Feels like something is stuck in my throat

Help? I'm really fed up now. It's been 4 weeks of feeling like this. Literally feels like something is stuck in my throat. I tend to need to burp slot. I've been treated for acid reflux and it's still here and driving me mad. And to be honest really starting to worry me. Could it be hayfever? Though piriton is having no affect on me either. I've never had hayfever before but I have no other symptoms if it is.

Any tips or advice?

Thanks in advance

I need to go back on my anxiety medication clearly. The withdrawals though caused the most horrific depression I've ever experienced

I had very similar symptoms last year and was convinced it was something dreadful. Had an endoscopy, omeprazole, chugged gaviscon like a kid drinking pop. Nothing.

Then I went low-carb (Fast800). Weight dropped off, and the feeling went away.

What does a day's food look like for you?

SpideyMom · 19/06/2020 22:24

I've been a picker most my life. I know its not ideal but its been pretty normal for me since I was in my teen.
I dont have breakfast. Tends to be just a coffee. Lunch will be a sandwich and some fruit, and dinner i will pick my sons leftovers if I'm not really hungry. I do pick through the day though biscuits, crisps and plain crackers

Yeah I was a grazer, but equally not really bothered by food. I sound evangelical about the Fast800 way of eating, but it has been a game-changer. Even just reading the book taught me so much about food and nutrition that I never learned at school or from home. I now (mostly!) eat two meals a day, with maybe a 'snack' of fruit and yogurt. And I know how crap I feel if I do succumb to a few biscuits or anything else carby. It really can make a difference.

SpideyMom · 20/06/2020 11:00

I've heard of Fast800 a few times but have never really looked into it. I will have to now. Its bad again today. I wake up ok(ish) and then it gets progressively worse. I'm sat here and I swear I can feel my heart beating so fast. Making me feel really uneasy

So glad I found this post! I’ve been struggling with this lump in throat for over 2months - mine causes pain in my jaw too. Agony after eating so I barely eat and I’ve lost over 2 stone.

I’m abroad so have private medical so have had so many tests - bloods, ultrasounds, CT scans etc

I was initially treated for reflux and take rabeprazole twice a day.

It was found I have a nodule on my thyroid. A biopsy showed inflammation and even though my thyroid levels are normal my thyroid is producing elevated antibodies. I’ve now been diagnosed with sub acute thyroiditis. It’s self limiting and my doctor thinks I’m over the worst and should be back to normal soon. He does recommend an endoscopy just to rule out any stomach issues but I’m so anxious about having one.

I really sympathize, I’ve found it incredibly hard and shed a lot of tears over it.

A couple of years ago out of the blue I developed a feeling in my throat as though I had the top bit of a peanut stuck in my throat. My GP sent me to see an ENT who checked my throat but it came back clear. The feeling continued and my doctor eventually gave me lanzaprazole and sent me for an endoscopy where I was diagnosed with a hiatus hernia. I have had several different tablets and the only one that worked for me is no longer produced. Recently the feeling returned when I switched tablets. I also have IBS and between the 2 am often uncomfortable with bloating, belching and passing wind. I sometimes get really bad chest pains as well. I always have a bottle of gaviscon and home and in my office at work. It is so very uncomfortable so you have my sympathy. Diet changes are supposed to help but I've really struggled. I was also told to eat small regular meals but due to my work and home schedule I struggle to do this.

Crimples · 21/06/2020 13:40

I’ve not read the full thread but I’ve had this twice, both for 6 weeks at a time. First time it gradually resolved itself. Second time I read something on here from another poster which really helped as I now think what I had was a slight hiatus hernia.
The tip was to keep a pint of water beside the bed at night, as soon as you wake up drink the lot in a one-er. Then get out of bed and either jump (hard) off a step a few times or raise up to your tip toes and slam down on your heels hard.
Sounds bonkers but the weight of the water in your belly and the impact somehow pulls the stomach back down away from the diaphragm. As much as I was sceptical I was at my wits end with it and thought it was worth a bash, did it 2 mornings in the trot, totally cured!
Obviously I’m not saying it will work in your case and medical advice is always the way to go but it’s a little harmless trick that might just work

SpideyMom · 21/06/2020 23:46

Thanks for your messages. I've been keeping mind off it trying not to worry. Its wheni feel relaxed I feel it mostly. When I'm busy I'm distracted.

So many people have gone through this. Its so unpleasant isn't it. I really hate it. Ive had it since March and I've had enough of it

Have you had any improvement with the gaviscon?

Autumn101 · 23/06/2020 16:04

So I’m off for an endoscopy tomorrow - so so anxious about it. I feel so run down with all this constant discomfort but I k is it needs doing........

I’ll let you know what it’s like!

SpideyMom · 23/06/2020 16:59

My Gaviscon hasn't arrived yet.

Oh @Autumn101, please do. I hope everything goes ok for you. Is it for similar reasons?

Autumn101 · 23/06/2020 17:04

Yes the lump in throat for over 2 months now, so fed up!!

SpideyMom · 23/06/2020 20:46

oh its horrible isnt it. Is this your first appointment? Mine is on Friday but I have no idea if the camera will take place them. I'm pretty scared

OP posts:
Proudnana3 · 24/06/2020 11:47

I’ve just been referred to ent too now, doctor said they may want to look down you’re throat with a camera when you go. Apparently it’s protocol to send you when you’ve had symptoms for over 2 months.

SpideyMom · 24/06/2020 12:21

Oh really. I wasnt told that, but it makes sense.

I still dont know if it will actually be Friday, though i hope it is to get it out the way.

Good luck today @Autumn101

Well I had it done with sedation and honestly it was fine!! Straight to sleep and had no idea what happened - stayed in recovery for a couple of hours and was given tea and toast. No pain or discomfort at all so far

I’ve had a swab for Candida but it showed GERD and polyps in my stomach probably from the PPI 🙄 they removed the polyps and doing a prescription for something else plus a referral to dietician to talk about a GERD diet. I’ve been eating healthily but having some veg which is on the list to avoid - who knew aubergines!!!

Proudnana3 · 24/06/2020 12:56

Did you know you were being sedated? Surely they would have to tell us that so we don’t eat before. I don’t have any stomach or chest problems at all just sensation of mucus in throat that moves around but no medication has relieved it. I sometimes think it’s a normal sensation I’ve just become over sensitive to but until it’s checked out I won’t stop thinking about it. Sm yes I think unless they think it’s something bad they just try all the normal meds first in the hope it will sort it but if you have no luck they refer you on.

Autumn101 · 24/06/2020 13:10

Yes I got called about the appointment yesterday so knew to fast beforehand.

SpideyMom · 24/06/2020 13:33

I sometimes wish I could opt for sedation. Its the thought of knowing what's going on and being able to feel it. It will feel like time is dragging. My dad has had to have a few and has said it feels like you are choking at times so that's made me worry. He has had chronic throat problems for years now so maybe he was more sensitive to it than others but I am scared. Sedation won't work for me anyway as I have to be out as soon as possible as my mom is having my son and going into work abit late for me

OP posts:
Proudnana3 · 24/06/2020 13:54

I didn’t know there was a choice, maybe it depends how far they need to go down. My brother had it not so long ago and he just had a spray put up his nose first, to be honest if he can do it anyone can. I hope my appointment doesn’t take too long to come through, doctor said there would be a back log due to COVID

SpideyMom · 24/06/2020 13:56

I was told that but cant believe how fast its come through

OP posts:
blueskys72 · 24/06/2020 15:44

I had to fast before my endoscopy, so if that not mentioned in your letter, you probably won't have the procedure on Friday! I had an appt with the consultant first, then the appt for the endoscopy a couple of weeks after that.

SpideyMom · 24/06/2020 16:15

Oh mines so terrible today. Its got worse since I came on here. Worrying is definitely contributing and now I cant stop thinking about it.

I've just had a look at my letter again and all it says is you may want to bring a friend or relative with you to accompany you to your outpatient appointment. But nothing else.

Part of me wishes it was done and out the way. I am returning to work soon and have already been told they will be abit annoyed if I return and have to start taking time off for appointments (single parent of a child who has a fair few medical appointments during his life so understandstandably its annoying). This needs to be done but I jave less than 2 weeks before I go back to work

Hi
I have been having the same Condition since the third week of March and at my wits end. It was so bad the first 4 weeks that I couldn't sleep or do anything. I met the gp 3 weeks back and it was diagonosed as Globus. Just on Omeprazole every day. Some days are manageable but some days are just horrible. I wish it would go away soon. But I was told that the underlying condition needs to be fixed. Hoping for things to get better rather than feel
Like a golf ball stuck in my throat or somebody holding my throat. Sad
