For anyone who wants a boost to their general health. The suggested goals are:

EAT 10 PORTIONS OF FRUIT AND VEGETABLES EVERY DAY - if you don't usually eat much fruit and veg I would build up gradually or you could upset your digestion.

DO (AT LEAST) 10 MINUTES OF EXERCISE EVERY DAY - can be yoga, stretching or something more energetic. The plan is that the idea of doing 10 minutes is not too daunting, and having started you may well find you want to do more.

There are no restrictions on what you eat so long as you get your 10 fruit and veg as well. The focus is not on weight loss but on improving our energy levels and hopefully our general mood and well-being. Sign up below and post here to tell us how you're getting on and how you are feeling.

Basic guidance on what constitutes a portion of fruit and veg here and you can download more detailed information by following the link at the very bottom of the page

I've been having a cook-a-thon

DS & I have made choc muffins, banana loaf, soup, stewed apple, and now I'm making chard and tomato pasta sauce for supper.

DS has locked himslef in the loo and is up to no good I suspect

gizmo · 12/11/2007 17:24

What is it about little boys and loos? Is it some portal to a special boy dimension that we don't know about?

DS1 spends ages in ours. So does DS2, but that's because he enjoys tearing up the loo roll and stuffing it down the pan.

fullmoonfiend · 12/11/2007 17:26

Wanders in. Get confused. Are drugs being partaken? Wanders out again.

Oh, I have just made a gorgeous shepherds pie crammed with sweet potato, onions (red and white) muchrooms and carrots with a leeky potatoe topping. I am starving now.
(lentil soup, grapes, banana and apple for lunch. And orange cake )

IGW, I used to be a sub editor. I really miss my Pedant's hat. I am . Every now and again my boss (who has a much bigger brain than I, but not a pedanty bone in her body) lets me proof-read her reports as a special treat. But then, because she is my boss, I get too shy to point out all the errors .

fullmoonfiend · 12/11/2007 17:31

oh and before anyone comments on my literals, just DON'T. This is not work!

gizmo · 12/11/2007 17:38

I love it when the pedants let their hair down

By the way, for word freaks, has everyone seen Free Rice? It was in the pedant's corner topic last week but I don't think it got the exposure it deserved - it is headspinningly addictive.

Meanwhile, not a great day on the fruit'n'veg front for me: usual muesli (no fruit in the office to go with it), noodle/veg stir fry with much noodle and little veg, apple and raisin lattice pastry and a couple of satsumas.

But I have cycled to work, and to the middle of town (both about 10 minute trips) and I'm planning a run with the Hash House Harriers tonight. This will involve 60 minutes of running, interspersed with standing around on street corners gossiping while waiting for others to catch up, and topped off with another couple of hours in the pub gossiping afterwards. So there may be no dinner, beyond pork scratchings

IdrisTheDragon · 12/11/2007 17:43

Hello. Again.

I am hoping to catch u with my life some tiem this evening.

frothykindofadrink · 12/11/2007 17:50

oooh now gizmo

can you record yourself saying that and send me an MP3?

fullmoonfiend · 12/11/2007 17:59

gizmo, thanks for that link, I really need more distractions from getting anything done around here
I love it but it is upsetting me. I keep getting to level 46 then getting loads wrong and dropping a few levels...I shall be forwarding that on

FrayedKnot · 12/11/2007 19:51

Actually DS was just washing felt tip off his hands. With the door locked

This was afetr he had drawn a beautiful tiger face on himslef, and a lovely train in black felt tip on the kitchen floor.

Luckily they are ELC felt tips and wash out.

He has just got to that stage where he does things and then waits to see what I say when he denies all responsibility.

"I didn;t do it Mummy"

DH was late home and we had our usual pointless argument about him being late home

littlerach · 12/11/2007 20:00

Too fast again.

I love this title soo much.

But I also love twistin my melons maaaaaan.
(it is my ringtone on my mobile)

Lullabyloo, I get quite scared when I see the childrens' lunches at preschool. It isn't unuaual ot see lunchable packs, with a bag of crisps and a chocolate bar. And we have a healthy eating policy, but it is too hard to enforce. The staff end up putting half of each item out of the lunchbox, then ofering a bit of fruit form the preschool box.

Soooo.....foodwise.
Um.
Porridge and raiains.
Humous and salad sandwich, followed by cucmber.
Chocolate and ginger biscuits
Leek and potato soup.
Grapes.

I am stiil crap at this.

But, my skin is lookign a bit better, as is my hair.
And i am still trying to drink more water.

Intergalactic, nice ot see you here!!

ModestyBlaise · 12/11/2007 20:02

seeing food on here is about the nearest i seem to get to it at the moment

i have had two bowls of muesli today

and not any prospect of anything else i don't think..where does everyone get the time from/ oi need a big injection of it i think

VegetatingPossum · 12/11/2007 20:41

My frog-murdering-bastard land-grabbing neighbour has been putting down masses of slug pellets. I wish i could scoop up a few and pop them in his whiskey.

I have given up all pretence of eating enough fruit and veg. I should exit this thread followed by a bear, or at least a vengeful Franny (who does sound in a scary mood today. Sorry I offended you with my previous pumpkin moniker.)

Gizmo, I love the Free Rice site but I'm being a bit dense, what is the end point of it? I must have donated about a kilo of rice and the thing just kept on throwing questions at me, don't you answer a 100 questions or something then it times out? One could be there for hours!

ModestyBlaise · 12/11/2007 20:48

i am trying to think of a 10/10 chinese takeaway as that is what i am having now apparently lol

FrayedKnot · 12/11/2007 20:55

Have a veg chow mein Modesty

pinkspottywellies · 12/11/2007 20:58

I just phoned the Travelodge to make sure we're having a cot and they said you can't have a cot in a family room and they've got us down for a smoking room I have on my confirmation that it's non-smoking and she said 'just show them when you check-in' so obviously it's going to be all complicated Gah!

I had baked beans, salad, peas and cauliflower today, rubbish. And a Wispa mmmmmmmmm

Must go DH is most unimpressed that I'm using his laptop to go on Mumsnet.

Idris - play your go on Scrabble. (Anyone else want a game?)

lionheart · 12/11/2007 21:15

Gizmo--that site is pretty cool, very addictive.

lionheart · 12/11/2007 21:16

Possumm--the score goes up to fifty or something so you can just keep going.

pinkspottywellies · 12/11/2007 21:29

Franny, I've invited you to a game of Sc%*££le.

I'm off to bed, I'm very tired from all this wonderful sea air

frothykindofadrink · 12/11/2007 21:46

dh was sent to the health food shop with a list

instead of millet and rice breakfast cereal he has come home with millet flakes

I have no idea what to do with them they look evil

I have googled and it keeps telling me muesli which is no damn good I can't live without my oats of a morning

TooTicky · 12/11/2007 21:50

You can make porridge with them but they are quite different from oats. Maybe soak them overnight and go from there? Millet is very nutritious.

FrayedKnot · 12/11/2007 21:57

What sort of a room can you have a cot in then Pink!?

Have just discovered there are major engineering works at the weekend and it is quite possible that we may not be able to get a train

TooTicky · 12/11/2007 22:00

POSSUM - listen, your neighbour is probably breaking the law with the slug pellets. There are restrictions on use and it's actually not okay to leave piles of them, it should be one and then a certain gap before the next. Might be worth looking into.

TooTicky · 12/11/2007 22:01

Have you already bought tickets, FK?

FrayedKnot · 12/11/2007 22:03

I think it is OK but we will have to change and journey will take 30 mins longer

A*$&!

FrayedKnot · 12/11/2007 22:04

No, walk up tickets on th day are the cheapest for us anyway, so hadn;t bothered to look 'til now
