I know there is a mumsnet runners thread but I am a total beginner, and feel a bit overawed on there as they all seem really experienced.

I am going to be following this training programme, running 3x a week, starting next week once my children are back at school. I say running, but in reality i will be starting with a brisk walk, then picking up the pace over the next couple of months.

I have registered interest in Race For life, which is may/june, and will be taking part in the harefield fun run.

Anyone want to join me

Oh well done PSW ! Am really not sure if i'd make it to 25 mins ... but hten wasn't sure I'd make it to 20.

I think, I will go out with the 25 min podcast and see how I go. Knowing me, once I've got to 20 I'll be too pigheaded to stop (unless I collapse of course, which is always a possibility !).

Minum - Well done too ! I think I may part from the podcasts now I have got to a straight run.

Right am going to have a bath to try and ease the ache in my left calf muscle...

pinkspottywellies · 21/02/2008 22:04

I've thought I wouldn't be able to manage nearly every one! I was the same tonight - pig headed!

Itsawooluf - it's usually harder the first one of a new week but by the end of the week you'll find it easier and it's great to see how you've improved. Keep going!

Misdee, good luck on Sunday. I'll be thinking of you. Do you think you'll be able to run much of it? Are you oging yo do run/walk/run? What happened with SGK? Is she going to do it?

misdee · 21/02/2008 22:06

SGK is doing it with me. am doing walk/run/walk/run untill the 5km is completed. i have my running number and red BHF t-shirt already.
cant wait!

Good luck misdee for the weekend !

PSW - I'll give it a go tomorrow and report back.

If anyone doesn't have an Ipod/MP3 and wants one - Apple have reduced their Shuffle to £32 ! here I assume they're about the change them or something but that doesn't really matter. The shuffle is ace for running !

widgypog · 22/02/2008 11:23

oooh have just done run 3 week 3 and got a bit carried away and ran 7 mins first run and 5 the second missing out the 90 seconds in between. was that naughty?

Does anyone else find it easier to keep going rather than stop and start?

Am looking forward to week 4 now cause I know I can do it..hooray!!!

Furball · 23/02/2008 09:00

have done nothing since monday - doesn't help it's the holidays and now have the lurgy from DH. haven't got an ounce of energy in me.

wheelybug · 23/02/2008 17:07

I Did it, I did it ! twenty five minutes. I actually can't believe it... I put it off this morning as we'd had a bad night with dd and then we had dd's nct 3rd birthday party and then we came home and i decided I'd go and try and at least get to 20 minutes. 10 minutes in I jumped the farking ipod and so lost dear old Rawb so had to run to DH's running music but I did it ! And... I ran 3 miles plus the walk .

Am about to collapse though.

Well done Widgypog - sounds like your doing great !

Furball - hope you're feeling better

and finally... GOOD LUCK TOMORROW MISDEE AND SPARKLY*

wheelybug · 23/02/2008 17:07

OOPS

SPARKLY

cherryredretrochick · 23/02/2008 17:47

Good Luck tom Misdee and SPG, Sorry I haven't sponsored you but my blardy card wouldn't authorise and after about 10 tries I have given up.
I didn't amanage to get today as massive hangover, will definatley go in the moring though.

cherryredretrochick · 23/02/2008 17:49

Meant SGK of course.

MrsJohnCusack · 23/02/2008 19:40

misdee I have just sponsored you, sorry it's not more, good luck!

And well done to all you people running 20/25 mins - I can't imagine ever being able to do that. I did week 2 run 2 last week and it was really, really hard (was quite hot here too which didn't help). BUT I haven't missed a day yet, and I haven't walked in any of the running bit since the very first time so I quite proud of that. Don't seem to be shifting even a pound in weight though, grrrr

misdee · 23/02/2008 19:44

thank you mrsJC and everyone who has sponsered me.

icant belive how well this thread has taken off when i started it i though i would be all on my todd!

now i cant give up with all you ladies being lovely and supportive.

btw the 25minute one is scaring me, which week is that on? [gulps]

LAST NIGHT not last week

bramblebooks · 23/02/2008 20:07

wow well done you lot. You inspired me to keep going to the 20 mins on the treadmill today - sooooo much easier than running along the canal and up and down the lock towpaths!

I'm hoping to do the 25 mins week next week, onwards and upwards to 5k then 10k (for my 'race'/fun run this summer)

widgypog · 24/02/2008 12:49

well done wheely bug!!!

pinkspottywellies · 25/02/2008 15:24

Well done Wheely!!!!
How did you get on yesterday Misdee? Hope you did well and raised loadsa money!

bramblebooks · 25/02/2008 15:57

Yay! another 20 mins, aiming for 20 mins on Weds then upping to 25 on Fri.

Just registered and paid for the 10k run. eek!

Furball · 25/02/2008 16:23

to any running being done. I havn't been since last Monday and now I'm thick with cold so not sure when I'll be able to go next.

Fab, fab stuff this, I'm completely amazed that chubby little ole me can do this and what a buzz you get from knowing you can and leaves you wanting to do more.

LilRedWG · 25/02/2008 16:30

Can I have a kick up the behind please. I need to start tonight or I'll never do it!

wheelybug · 25/02/2008 16:39

Well done bramblebooks ! Whats the 10k you've signed up for ? I want to find one for Autumn time to keep me spurred on.

Come on Lilred - get out there.. it'll be worth it in the end..

Furball - hope the cold clears up soon.

Misdee - how did you go ?

Thansk widgy and PSW.

I did another 25 minuter this morning . Almost fainted when he said I was only half way through though and then he didn't come back in to give a time check until 24 minutes by which time I was on the verge of collapse. Won't get out now until Thursday which I'm quite relieved about tbh .

widgypog · 25/02/2008 16:48

well done wheely bug!! I am on the verge of collapse at 8 mins so respect to 25!!

Does anyone kind of go into a trance to get through it or is that just me? I guess it what the americans call in the zone!!

I have had kind of stiff knees..do you think this is normal? not hurting just kind of heavy..I have had a very bad back for a long time and only found a chiropractor at xmas who could fix me after trying loads. He says it is 'good 'pain like your body getting used to it or something. I just dont want to break myself after being unable to exercise for sooo long.
I really want to become a 'runner' !!!!

pinkspottywellies · 25/02/2008 20:23

LILRED [stern] GO OUT AND RUN NOW. Go on or you'll never do it. And you'll feel fab when you've finished

pinkspottywellies · 25/02/2008 20:27

Just done 25 mins. First of week7 on the podcast. Much more of a run than a jog I felt (although a slow run).

I started to make a playlist for my iPod to do the running to but I didn't dare use it. I feel like I need Rawb now! I kind of get 'in the zone' and the music helps me tune out (much as I dislike it!). I didn't want to change and be wanting to bop along to my favourite tunes!

Haven't seen aitch on the thread for a while. Anyone seen her around? And where's Misdee?

misdee · 25/02/2008 20:31

the fun run was good. we did get lapped by the 10k-ers. but laods of different people there taking part, from little kids, to old men.

it has made me more determined to become a 'proper' runner and keep going. next year i will be running the whole 5k and maybe the 10k route as well.

heres to the next 3months and race for life at the beginning of june!
