For anyone who wants a boost to their general health. The suggested goals are:

EAT 10 PORTIONS OF FRUIT AND VEGETABLES EVERY DAY - if you don't usually eat much fruit and veg I would build up gradually or you could upset your digestion.

DO (AT LEAST) 10 MINUTES OF EXERCISE EVERY DAY - can be yoga, stretching or something more energetic. The plan is that the idea of doing 10 minutes is not too daunting, and having started you may well find you want to do more.

There are no restrictions on what you eat so long as you get your 10 fruit and veg as well. The focus is not on weight loss but on improving our energy levels and hopefully our general mood and well-being. Sign up below and post here to tell us how you're getting on and how you are feeling.

Basic guidance on what constitutes a portion of fruit and veg here and you can download more detailed information by following the link at the very bottom of the page

OverRated · 24/11/2007 23:22

I'm new to this. In fact, I haven't started but I have good intentions

So, how on earth do I eat 10 portions of fruit and veg each day?

pinkspottywellies · 24/11/2007 23:28

Welcome Overrated! Everyone will give you tips on getting the 10 portions in but mainly start well with breakfast - you can get 4 in easily. I have dried fruit on my cereal and juice counts as one, then some fresh fruit. You can also count things like beans and lentils (see link in op). Snack on fruit and veg between meals too and you'll find it's not too hard!

Thank you - let's see how I get on tomorrow!

IdrisTheDragon · 25/11/2007 08:39

Hello .

DS's party yesterday was very good. Everyone seemed to enjoy themselves . Very tiring day though. My mum and dad came down from Liverpool and enjoyed themselves.

There are presents everywhere. I think there are still unopened ones somewhere .

Who was it who had a birthday yesterday (and their DS did as well)? My memory has departed me.

DS and DD are making coughing noises like seals. My throat feels rather sandpapery. Moan moan moan .

BBBee · 25/11/2007 08:57

hi idris

congrats on party - they are unusually stressful aren't they - but well worth it.

i hope healthwise you pick up a bit - sadly that timeof year.

may i prescribe a sit down and chocolate a hot drink

manchita · 25/11/2007 08:59

fmv- Sorry had to go out for the day yesterday!
I have 2 dc- 1 DD aged 4 and 1 DS aged 18
months.
Thank you for being so welcoming and you are not stalkerish at all!
I look forward to having time to connect properly to this thread....maybe this evening.
I hope your dinner party goes well..sounds like a lot of funxxxxxxxx
P.S Did you buy an extra chicken?

manchita · 25/11/2007 09:10

Anyway,I am going out now to buy some berries and lots of other healthy stuff recommended on here.
Here's to fulfiiling my first 10 day a day- Over Rated, you must let me know how you get on.

MrsCarrot · 25/11/2007 10:01

Morning all - hello to manchita and overrated.

I have half a mango, raspberries, blueberries, pear, apple and banana with toasted pumkind seed and rasin granola topped with berry soya yoghurt.

We did have some smoked salmon but I am craving fruit this morning, bordering on a cold, gravel throat. Hope I kick it, can't be arsed to have a cold this week. Dh is off work and we have loads to do.

Boco · 25/11/2007 10:02

Hello, Bee how did the work go - did you finish?

I'm having a cleaning and sorting day which is my worst kind of Sunday. The children are fighting and dp is in bed and i'd like to go OUT!

Boco · 25/11/2007 10:03

Blimey MrsC, that's an amazing breakfast.

MrsCarrot · 25/11/2007 10:07

Hi Boco - yes it was quite tasty, I often have that actually. I've got used to soya yog now and I prefer it. DD is harder to persuade, she's not having dairy because of her glue ear and she is missing cheese.

Have you deciced what to do about the table in the times thing?

MrsCarrot · 25/11/2007 10:08

I will be having a cleaning sorting week with DH, not my favourite kind of week either. This place is a tip. No clothes in drawers, mountains of papers, unwritten letters etc.

BBBee · 25/11/2007 10:09

MrsC unfortunately the cold won't ask you to check your diary to see if you can be 'arsed' - in fact they love it when you can't be arsed. Rest carrot and eat cake.

Boc - work went okay but I gave up at 2.30am - when at uni i went all through the night no problem and now I feel sick and tired adn I still have to work.

i will eat loads of clementines today - i bought them by mistake instead of satsuma. i am surprised to like them.

TooTicky · 25/11/2007 10:11

MrsC, I may invite myself round for breakfast one day!

We are going to collect 60 Agatha Christie books from a freecycler today. For dd1. Dcs also want to go swimming so am trying to combine the two. New swimming pool today I think.

TooTicky · 25/11/2007 10:13

Bee, I think the older one gets, the less one can do without sleep.

Boco · 25/11/2007 10:22

I've decided to do it only if it's as anonymous as possible - no mention of school name or mumsnet. Would be awful if people linked to here and saw who i was - would have to move! LV said i can see copy first so that's really good of her.

I have a problem with reaching 10/10 because i can't eat breakfast atm. I'm a bit stressed, and when i feel like this i just can't eat in the morning. I know it's a mistake but feel a bit sick if i try.

filthymindedvixen · 25/11/2007 10:22

Morning everyone - there was a last ditch attempt to persuade me to join the naked fairies but I am very glad with my decision. Especially having spoken to a friend who says ihho, the photographer is a creep

I am now peeling a zillion carrots in preparation for my maamoth sunday lunch and panicking as to how to fit sweet potatoes, parsnips, roasties and 2 chickens into my oven.

TooT, may I join you in Minority land for also hating brandy butter and not being especially fond of cream? I like melted butter but not normal butter IYKWIM.
BBee if I am up past 2 am it takes me days to recover {old fart]

FrannyandZooey · 25/11/2007 10:27

I want MrsCarrot's breakfast. I think I need a vegger to move in with me and make my meals. I just slept 11 hours and feel much better as regards tiredness, but am sort of drunk with sleep and have asked dp to make some breakfast, so it is toast and jam. Which is nice. I am going to see if I can beg a bunch of grapes and a slice of melon as well...

Bbbbe - it will listen, I have instructed it!

Boco - I think you're right, it must be anonymous and as long as you can check every detail before publishing. Is this adding to your stress? Not being able to eat is a bit worrying. Let me know when you fancy a lunch or trip into town. It's tricky with school times isn't it, I don't know how often the trains run. Unless you come on a Saturday and we go on our own?

filthymindedvixen · 25/11/2007 10:30

lol Franny, you really do want it don't you

Boco, best of luck darling, this is so wrong, it's just GOT to be sorted...

FrannyandZooey · 25/11/2007 10:30

Oh flip

welcome new people how is it going? I agree starting at breakfast is the key. Otherwise you have this terrible vegetable backlog by dinner time. HC once described her 10 / 10 meals as looking like a greengrocer's wet dream, and I think that's it, really. You just have to eat a heck of a lot of fruit and veg. Good luck

FrannyandZooey · 25/11/2007 10:32

Boco could you drink something like a banana milkshake whizzed in the blender? Or maybe sip it? I am not thinking of your 10 / 10 ness but just your general health and energy levels. I hope it improves soon - am following all the threads.
