Feels like something is stuck in my throat

Help? I'm really fed up now. It's been 4 weeks of feeling like this. Literally feels like something is stuck in my throat. I tend to need to burp slot. I've been treated for acid reflux and it's still here and driving me mad. And to be honest really starting to worry me. Could it be hayfever? Though piriton is having no affect on me either. I've never had hayfever before but I have no other symptoms if it is.

Any tips or advice?

Thanks in advance

Could it be a hiatus hernia?

SpideyMom · 18/06/2020 10:53

I have no pain?

It could be hayfever. Mine is. I have post nasal drip coasted by hayfever and it’s SO ANNOYING!!! I can constantly feel mucus in the back of my throat and it affects my tonsils too. I also have cobblestone throat (google it and then look in your throat with a torch).
If you have no other symptoms of hayfever but you’re burping etc then hopefully it’s just post nasal drip caused by acid reflux

FoxyBadger · 18/06/2020 17:11

@SpideyMom just read your symptoms and I suffered very similar a few years ago.
My GP was dismissive/unhelpful but I was able to see an ENT specialist privately.
Had an endoscopy (not too bad with sedation) and was told I suffering spasms in my esophagus.
I was prescribed low dose amitriptyline and used Kolanticon gel for some months.
I have IBS and was going through menopause.
It was definitely anxiety related (the lovely specialist called it a perfect storm) withme suffering acid reflux without me realising.
I also had hypnotherapy treatment which was very helpful.
It is a catch 20 situation where the more you focus on it, the worse it gets.
It was worth every penny of the private treatment and hypnotherapy cost.
Good luck . PS, You can buy Kolanticon gel online. For me it was better than any other antacid.

Thank you. I will have a look for it online.

Hayfever has been covered and treated with different antihistamines but none of them helped

Hi I had this for years and after an endoscopy two years I was the same as a previous poster on here I had thrush/candida in the oesophagus.

SpideyMom · 19/06/2020 10:34

my appointment has come through for next Friday. I am nervous. The Endoscopy wont happen on my first appointment will it? I am due back to work on 6th July so I am really hoping to get this out the way before that

Probably will but that’s a good thing will put you’re mind at rest. Just knowing they are seeing patients makes me feel better. I know people who have had the procedure for different reasons and they all say it not painful or as bad as it sounds.

SpideyMom · 19/06/2020 11:34

If that's the case i need to find someone to look after my son as I don't want to take him with me

Have you got any family around, I’m sure under the circumstances the rules could be lifted. Which hospital are you going to? I

SpideyMom · 19/06/2020 11:46

Its the 1 closest to me. Problem is my family have all returned to work

Proudnana3 · 19/06/2020 11:55

Are there any child minders in you’re area they may have a bit of flexibility

SpideyMom · 19/06/2020 12:10

I will find someone. Its unlikely a childminder will take him for the sake of a few hours. I will have to ask my Mom to take leave from work

Try not to worry OP, mine was done on the first appointment and it is so much better to get it out of the way. It is not painful at all, just a bit uncomfortable and made me want to sneeze! Not half as bad as what I was expecting.

Once the registrar told me he couldn't see any issues, I honestly could have kissed him! All my symptoms (similar to yours) vanished after this with a little tweaking to my diet.

SpideyMom · 19/06/2020 13:00

Lol thats made me giggle. To be fair id rather just get it out the way so definitely need to sort care for my son.
How long did it take? Today I have the most awful sharp pain developed in my upper left chest. And feeling in my throat today really bad. I keep swallowing to get rid of it. Probably not helping

SpideyMom · 19/06/2020 16:52

it's actually making me feel rubbish today. I could cry

Have you tried the gaviscon advance? You could try asking you’re doctor for something like low dose Amitriptyline to help with you’re anxiety. Try not to think about it too much, hopefully by this time next week you’ll have the answer and you can put it out if you’re mind.

SpideyMom · 19/06/2020 18:40

I bloody hope so. Today has been horrible. I dont feel anxious though, but I think it has just become part of my normal state.
My throat feels tight. I get relief momentarily whilst eating. But now i have upper chest pain and my throat is feeling sore. This is the first time I've had a sore throat though. I'm now even pressing on my neck to see if I can feel something. Its driving me mad

OP posts:
Proudnana3 · 19/06/2020 19:22

Not feeling it when you’re eating is a really good sign my doctor told me that, try the gaviscon advance

SpideyMom · 19/06/2020 19:42

Oh really. That's a relief. I just want it to go for good. Do you find gaviscon helps?

Proudnana3 · 19/06/2020 20:02

It helped me more than the lansoperazole

SpideyMom · 19/06/2020 20:19

I've brought some. I hope it arrives soon

orangejuice1 · 19/06/2020 20:41

Hi OP just wanted to say that's a really good sign it's nothing serious that you get relief when eating. That's a big sign of Globus.

Mine is driving me mad today too and I feel convinced this afternoon that I can feel a big fleshy lump (mine is always on the same side too)

Hopefully you will get the results you want soon

SpideyMom · 19/06/2020 20:54

I really need to read up on globus but I'm relieved to hear again the relief when eating is a good sign. As I wrote that i started to question myself so got a snack and I definitely feel relief. Its only very very occasionally where I think I can feel it when swallowing. Unfortunately I don't get relief for very long.
Come to think of it, I've probably used food as a comfort throughout lockdown, not putting the two together.
Today has been absolutely awful though. The more I feel it the more miserable its making me. Today its felt like throats become really tight

OP posts:
Proudnana3 · 19/06/2020 21:53

I’ve read everything and getting relieve when eating is the best sign. Globus is the most likely cause but can be from acid reflux, allergies or anxiety that’s why doctors treat you for all those but even if it is one of those until you have it confirmed you brain will pay tricks on you
