Feels like something is stuck in my throat

Help? I'm really fed up now. It's been 4 weeks of feeling like this. Literally feels like something is stuck in my throat. I tend to need to burp slot. I've been treated for acid reflux and it's still here and driving me mad. And to be honest really starting to worry me. Could it be hayfever? Though piriton is having no affect on me either. I've never had hayfever before but I have no other symptoms if it is.

Any tips or advice?

Thanks in advance

Evening. No unfortunately not. I have good and bad days. Today being a very bad day. How about you

@SpideyMom I had been so much better. No reflux/chest/throat pain for 6 weeks but I've just had a flare today. I wish I could figure out the trigger...possibly having drunk champagne on Saturday night (I generally don't drink alcohol at all anymore)...or was it eating quite a cheesy pizza that sometimes I'm fine with. Who knows. But I'm back with a hot water bottle, drinking lots of water and apple cider vinegar and hoping it passes fast.

Hope you are soon getting more good days than bad days.

SpideyMom · 07/12/2020 20:47

Another bad day for me. I just want it to end.

Sorry youve had a flare up

Have you been referred to a speech therapist OP? For swallowing assessment? If not, that might be the next thing that should happen.

SpideyMom · 13/12/2020 21:27

Hi guys. Sorry I've not been on lately. The last few days have been awful with it. Its really me down.

I dont know what to do now. Its very unlikely my GP will be willing to do anymore. They were unwilling to refer me for the gastroscopy.

Im gutted about it now to be honest.

Hope everyone is ok

So I saw my gastrointerologist and the Hpylori came back normal and he's taken me off the esomprazole, which I was worried about. However, the feeling of the lump in my throat has gone, but I still have on and off pain on my right side at the bottom of the rib - the stomach is more to the left side of the body. He thinks it's muscolskeletal but can't be sure. Said there is no point in having an endoscopy (which I am partly relieved about), but at the same time, no closer to an answer. The conversation with him was all a bit vague and he touched on whether it could be fybromyalgia? I don't think he really knew, but suggested that I was sensitive to the pain and I was focussing on it! I told him straight up that I wasn't manifesting the pain as on rare occasions I have absolutely no pain for maybe half a day. He's now referred me to a rheumatologist, whom I will see in the new year. I'm not feeling very positive about it, but at least he's reassured me that there isn't anything sinister going on (although I can easily convince myself otherwise! Hmm. He's also prescribed me Amitriptyline (half a tablet a night) for the pain and to help with sleep. In high doses this is an AD and so far I haven't touched them because the pain has been manageable as well as I can't really afford to be drowsy in the mornings as I'm up around 6am.

I'm continuing with the Apple Cider Vinegar every morning anyway and I'm going to see my chiropractor (she suggested costochondritis). All very frustrating, but I should be grateful that it's not flaring up as bad as it was...but I know it's likely to come back. So far I have found whatever specialist I see is happy to wash their hands off you when they eliminate any issues after their diagnostic tests - I just have to keep pushing to try to get some answers - it's been going on too long and impacts daily life.

I wish you some comfort soon and urge you to keep pushing for an answer Wink.

@SpideyMom I just wanted to offer some solidarity. I have suffered with dysphagia for almost 2 years now: everything I ate felt stuck in my throat. It took a major panic caused by a stuck Nurofen capsule that finally forced me to seek help. I knew that it was in my throat: my DH refused to accept that & kept saying that I was “just” anxious 😡 I saw an ENT surgeon who sent me for a barium video swallow test. It showed that my swallow was ineffective & food was actually collecting behind the epiglottis (& so wasn’t just anxiety as I - and DH - had convinced myself). I’m now having SLT & after 1 session & 3 weeks of v simple exercises & swallow “hygiene”, I feel so much better. Not “cured” but so much more positive. I’m still specific food avoidant (anything too crunchy or difficult to chew) but I now understand that no matter how horrible the stuck feeling is, I won’t choke (my biggest fear, understandably) & my confidence with eating has increased. I’m experiencing significantly less of the stuck sensation & I am able to eat more solids now whereas a month ago I was on a purely liquid diet. I sincerely hope that you are able to find a solution.

Thank you. My doctor wont do any more. I feel so lost now. I hate it

A postnatal drip can cause throat symptoms . Have you tried a nasal steroid spray beconase or pirinase? Using it regularly for a few weeks might be worth a try

Mollylolly · 01/01/2021 14:17

Spideymum do you feel acid in throat after eating ? Also any mucus watery feeling in back of throat?

SpideyMom · 01/01/2021 20:49

It feels mucusy but after anything I eat and drink it feels like its narrowing

Hi

New to this thread but have been following it-

I have been in an ENT waiting list for over a year because of a feeling of water pooling in my throat. It's excess mucous that is continual ...
I can tell as I always have a wet cough and have to continuously clear my throat.

Anyhow, how been on PPI's , nasal sprays none of which did anything...then had a Barium Swallow test - (I had to demand this )....

This showed mild reflux , slow motility of food and oesophageal spasms- none of which explains the mucous problem....

I'm at a loss with it ....have not lost any weight and do not have problems eating so am not seen as urgent....

It is a continual worry for me and it's exhausting 😟😟

Hay. Just wanted to jump on and say that I am thinking about you. Not the same position but I have been suffering with pain in my ankle for so long 😔. I'm in that freak out place atm where I think it'll never go away and I'll never get my life back.

It was so bad on NYE that I had to get my daughter picked up by her Dad and she spent the night with him. Spent the night on the sofa crying in pain and feeling like a shitty mum.

Not trying to detract from u at all but I just wanted to let u know that I can feel the panic in you. I feel it too. So hard to keep your head together with something like this.

Sending u a hug x

When I had this it was tonsil stones (yuck!!) - I hooked them out with a pair of tweezers.

SpideyMom · 03/01/2021 16:44

@MillieMooBee oh god dont be silly. Its horrible isnt it. Whether you are suffering with what I am or what you are its horrible isnt it. I worry this will be with me forever. I often feel like a crappy mom as the sensation is so unbearable at times I become snappy and irritable.

Today is a horrible day. Pain in my stomach is so bad but thr thick white foam at the back of my mouth is relentless. Its making me feel so ill.

@GlennRheeismyfavourite ive wondered about tonsil stones but forgive me for being naive would they be accompanied by bad breath? I cant see anything other than white foam at the back of my throat

I cant cope with this anymore. Spent the last hour trying to make myself sick to open up my throat. I've had enough

Yes I get what mean about being snappy. I get the same. I have an appointment in the morning to try and get to the bottom of all this. Really hope they can do something.

I hope u are ok this eve.

SpideyMom · 03/01/2021 23:38

I hope you get some answers.

Unfortunately my night has been horrendous. I was sick and some pasty food came back up. Which gave me temporary comfort but could it mean that food is actually getting stuck somewhere? It hasn't helped today that in addition to having a horrendous day with my throat, the pain in my upper stomach has been equally ad horrible. No pain relief has helped. Ive been curled up in a ball alot of the day. I was on my kitchen floor telling myself 'you've had a gastroscopy there is nothing there' however these feelings struggle very real and very uncomfortable to me. I am really scared there is no way to go from here now. My doctor was reluctant to send me for the gastroscopy but did for my peace of mind. I feel its unlikely he will send me for anything else, or if there is even any way forward for me.

This is honestly ruining my life. If I could id try and stop eating altogether but the blandest of food and even water is setting me off. Its really upsetting me

MillieMooBee · 05/01/2021 07:57

How are you getting on? Went for my appointment and was given a different diagnosis to the previous specialist. I'll have to just with it and try treatment. Who knows if it'll work x
