I know there is a mumsnet runners thread but I am a total beginner, and feel a bit overawed on there as they all seem really experienced.

I am going to be following this training programme, running 3x a week, starting next week once my children are back at school. I say running, but in reality i will be starting with a brisk walk, then picking up the pace over the next couple of months.

I have registered interest in Race For life, which is may/june, and will be taking part in the harefield fun run.

Anyone want to join me

Ohhhh No! I do hope you haven't badly hurt yourself. Falling in public is my ultimate nightmare so much sympathy from me.

Session two of week two tomorrow.....I found the longer run but less repitition really doable. I'm feeling a bit anxious now that the race for life link has been posted...FFS my dh has survived the London marathon.....I really should be able to cope with 5k. I would be on my own though.....

Minum · 22/01/2008 08:38

Hope you feel better this morning Fishalot. I'm prevaricating too about Race for Life, as I was planning to run with DS and DH, but I guess I could do R4L on my own, as a sort of warm-up - but I cant ask people to sponsor me twice [unsure] (emoticon missing)

LadyThingFishAlot · 22/01/2008 08:43

ok i feel better this morning. it was very embarassing. i slipped over but kinda fell into a tree. so i scratched all up my legs and on my bum but after falling into the tree i then fel on the floor hurting my hands and my knees too.

a car was driving past and they stopped (i think to check if i was ok) but i got up and kept jogging. my leg was KILLING me but i just wanted to get home! also my hands were covered in mud but i wasn't sure if it was poo so i didn't breathe through my nose until i got home incase it was i think i would have started crying. thank god it was just mud.

i was totally gutted though. dh was a sweetie and helped me wash my scratches. i felt really down about not being able to do my jog as i had been looking forward to it all day, so he did davina's workout with me to cheer me up!

i have big bruises today. next jog on thursday...

tortoise · 22/01/2008 10:17

Not going to jog today. I feel like i have an elephant sat on my chest! And have a cough too. I think if i started to jog i would soon have to stp and have a coughing fit.
Will aim for Thursday now! It is all going wrong! (and i have gained 3lbs [sad[)

Well I did week two session one yesterday morning. I was determined not to get out of my Mon-Wed-Fri routine but really should have stayed at home! We're right in the middle of yesterday's Yorkshire floods and I had to contend with flooded pavements, rivers coming off the hillside where there was never even a stream before and cars driving through the flooded roads soaking me.

I have to confess I missed one 90 sec repetition because my trousers were so soaked and heavy I thought they were going to fall down .

There was a massive traffic jam where the road was totally flooded so at least I was quicker than the cars.

So anyone who says they can't go out because it's drizzling...

Hi All,
I used to run before having DD1 and could then comfortably run 5 miles albeit very slowly. Then when I was 3 months pregnant I found out I had a DVT in my leg so had to stop exercising apart from gentle walking. When my DD was 5 months old I decided to start running again. I got up to approx. 1.5 miles when I started getting pain in both knees. That was 3 months ago and still get the pain when I walk up and down stairs. Does anyone have any ideas on how I can get running again without the pain?

Thanks.

i have lost my ipod no idea where it can be, am hoping its not in the washing machine.

am trying to get that podcast working for my old mp3 player, does anyone know if it will work?

OP posts:
wheelybug · 22/01/2008 18:17

oh no on the ipod misdee ! I don't think the podcast will work on an MP3 as its through apple so its MP4...

I have bought a shuffle today - so currently trying to download podcast and start week 2 tomorrow. Also signed up for the race for life last night so no excuses now .

Furball · 22/01/2008 19:17

oh no misdee! - I have a normal mp3 player and podcast plays fine. 20 quid, amazon!

wheelybug · 22/01/2008 21:00

oh ok Im wrong . I read something that suggested itunes only worked with apple products but I must have read it wrong - sorry for the misinfo.

Furball · 22/01/2008 21:16

wheeleybug - it's not itunes - its a normal mp3 podcast

pinkspottywellies · 22/01/2008 22:12

Phew! Started week 3 tonight (in the rain!) and it was fine! I was a bit disappointed as I didn't get as far (distance wise) as I usually do - got to the same place on my circuit as the very first run - but then I realised it's only 26 mins this week! And there's an incentive to get to week 3 everyone!! It's 5 mins shorter than week 2!

tortoise · 22/01/2008 22:15

I have been trying again to get the podcasts without any luck! ineed help with timing without having to carry a stop watch as well as everything else!

TooTicky · 22/01/2008 22:19

Can anybody run? My knees hurt sometimes and I think I'd feel self-conscious. I sort of like the idea of it though.

tortoise · 22/01/2008 22:22

TT I don't run! I jog! lol!
I do feel self conscious but once i get going it's not too bad.

TooTicky · 22/01/2008 22:23

What's the difference between running and jogging then?

tortoise · 22/01/2008 22:26

Jogging is slower, i think! Well i am slow anyway

misdee · 22/01/2008 22:30

TT atm i jog.

OP posts:
TooTicky · 22/01/2008 22:32

Did you just start? Just like that? I think I am a coward.

Furball · 23/01/2008 06:52

when I went out Sunday - I sprinted passed the house twice just in case dh looked out the window.

Minum · 23/01/2008 06:56

TT - I broke myself in gently, did a sort of scouts pace (v short bursts of jogging/walking) for a couple of times, then started the plan for real.

It really is OK when you have a go - I am fat and unfit and I'm enjoying it

FillyjonkisCALM · 23/01/2008 07:16

Am going to lurk on this thread I think

given that I plan to give birth in the next few weeks I will not be actually doing this yet, but I want to.

I did USED to run, but having 3 babies in 4.5 years has bllx that up a bit .

Oh and there seem to be a lot of big jumpy barky dogs round here, especially in the park. Anyone got any advice? I do not like big dogs.

Furball · 23/01/2008 09:02

just got back from week 2 run 2 - ran in a t shirt! (and trousers obviously!!) everyone was walking to school with big coats on.

TooTicky · 23/01/2008 09:18

Filly, I love the way you say that you plan to give birth - as if you have a choice
It makes you sound very organised.

TooTicky · 23/01/2008 09:19

If I did try this, I think I would come over all self-conscious when I saw anybody and just walk until they had gone
