Feels like something is stuck in my throat

Help? I'm really fed up now. It's been 4 weeks of feeling like this. Literally feels like something is stuck in my throat. I tend to need to burp slot. I've been treated for acid reflux and it's still here and driving me mad. And to be honest really starting to worry me. Could it be hayfever? Though piriton is having no affect on me either. I've never had hayfever before but I have no other symptoms if it is.

Any tips or advice?

Thanks in advance

I remember seeing this thread earlier last year and reading with interest.

I now find myself in the exact same position, lump in throat feeling from about the end of November. I have been very worried about it and ignored at first. However over Christmas it has been constant. I've been sleeping with extra pillows for elevation and have been drawn to more bland food instinctively - avoiding tomatoes, apples, fizzy drinks etc.

Mine is always worse at night as well.

I finally mustered the courage to ring the GP today and they've asked me to go in this afternoon. He suspects acid reflux (I have no other symptoms of this) but said it could be a number of things.

It is a very uncomfortable feeling. I am so sorry you are still struggling with this spidey.

Hey guys. Sorry for my absence but still suffering. Doctor will not do anymore. Said it's down to me to try and find calming techniques that work for me and retraining throat muscles

Oh you poor thing. There's nothing worse than being told they can do no more for you.
How on earth do you retrain throat muscles Confused

SpideyMom · 24/01/2021 20:25

Exactly that. In a few months it will have been a year. Im so fed up

@SpideyMom hi there did you manage to get to the bottom of this? I’m currently feeling as if there is something stuck in my throat, it’s such a horrible feeling and making me miserable 😔 spoke to GP today who has prescribed meds for reflux! But I’ve convinced myself there is something stuck! I can’t stop swallowing or gagging

SpideyMom · 27/09/2021 23:57

@Happymumoftwo21unfortunately not. My investigations ended with the gastroscopy last year (I think it was) and as they found no real cause I was basically told they will do no more.
I STILL get the feeling now, and some days it's horrendous. But I have to tell myself to not overthink it because cameras and xrays found nothing. However I feel it so badly at times.
What I have found is sugar seems to cause my throat to feel like is narrowing. Something as little as a small sweet. It only has to be small and it will trigger my throat to feel horrible and tight. I know sugar is a trigger for me and I really should cut it out but I've struggled to, to be honest. Thankfully I don't eat masses but I am absolutely convinced anything sugary I eat or drink triggers my throat to feel like its got something stuck as I feel fine until that moment. The days I dont have anything sugary I feel OK.

Sorry you are feeling this way. Its really really horrible

@SpideyMom sorry to hear it’s not really improving. I feel like I should be visiting A&E as I’m convinced something is stuck in my throat! But even my husband isn’t convinced and said “oh it will just go away without you even noticing” Hmm honestly all day from the moment I wake up I’m either swallowing or gagging! Unless I’m eating then it isn’t there! How odd!

I've had this - I think it's related to acid reflux. Stopping drinking alcohol has definitely helped. Also at the moment cutting right back on sugar, bread, cheese, and trying to eat more veg and nuts.

I took Omeprazole for a week or two. You can get it over the counter from Boots but you are not to take it long term with out discussing with a doctor. It reduces the acid in your stomach. But as I said abaove less of the wrong foods (fatty stuff , bread and alcohol) has helped.

SpideyMom · 28/09/2021 09:15

I will add no medication has helped me.

My mom has it really bad too. She literally chokes all the time it's awful. She had to wait over 18 months to get the initial camera up her nose and they found nothing other than a small hole which they said is likely to he collecting food. So her next thing is a barium swallow to see if they need to close it. She cries about it alot and has had a few episodes of choking so bad my dad has nearly called an ambulance. Yet she is told nothing is there. No medication has helped her either. It's making her life hell.

It seems such a common thing and people are getting nowhere

You poor thing, you have been through so much with no answers.

It sounds to me as though it is muscular, I too had many problems with my throat which then extended to stomach and bowel problems.
Many investigations over the years nothing physically found. I now know through genetics it is a metabolic disease.

One thing I will say is to try and come off the medication if you feel it is not helping.
Could I ask if you suffer with constipation/diarrhea at all? My muscles in any part of the body can be affected by lactic acidosis ,its part of my disease, food high in magnesium can help.

If it could be attributed to this, one of the main things is to stop the build up of toxins that build up in the body/muscles, being regular in the toilet department, keeping off the pharmecuticals and learning to relax the muscles.
That can even mean not talking much to rest the throat muscles. My disease affects many muscles, my eyes and gastro mainly.

I could go on but I do understand your frustration as I was too in your boat with very few answers, but I knew there was something wrong.
I hope you find some answers.

Anyone yet mention the iQoro neuromuscular training device for acid reflux and swallowing issues? It's not cheap for what looks like a piece of plastic but the testimonials look promising.
