For anyone who wants a boost to their general health. The suggested goals are:

EAT 10 PORTIONS OF FRUIT AND VEGETABLES EVERY DAY - if you don't usually eat much fruit and veg I would build up gradually or you could upset your digestion.

DO (AT LEAST) 10 MINUTES OF EXERCISE EVERY DAY - can be yoga, stretching or something more energetic. The plan is that the idea of doing 10 minutes is not too daunting, and having started you may well find you want to do more.

There are no restrictions on what you eat so long as you get your 10 fruit and veg as well. The focus is not on weight loss but on improving our energy levels and hopefully our general mood and well-being. Sign up below and post here to tell us how you're getting on and how you are feeling.

Basic guidance on what constitutes a portion of fruit and veg here and you can download more detailed information by following the link at the very bottom of the page

I was thinking of Revelry, and that everyone meets in a virtual medieval banqueting hall to drink mead and eat grouse (with lots of medieval vegetables) and maybe play the lyre.

You're very good doing running MrsC. We did lots of walking and climbing on holiday and i feel much better for it - must think of something fittening.

FrannyandZooey · 15/01/2008 13:47

am having lunch. ds has just asked "mummy is asparagus in season?" er guess what we are having? When I said no he said chidingly "oh MUMMY"

Iklboo · 15/01/2008 13:53

So far today I've had (veg & fruit wise)

1 celery stick
10 strawberries
20 blueberries
10 grapes
1 whole kiwi
6 cherries
1 "1 a day" yoghurt

and tonight will be having

Chicken cassrole with
Borlotti beans
baby sweetcorn
sugarsnap peas
asparagus

SO - I AM covering my 5 a day aren't I? PLEASE say I am!!

FrannyandZooey · 15/01/2008 14:02

sounds good Iklboo and depending on portion size of veg you may be inching towards the 10

see OP for portion sizes and please stick around and make yourself at home if you want

Iklboo · 15/01/2008 14:11

We started a 'no starchy carbs (bread, pasta, rice, cerals etc) after 5pm diet' last week.
I can honestly say I feel less bloated, more energetic and am sleeping better (plus am feeling in a rudey mood more often).
I'm loving eating all the fruit & veg and it's also pushing me menu wise not to fall back on the old "mash, roasties, chips, wedges" routine

FrannyandZooey · 15/01/2008 14:16

oh it sounds fab, although I am a bit frowny about limiting carbs in general, but eating more f+v and feeling more energetic and all that has to be good

do you get hungry in the evenings?

FrannyandZooey · 15/01/2008 14:18

Right I have finished my air miles contraband

I had lettuce, cucumber, tomato salad with most of a bunch of asparagus and some bread and c**e

plus shared some revolting smoothie thing with ds round the shops

Iklboo · 15/01/2008 14:21

We eat fairly late cos DH is a driving instructor and gets in about 8:30 usually.
We have low-sugar jelly & natural yoghurt as a treat - or stick some chicken wings in marinade & roast them for supper if we get peckish.

Iklboo · 15/01/2008 14:22

Oh - and we still eat bread, pasta ect BEFORE 5pm, just not after

Welcome Ikiboo. A driving instructor? You don't live in Suffolk by any chance?

I haven't eaten anything, I have a headache and a bad morning shopping, the three things are related.

FrannyandZooey · 15/01/2008 14:52

that should have been c%^*&e

it looks like I mean cake

FrannyandZooey · 15/01/2008 14:53

low sugar jelly

surely that has - sweeteners in?

100 please eat something. Not sugar free jelly.

What though? My head hurts and there's nothing to eat, AND nothing to feed dcs either. I am in a massive sulk.

TooTicky · 15/01/2008 15:00

What a coincidence! I went shopping today (prompted by ds2's trouser crisis) and I have a headache and have eaten very little. Shopping is bad for the soul. At least, soulless shopping is.

I am quandarising over school issues.

Avi, have you visited the Steiner school yet? If you liked it, would you actually move 500 miles for it? HE is very good you know.

ahundredtimes · 15/01/2008 15:01

Ooh share your quandry. Might you HE everyone TooT? Or is about dd1 your quandry?

TooTicky · 15/01/2008 15:01

100x, can you start with a wee bit of fruit or bread and work your way up? Or do you really need to sleep it off?

OP posts:
TooTicky · 15/01/2008 15:02

It is that ds1 would undoubtably be immeasurably happier out of school.

OP posts:
ahundredtimes · 15/01/2008 15:03

There is NO fruit. NO fruit.[hangs head]

I will go to greengrocer on the way to school. What shall I buy there to feed everyone tonight?

Perhaps I need a coffee? Haven't had a coffee for ages. [perks up] I get v. tight shoulders too, I need a massage. It is all the repression I do, it goes on my shoulders.

ahundredtimes · 15/01/2008 15:04

He would? Are you thinking about taking him out? What's stopping you? You're an old hand at this now TooT.

TooTicky · 15/01/2008 15:05

But if ds1 left school and ds2 was still there, would that be a problem? Ds2 benefits from school - his class has a wonderful atmosphere and I adore his teacher. Also the teacher he will have next year. And I would like dd2 to experience school with these two teachers because they are wonderful people.
Not that the other teachers are bad in any way - maybe it is the nurturing nature of the first 3 schhool years, with these particular teachers.

OP posts:
TooTicky · 15/01/2008 15:07

So, technically, ds1 could leave school - either nowish or, say, at Easter and have some time bonding with dd1 before she starts secondary school.
But ds2 would be the only one in school and I don't know how he would feel.

OP posts:
FrannyandZooey · 15/01/2008 15:08

I was meant to do loads of shopping but got a bit wobbly, had a smoothie and came home and ate air miles. That's what you should all have done [smug]

TooT who would it be a problem for? Ds2?

FrannyandZooey · 15/01/2008 15:08
