For anyone who wants a boost to their general health. The suggested goals are:

EAT 10 PORTIONS OF FRUIT AND VEGETABLES EVERY DAY - if you don't usually eat much fruit and veg I would build up gradually or you could upset your digestion.

DO (AT LEAST) 10 MINUTES OF EXERCISE EVERY DAY - can be yoga, stretching or something more energetic. The plan is that the idea of doing 10 minutes is not too daunting, and having started you may well find you want to do more.

There are no restrictions on what you eat so long as you get your 10 fruit and veg as well. The focus is not on weight loss but on improving our energy levels and hopefully our general mood and well-being. Sign up below and post here to tell us how you're getting on and how you are feeling.

Basic guidance on what constitutes a portion of fruit and veg here and you can download more detailed information by following the link at the very bottom of the page

You thought ds1 would be a problem when you took dd1 out though didn't you, and he was fine wasn't he?

I think if you say to ds2 very straight 'you like school and are getting a lot out of it and Mrs G is great, so you are going to carry on going to school' he will accept it? Or not? Will you need to offer him the possibility of HE when he's older?

Is dd going to secondary school, or will she carry on HEing. That might make a difference too.

TooTicky · 15/01/2008 15:09

And then ds1 could stay out indefinitely, or try secondary, or... I don't know.
And ds2 could stay in school at least until the end of year 2, and then he might want to stay or he might not.
Dd2 would start school when ds2 starts year 3.

Sorry, I'm cluttering up the thread.

OP posts:
ahundredtimes · 15/01/2008 15:11

No you are not cluttering up anything, don't be daft.

I think it is okay for different dcs to do different things, and for that to be acceptable - and in this house - desirable.

One of them may want to stay in school, and the ones that don't can do it differently.

TooTicky · 15/01/2008 15:13

Once the issue is raised, ds1 will definitely want to leave school.
Ds2 enjoys school and has fun with his friends there, but if everyone else was at home he might well feel left out. I don't actually want to give him the choice. Simply because what he has there atm is something I can't give him.
But if we had to move elsewhere, I would have them all at home.

I've got to go TooT. I shall ponder on this while slurping my coffee and going to the greengrocers and school etc.

ahundredtimes · 15/01/2008 15:14

OK - so don't give him the choice, do the MrsG speech like option down below?

[putting on coat]

will talk later.

TooTicky · 15/01/2008 15:15

Oh, and dp is sceptical. Thinks ds1 would need a lot of structure. But in fact, if he's not watching television or playing on the computer, he will be learning something anyway....won't he?

OP posts:
TooTicky · 15/01/2008 15:22

I must go too. Dp is actually picking the boys up today and they will be back soon, and hungry. Unless dp buys them unsuitable things on the way back

am copying from another thread as ds is on good form today:

Ds just said "Fairy princesses is not more beautiful than me, are they?"

also this morning "I have got the nicest little bottom in the whole village"

(we don't live in a village btw )

TooT I can see why you are quandarising. I would imagine people would learn better in a situation where they are happy but I know that is rather idealistic.

Boco · 15/01/2008 16:13

Oh dear I feel quite embarrassed. DD2 was just playing a game where she stuck a sticky label on me and then ripped it off, and I had to do a blood curdling wail of agony, and she'd do hysterical laughing and then do it again - not a thought out game or anything, you know, just fooling.

And I thought i heard a knock at the door but then decided it couldn't be so carried on with the wailing. Then big knock, and the gas meter reading man was there looking very embarrassed and said 'is everything ok madam? I was concerned, i heard screaming, do you need help?!' and i responded by blushing and saying i was having my tummy waxed by a 3 year old and was fine, and he looked appalled and went off quickly to read the meter. He had long blonde hair and looked like an older shorter Michael Bolton.

FrannyandZooey · 15/01/2008 16:50

LOL I am impressed, your blood curdling screams must have been very convincing

mine would have been along the lines of

[half hearted] mmm, what? oh. aargh.

Tatties · 15/01/2008 16:51

Oh Franny ROFL at "I have got the nicest little bottom in the whole village" - I be he does as well

And Avi, LOL at flaps in breastplates! Medieval role play is not me either...

I have made sushi

Cappuccino · 15/01/2008 17:15

well well well

I hid health because all the illnesses scare me

(ill and paranoid)

and then I was thinking for weeks 'ooh, I wonder where 10/10 went)

Tatties · 15/01/2008 17:25

Ooh Capp that's a good idea, I think I should hide health too

Cappuccino · 15/01/2008 17:30

yes I had to look through all the titles to get here

Tatties · 15/01/2008 18:10

If you make sure you post then it will be on your threads I'm on, then be diligent about following the link and signing in on each new 10/10 thread then it would work. You would never have to look at another health thread again!

FrannyandZooey · 15/01/2008 18:33

oh I have scan photo here if anyone interested

if you turn and look at it sideways you can see the profile has come out really well. From the normal way up it just looks like a blur to me but sideways on, comes clear

ZippiBabes · 15/01/2008 18:34

oh wow that is clear isn't it

FrayedKnot · 15/01/2008 18:41

Hello everyone

I have had a salad of celery, cucumber, pepper and carrot, plus later on a big bowl of baby spinach with pine nuts & sultanas. Supper was cauliflower risotto which was surprising, and a huuuge plate of asparagus (Spanish)...I really, really fancied it for some reason. I haven;t actually had any fruit but I can;t think I've got room for much else.

I have decided not to have any dairy for a few days to see if it stops my elbows from itching - but I would like something "spready" to try which might take the place of cheese, to have with oatcakes. I love hoummous but not sure I should eat it every day (I could). What else could I have? I don;t mind if it's something to buy or to make.

RL is being a bit problematic at the moment so I need diverting.

MrsCarrot · 15/01/2008 18:42

Thats lovely, Franny.

I was just looking at it with my head on one side saying, ahhhh, when I looked up as ds2 was saying ahhh and he also had his head on one side copying me! Well, I thought it was funny.

Mirin glazed salmon here with bak choi, prurple sprouting and courgettes. Now I am in a cloud of blueberries and the floor was only mopped today.

FrayedKnot · 15/01/2008 18:43

Wow Franny good diversion...it's brilliantly clear, isn;t it! Ooh I'm all of a tingle looking at that

FrannyandZooey · 15/01/2008 18:52

thanks chaps

FK there are some lovely veg pates around - Cauldron do lots of flavours or personally I also like Tartex pate or peanut butter. I know hummus is salty and fatty but it also has protein and calcium, and it isn't saturated animal fat. Plus how much do you need on an oatcake?

FrannyandZooey · 15/01/2008 18:53

PLUS Fk snap on the asparagus - hope you read my ds's admonishment further down the thread
