I know there is a mumsnet runners thread but I am a total beginner, and feel a bit overawed on there as they all seem really experienced.

I am going to be following this training programme, running 3x a week, starting next week once my children are back at school. I say running, but in reality i will be starting with a brisk walk, then picking up the pace over the next couple of months.

I have registered interest in Race For life, which is may/june, and will be taking part in the harefield fun run.

Anyone want to join me

Wheely stumbles in and does a veerr--yy slow and stiff victory dance....

I did it ! I did it !

Week 4, Run 1 ! All of it - hurrah ! Thanks Minum and PinkSpotty for making me think I might be able to do it

I even had to do the last 5 min run without music as I knocked my ipod and it went back tot he beginning which almost threw me but I pushed on.

SO everyone - if I can do it - you can too !!

Good luck Lilred... you'll be fine.

wheelybug · 04/02/2008 11:57

oops my 'very' went a bit wrong ... trying to be clever and it ended up crossing things out,...

AitchTwoOh · 04/02/2008 11:59

WELL DONE THAT BUG! (although i think the wheels must help a little).

wheelybug · 04/02/2008 11:59

oooh ooh and.. .according to map my run and my best guess at mapping my run in the park I almost ran/walked 3 miles.... Yippee !!

wheelybug · 04/02/2008 12:00

LOL !

MissCreant · 04/02/2008 12:55

well done, wheely!

I have new trousers now so even though they are a bit camel-toed at least there's no camel toe/penis combo going on. I was literally holding them up as I ran last night. Not a good look.

LilRedWG · 04/02/2008 13:29

Well done Wheely!

pinkspottywellies · 04/02/2008 19:52

Have you been yet LilRed? Hope it went ok. And well done Wheely!!! Without music too. I took my earphones out the other day to thread them in my scarf and it felt really wierd even for about 15 seconds!!

You flash git MrsC - new trousers!!

I measured my route in the car today and I'm doing 4.2k (about 2 and a half miles). It's half a k further than when I started week one!! Yay! Starting week 5 tomorrow. Wish me luck!

LilRedWG · 04/02/2008 20:56

I've been and I survived!

Okay, admittedly I didn't do the fourth run - my trainers were rubbing and I was knackered but I did the rest! The first 60 seconds went quicker than I thought - I had been worried I couldn't do 60 seconds before I went.

Before I can go out again I need to regrow some skin on my heels (DH peeled it off my socks when I got back) and buy some proper running shoes - but I DID IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

LilRedWG · 04/02/2008 20:56

Thank you all for your support and thank you Misdee for starting this thread

MissCreant · 04/02/2008 20:58

I am not a flash git, PSW.

My trousers had lost so much elastic that I had to bunch the top together with my old riding badge and it looked like I had a penis. And they still fell down. New trousers were necessary for continued running, no-one can run whilst holding up their own slacks.

MissCreant · 04/02/2008 20:58

Well done, Lilred!

pinkspottywellies · 04/02/2008 21:16

MrsC

Well done LilRed. It feels amazing doesn't it!

AitchTwoOh · 04/02/2008 21:24

well done lilred.

i just did week two run one, after a break since friday and boy, did i feel it... hoping that wednesday won't puggle me quite so much. still, loving the fact that it's over in half an hour!

wheelybug · 04/02/2008 21:53

Well done Lil and Aitch !

Thanks for the well dones too ! And yes, I agree Lil, thanks Misdee for starting this thread (and to those who found the podcast !).

I have new trousers coming tomorrow. Is it sad to be excited about new running clobber coming ?

wheelybug · 04/02/2008 21:53

ooh and my armband mobile phone holder I bought from ebay might arrive too. Today I ran with mobile, car keys, house keys and inhaler in my pocket and felt somewhat weighed down

LadyJogsAlot · 04/02/2008 21:56

god, i'm knackered from that jog. i've lost 6 pounds in the last month. i am chuffed.

pinkspottywellies · 04/02/2008 22:00

Wheely, if you need to carry all that why not use a little rucksack? I only take my iPod although I do wonder if I ought to have my phone in case of emergency, but I only get about 10mins walk from home and it's all residential so I could knock on a random door if needs be.

pinkspottywellies · 04/02/2008 22:01

That's great LadyJogs! Have you been dieting as well?

wheelybug · 04/02/2008 22:30

Pinkspotty - I usually only have mobile and front door key but because I went out to richmond park had all the extras (had inhaler cos it was colder). I also had a bottle of water too which was a great help - first time I've done that. I take my phone as I'm a bit paranoid about dd being at pre-school and me not being on end of phone (Being PFB and all that).

Anyway, we do have a little rucksack which I searched for this morning but DH took it skiing a couple of weeks back and I couldn't find it. Grrrr. Dh has just informed me it is 'where its always been'.... Double grrrr.

LilRedWG · 05/02/2008 08:31

Thanks all It does feel great and I'm actually not too sore today (it'll probably hit tomorrow), but I really need to grow some skin back on my heels before I can run again. Once my feet are up to trying on shoes, which'll hopefully be in a day or so, I'll get some decent running shoes and then start again.

LadyJogsAlot · 05/02/2008 09:09

pinkspotty, i have been kinda counting points as in weight watchers. i have found that i've gone over a couple of days because i feel so hungry, i guess that's due to the exercise!

wheelybug, i jog with a rucksack on. it's one with two normal straps and an extra one which fastens across the chest. it's really good as it doesn't bobble around when running.

dh has been running twice a week and he has lost half a stone too!

wheelybug · 05/02/2008 09:52

Thanks Lady - I'll give the rucksack a go next time I need to be laden down ! If I run round the roads I just take my phone and door key (Ipod clips on so doesn't really add to baggage) so not too bad esp if my armband thing comes for my phone.

Weekends are much better as I take nothing !

I was beginning to worry () how I was going to fit in my runs at half term as dd would be around (and is only 3). DH leaves for work at 7 ish and often isn't home till 10ish or later so can't really do a before or after. Anyway, after dd's swimming lesson she randomly picked up a leaflet for hal term activities at our leisure centre and she can go for some play sessions there and I can go out running - yippee ! Its a sad thing to be pleased about really.

HAve come down with a bit of a sniffle today. Not due to run today as dd home so hoping it doesn't escalate as need to do runs tomorrow and thurs to get my 3 in as we're away for the weekend....

wheelybug · 05/02/2008 09:54

Lady - also meant to say - well done to youR DH. My runnign has inspired my DH to get out and run a bit too when he can. NOt for weight loss (he weighs about 9 stone on a fat day) but for fitness/ general stress levels etc. So this thread seems to have inspired many more than it appears ! Thanks again Misdee !

LilRedWG · 05/02/2008 10:10

Well done on the weight loss! That's great!

Just worked out I covered 1.75 miles last night - am pleasantly suprised.
