14:21

Have just escaped from terribly dull staff meeting and missed the lunch (probably not a great shame, tbh) so have had leftover aubergine & lentil curry from yesterday. A pear, and some dried fruit in my muesli

Good job I had so much f&v yesterday.

The gym thing is coming together and I may be a member as of tomorrow - need to book an induction thingie for the weekend {shock]

And yoga on Tuesday nights

I'm a bit scared and excited about it

FrannyandZooey · 23/01/2008 17:18

I had a winter where I only ate UK fruit from our organic box scheme (they were very dubious about it - "are you SURE? You know it is only going to be pears and apples? You're really, really sure?") and my god I was sick of them by the end of the period. I am too greedy to be more ethical about my food I think - like when I was vegan for a year and then gave up because of my evil cheese habit. I am not a very good role model, sorry.

encouraging thoughts to everyone struggling with depression and other mental nasties.

i have just eaten my mango wich was ok

OverRated · 23/01/2008 19:20

Zippi - did I read that right? You were bricklaying?

Coffee

ZippiBabes · 23/01/2008 19:28

yes i do bricklayiung on wednesdays

ham new potatoes cabbage and cottage cheese

had mixed berries lots of with my breakfast

and bricklaying counts as exercise

TooTicky · 23/01/2008 19:28

TigerFeet, dp does sublimation printing. Mostly mugs, but he can do other things too, including clocks.

I made a huige cauliflower and broccoli soup today and ate 2 bowlfuls. Am now eating pizza (tomato, pepper, mushroom, pineapple, sweetcorn, onion, etc).

I seem to have a cold. I was ignoring it but it is now trying to settle in my chest.

OverRated · 23/01/2008 19:39

Oh, zippi - that made me laugh. I can just imagine your to-do list:

Monday - Laundry
Tuesday - Shopping
Wednesday - Bricklaying

I bet it is good exercise. I quite fancy doing something very manual like that. I think it would be good for me - my mind is much more peaceful when my hands are busy.

I think I need to make soup. It's soupy weather.

MrsCarrot · 23/01/2008 19:48

I have been running again and now my knees hurt and in a minute I am gong to eat kippers with a poached egg.

FrannyandZooey · 23/01/2008 20:13

I had a big salad, lettuce, cucumber, tomato, pepper, avocado, new pots, kidney beans &c

made up for rest of day which was poor

v quiet on here but if any veggers around please could you have a look at my sleep thread here please?

I know almost everyone said "just leave things how they are" but he was so excited when I mentioned getting a clock, and I thought MrsC talked a lot of sense. The clincher was when we had a very early morning and I asked him to just stay in his room reading and eating satsumas, and he was totally fine and came in for cuddles afterwards and it was just as nice. I am pretty sure he will tell us if he doesn't like the new routine. But it would be soooo nice if it works.

FrannyandZooey · 23/01/2008 20:42

zip you didn't send me your address yet
that would be essential to getting parcels from me I am afraid

Tatties · 23/01/2008 20:46

I don't quite know how to tell you this

Ds chose a mango from the shop a couple of weeks ago, and, it must have been good because he asked dp for it one Saturday while I was out, and by the time I came back it was gone

TooT - Lotus births - I know someone who has done this, I think it sounds amazing and wonderful.

BBB - How is your presentation going? I would be really interested in the results too.

FrannyandZooey · 23/01/2008 20:57

at successful mango scoffers

zippi it is frannyandzooey at india dot com

I scouted around and have only found one so far, i have distant memory of lending to another friend who obviously never gave back

the one I found is this. It isn't my favourite but is quite amusing
