For anyone who wants a boost to their general health. The suggested goals are:

EAT 10 PORTIONS OF FRUIT AND VEGETABLES EVERY DAY - if you don't usually eat much fruit and veg I would build up gradually or you could upset your digestion.

DO (AT LEAST) 10 MINUTES OF EXERCISE EVERY DAY - can be yoga, stretching or something more energetic. The plan is that the idea of doing 10 minutes is not too daunting, and having started you may well find you want to do more.

There are no restrictions on what you eat so long as you get your 10 fruit and veg as well. The focus is not on weight loss but on improving our energy levels and hopefully our general mood and well-being. Sign up below and post here to tell us how you're getting on and how you are feeling.

Basic guidance on what constitutes a portion of fruit and veg here and you can download more detailed information by following the link at the very bottom of the page

More great news 3

Wow, this thread is fascinating tonight!

I grew up an only child, living with just my mum. When I was in my teens, I found out I had 3 half sisters and a half brother
I have seen barely anything of them because their mother resents my very existence or something. Which is ridiculous because I was there first She's quite odd actually, devoutly catholic but used to lock the children in the house and go out drinking with unsuitable types.
Anyway, I did stay with them for a night when it was my dad's funeral. After that, my letters didn't get answered. My brother moved to Jersey and kept in touch for a bit, but I think he moved or something. The sisters fascinate me. One was going to go into the RAF, one is handicapped and has such a lovely smile, the youngest, aged about 5, looked just like me at the same age. Goodness knows if I'll ever see them again. Sorry, this is long.

Thanks for help with shoe colours. I do quite like the ones shown, but a) if I can choose somethig different, then I want to. I like choice but find decisions desperately hard. and b) berry is like red and my mother is quite obsessive about red so I tend to avoid it.

MrsCarrot · 06/10/2007 22:42

That sounds like quite a saga too, Toot. You definitely don't want to think of your mother when you look at your shoes, so, how about brown and blue?

MrsCarrot · 06/10/2007 22:45

How about Peat and DeepSea, or Peat and Damson?

TooTicky · 06/10/2007 22:48

I let ds1 go to the post office by himself today for the first time. He set off with his scooter and his 93p, then returned some time later in tears and all shaky. He'd got nearly as far as the post office when he'd turned his head for a moment to look across the road and ridden straight into a telegraph post and fallen off his scooter. He'd then made his way home (about a mile) without going to buy anything. I never know if I am liberal or strict. Dd1 thinks I am draconian. Oddly, I feel much more confident about ds1 (8) being out than dd1 at the same age. Or possibly even now. And I can't work out if this is sexist or logical.

TooTicky · 06/10/2007 22:52

Hm, not sure if damson might be too dark. I'm liking deep sea... perhaps I should draw lots of shoes and colour them in to aid my thought processes....

Lullabyloo · 06/10/2007 22:54

deep sea are lovely
poor ds

TooTicky · 06/10/2007 22:55

Oh, I want some boots as well. Covet covet.

TooTicky · 06/10/2007 22:56

Oh hello LL, how are you today?

Lullabyloo · 06/10/2007 23:00

hi toot
am ok...just totally exhausted....lovely but busy day
are you still without heat?
did you make flapjacks?

I bought a pair of danish grey blue calf length lace up boots in Dartmouth...they look like victorian skating boots & I heart them

MrsCarrot · 06/10/2007 23:03

at first glance I thought you said calf leather boots, LLL!

Toot - they should have an interactive shoe chart like ecos paints then you could mix and match.

TooTicky · 06/10/2007 23:05

I didn't make flapjacks. I was too exhausted and it was too late at night to experiment. I put crisps in their lunchboxes dp had some in the cupboard. And they do normally eat very well.
Everything seems v. busy here atm what with HEing dd1, walking to and from school which is lovely but takes time, and I seem to be constantly in the kitchen. And no hot water of course. Sorry, I am moaning.

FrannytheDruid · 06/10/2007 23:07

I'm doing this party for potentially 28 children tomorrow. And I have been trying to ignore the fact all day that I have a sore throat. And now I just sneezed. Urk.

[mainlines elderberry extract]

TooTicky · 06/10/2007 23:10

I have a sore throat too, but I am not doing a party for 28 children tomorrow. I am Sensible. I will be taking 4 children to look for conkers (have exhausted local supplies) and then swimming.

MrsCarrot · 06/10/2007 23:15

Shudder at parties. That is why I am doing the un-10/10 holiday to wipe out any sniff of a party in one foul swoop. Like this - swish, swoosh, swipe, no pinata, no string, no ballons, no fun. Mwah ha ha.

How's the pavlova coming on?

ahundredtimes · 06/10/2007 23:16

I have made TWO! They look okay, I jettisoned the cornflour and vinegar though, I couldn't see the point of them. What is the point of them? Perhaps you none of you make meringues though?

I have to wait an hour now until they are done. Then I have to take them off the paper without breaking, but I shall use cream to stick them back together.

TooT - more He information please.

Boco - no, I meant I watched the trailer. It looked awful. I am going to see Michael Clayton on Monday though, with two friends, am looking forward to it.

LL - poor ds. Just as well he isn't going to come round here tomorrow. . .

MrsCarrot · 06/10/2007 23:20

um, I think the cornflour makes it light and chewy and the vinegar is to stop any grease being on the bowl that could stop it fluffing up. But I'm sure it's fine. Mmm, I haven't had pavlova for ages

MrsCarrot · 06/10/2007 23:29

I suppose I wouldn't have had them as I don't eat cream now, there isn't really a nice dairy free alternative to creeam is there.

ahundredtimes · 06/10/2007 23:34

No there isn't I don't think is there?I love cream. I am disgusting in so many ways.

MrsCarrot · 06/10/2007 23:35

Oh good.

MrsCarrot · 06/10/2007 23:35

I miss cheese.

TooTicky · 06/10/2007 23:36

HE is okay. It is challenging, timewise, and my mental space is much diminished. Dd1 takes rather a lot of cajoling at times but she is doing a project on Russia and we are reading aThe House by the Dvina together, and she is doing secondary school maths, my friend is teaching her music theory, she is reading Journey to the Centre of the Earth as a sort of geography/literacy crossover. She does a little domestric science and childcare and rides her unicycle. She wrote and performed a play for under 5s recently.
She is going to a HE music group with drum kits and electric guitars and microphones and things. I'm glad it's just for this year. Dd1 can be very high maintenance. There were whispers of mild Aspergers tendencies a while back and I am undecided as to whether to pursue this. I have done some reading and the tendencies are numerous but mild. Did you mean me to write an essay 100x or was it merely a polite conversational enquiry?

TooTicky · 06/10/2007 23:40

SoyaToo do a squirty cream and a whipping cream. I'm not overly taken with them but then I never liked cream anyway.
Redwood dairy free cheeses are okay sometimes in small quantities. The super melting mozzarella is good on pizzas. But then I have huge phases when I find them utterly revolting.

MrsCarrot · 06/10/2007 23:42

I put Oatly cream in a soup once, that was ok.

Oh, F is crying again, better go to bed. Night all.

ahundredtimes · 06/10/2007 23:43

Oh yes, I wanted an essay TooT. I think it's really interesting. How are the two of you getting on? Is she happier do you think?
