For anyone who wants a boost to their general health. The suggested goals are:

EAT 10 PORTIONS OF FRUIT AND VEGETABLES EVERY DAY - if you don't usually eat much fruit and veg I would build up gradually or you could upset your digestion.

DO (AT LEAST) 10 MINUTES OF EXERCISE EVERY DAY - can be yoga, stretching or something more energetic. The plan is that the idea of doing 10 minutes is not too daunting, and having started you may well find you want to do more.

There are no restrictions on what you eat so long as you get your 10 fruit and veg as well. The focus is not on weight loss but on improving our energy levels and hopefully our general mood and well-being. Sign up below and post here to tell us how you're getting on and how you are feeling.

Basic guidance on what constitutes a portion of fruit and veg here and you can download more detailed information by following the link at the very bottom of the page

Morning! Oh boy I ache big time this morning after yesterday's class. Damn that woman and her lunges!

Idris, hope dd has a lovely birthday. Nice to lots of last night.

I've just had melon (1) and smoothie (2). Might have some weetabix with plums (1) before we go to our new singing class this morning.

FrannyandZooey · 20/09/2007 08:54

Are we allowed to visit the commune? Or would you all shun us unless we commit to moving in?

Am feeling physically better - have had peach, grapes, raisins. Just depressed and restless, now. Arse.

3and I saw you bravely struggling on the lunch box thread. What a touchy topic.

Idris glad things are ok and hope dd has a good day/ I have 2 friends with birthdays today.

IdrisTheDragon · 20/09/2007 09:22

DD is happily playing with her doll's house .

I just read the lunchbox thread - seems quite cans of wormsish. I am wondering how what I send DS to pre-school when he stays for lunchclub would stand up to scrutiny.

Food is very much a minefield - I am lucky that I was brought up in a "healthy attitude towards food" type of way I think.

BBBee · 20/09/2007 09:48

happy birthday baby idirs- and idris I am glad you went and it was okay.

anyone heard from LL?

Franny - of course you can;t visit the commune it is not a zoo. Also there will be strange secret practises going on. You might be able to be co-opted in as a consultant but there will be 'rituals' involved.

glad you are feeling better - here have a banana (your face eating a banana) has lots of potassium and whatnot.

BBBee · 20/09/2007 09:55

mindbender - the happy song

BBBee · 20/09/2007 09:58

picture of a fruit hat

BBBee · 20/09/2007 09:59

anyone?

oh no - that means I have to go and do some work.

FrannyandZooey · 20/09/2007 10:08

LOL at the fruit hat

can someone clever photoshop my face into that picture "Bananas is my Business" hee he

Oh dear. Need a new project I think. What can we do to amuse me today?

SauerKraut · 20/09/2007 10:29

Thanks for tip re book. And Elizabeth Goudge is my all-time favourite. Have you read Green Dolphin Country? I was named after a character in it! (But of course am not remotely like)
Happy birthday Idris' dd, dolls' house sounds wonderful. We have an old one waiting to be done up, can't decide whether to let dcs loose on it or have carefully planned project.
Am plucking up courage to join 3 on that lunchbox thread- too chicken so far.

puppydavies · 20/09/2007 10:36

london dress looks fabby to me

lunch boxes are fun, i think i'm more bothered about sorting out dd's f&v than mine tbh. if she eats all her lunch today she'll have had 3 (raisins, fruit salad, juice) and i think i'll make a veg curry for tea.

did super well yesterday, did kebab wraps for tea with all the salads. am back into doing weighlossresources too (not restricting calories cos bf, but to keep a track of what i'm eating, fat/protein percentages etc.) and they reckon i did 10, so lets call that 6-7 realisitcally.

franny i deal with post-festie comedown by refusing to rejoin the real world for a while. i sort my photos and post them to flickr, browse other people's pics, read reviews, i've written my diary/review too, and go onto itunes and buy a few new tracks or albums. am currently listening to king creosote on my oh so blimmin lovely fancy pants new radio (ipod plugs in) and basking in all the loveliness of the weekend (while erasing all the sulks and tantrums in best revisionist fashion). should be able to string it out to next weekend at least.

oh and we're getting a much more extended reaction to jabs this time - a week to 10 days. not wanting to scare you, just reassure you it can be completely normal to go on longer than you might expect based on what they say.

FrayedKnot · 20/09/2007 10:52

Morning!

The only reason I am here is that DS was sick in the night and so not taken him into nursery today.

He is OK and has eaten toast, raspberries and an oat biscuit - despite my potestations that toast was enough he was terribly hungry

But he is very grumpy. Played toyshops, did half a jigsaw and then gave up, has ridden his bike for a few minutes in the garden and is now flopped.

Bbbee what is that bit about an explosion eroticism exactly

BBBee · 20/09/2007 11:00

here is a video of franny explaining the premise behind 10/10 and praising the benefits of fruit and vegetables in the diet (at about 37 secs in you will see her expression of surprise as the banana eroticism comes into play.)

FrayedKnot · 20/09/2007 11:05

lol if the wider world knew about those benefits, they would all be on this thread

BBBee · 20/09/2007 12:15

I am eating a tuna, caper, chickpea and beetroot salad - it is very nice - I put lemon adn black pepper and loads of salad cream on it.

I am taking DD to see angleina ballerina tonight at the theatre. It sounds good but am now suspecting it will be poncy and shit. Also (oh god) I am taking them both to toysrus after school as I siad I would get them something. I am doing that typical guilt buying present thing. I know it is wrong and you will all tel me it is wrong and my mum did a kind of face when I told her which means it is wrong.

basking in wrongness then.
oh and have just had some of the chick peas in teh salad - that is a bit wrong too.

filthymindedvixen · 20/09/2007 12:27

That sounds yummy BBBee. What are you feeling guilty for BTW? (And I'm not just referring to salad creamhere, obviously..)

I have had blackberries and bananas. For lunch, a salad and hummous buttie with an apple, some fruit juice and gingerbread.
Supper will be, spookily, a chickpea, peppers, tuna and leaves salad!

BBBee · 20/09/2007 12:42

I am about to start a course and kind of go from full time stay at home mum to a never there really stressed mum. Am supposed to be doing precourse assignments as we speak!

Love the dress - is lovely and very metropolis. I felt worried about my trip - I think as it is a prize and you havne;t chosen it or booked it it all seems a bit unreal and therefore stressful. Hope you are feeling more cheery about it anyways.

filthymindedvixen · 20/09/2007 13:13

It will be hard for you.
My boys are I think quite proud of me now I am like all the other mums and go to work and am studying I think before, he felt a bit cheated that ''mum just stays at home and bakes bread and grows veg'' Happily ignoring the fact that I was a volunteer for 2 different organisations and helped out at preschool etc....

TooTicky · 20/09/2007 14:21

Apple. Soup (beetroot, onion, potato, fennel, carrot, celery). Dd1 was arsey about soup, dd2 ate 2 helpings and said it was yummy.

pinkspottywellies · 20/09/2007 15:31

crisps 1/2 tomato (dd has taken to eating tomatoes, nectarines, apples - anything she can get her hands on really - whole. ie hold in both hands and take a bite and she'd eaten half the tomato before I realised!) cucumber, nectarine, brie and crackers

Don't know what to do for tea. Any ideas? (I have nothing in the house )

BBB good luck with the course. My mum retrained when my sis and I were small (having stayed at home till we were at school) and we were very proud of her

pinkspottywellies · 20/09/2007 15:32

oops brie and crackers

damn you all saw!

Boco · 20/09/2007 16:36

Hello. I'm so unbelievably tired this afternoon, the totally wrong kind of tired - i just want to go to bed right now. Picked up dd and felt like i was walking through glue. I was fine this morning, just the normal kind of tired. And my back hurts. I'm slightly worried i have a kidney infection as this is how i felt last time.

I met a mnetter this morning, she was very nice - FrayedKnot you know her - i didn't know that you used to live round here - or maybe i did but i forgot.

Grapes. And a flapjack. V.bad an shouldn't be allowed here today, sorry veggers.

FrannyandZooey · 20/09/2007 17:00

Boco that sounds awful. Can you get to the doctor's? Kidney infections are so unpleasant and left untreated can be serious (as I am sure you know)

[fret]

LOL at all crossings out

I haven't eaten much really, had lunch with friends which was nice. Told them of my general malaise and got advised to take two completely opposing plans of action. Hah.

BBB if it makes you feel better don't fret about the buying them things. When ds first started nursery I used to wander around town in a state of high anxiety, buying him things and phoning HC

Boco · 20/09/2007 17:07

BB i buy things for dds to make things better, and i often do feel better. Not sure about them, but they're often excited for up to half an hour afterwards!

I'm probably just being a bit neurotic, might not be that - but i had a kidney infection last year and i've never been so ill - for the first and only time not on drugs i actually hallucinated. Searched the house at 3am for a radio as i could here really clear voices - was all in my head - awful - had to have huge doses of antibiotics for weeks - 8 a day!. I don't feel that ill yet, just aching and tired, so could just be being a bit wet. I'll know by tomorrow.

FrayedKnot · 20/09/2007 17:58

Boco, I hope you are OK, kidney infections are horrible. can you get to the Dr tomorrow if necessary?

I think I only know one MNer in RL so I think I know who you mean! She lives in D and has two DD's? Yes I lived in and around that area for 30ish years, so it is officially home.

I used to buy a lot of things for DS and it was becoming a problem so I've stopped. he was allowed a treat on holiday but otehr than that I am trying to stick to special occasions etc.

I've had grapes, raspberries, dried fruit, big tuna salad, sweet pots, cabbage & carrots for supper.
