Today I have accepted that I must end my love affair with white wine.................

I adore it............consume it in bucket fulls and like a gorgeous man it takes over my life and leaves me feeling shite most of the time. Im fat, pasty , dry skinned and constantly tired and now it is starting to affect my work and home life. Yes I function very well and my children are happy and healthy cared for a lot of the time by a nanny as I work 60 to 70 hour weeks but I dont like myself very much and I know I could do so much better without this obession in my life.

So no more wine ( red or white ) or beer etc. Its gin and slimline tonics from now on and only at the weekend. Goes well with the weight watchers plan too.

Anyone else want to join me in suuport ?

The body if not the soul

sibble · 24/09/2007 21:01

not doing too well after a good start last week. went out for dinner Saturday night - bottle of wine. SUnday dinner with dh another bottle. Was planning on leaving it there but NO last night dh comes home and we pop the cork on another bottle . Problem is we belong to a wine club and 12 lovely bottles were delivered on Saturday. Too tempting. Revised plan now not to drink until the weekend when we head off to the beach. ds1 has a friend doing sleepover tonight so that's good incentive, can't be knocking the wine back with somebody else's child here.

ladylush · 25/09/2007 08:45

How is mummypoppins doing?

laloop · 25/09/2007 08:48

Sibble, just start again from tonight, you'll still have at least three alcohol-free nights until the weekend . Don't blame you for being tempted though, I'd have done the same if we'd just had a wine delivery! I struggled a bit last night too and almost poured a glass of wine as I sat down to watch TV after I put dcs to bed. Managed to abstain but ended up going to bed at 10pm, yawn .

ladylush · 25/09/2007 08:54

Agree with laloop - 3 wine free days is still good. I have a bottle of chablis in the fridge - bought at the weekend. I don't know how I am resisting it but somehow I am. I hope this resolve continues.

WaynettaVonSlob · 26/09/2007 07:49

After my wine at lunchime on Monday, thought I may as well have some more Monday night. Then last night I really wanted some red, so had some
I put it all down to no willpower PMT.

laloop · 26/09/2007 10:29

Waynetta, get yourself back on the wagon today and put the last couple of days behind you. I'm sure your weekly units have been much lower anyway since mummypoppins started this thread. If you feel like having some wine tonight, come on here and we'll give you a kick up the arse peptalk . I managed again last night despite looking longingly at the bottles of red in the wine rack. Roll on Friday...

ladylush · 26/09/2007 15:40

Waynetta - if you don't manage to abstain tonight you may as well write off the week and start again next week. Fool yourself into thinking you are ttc - that'll help

sibble · 26/09/2007 20:28

Don't worry waynetta, I'm in same boat am writing this week off. Although I have to say my consumption overall is definately down since joining this thread. I do think twice about having to confess online. Am trying to convince dh to join me next week, it's too hard when he cracks open a bottle of a night to say no - no willpower but at least we're not cracking open a 2nd .

Plan to start Sunday as we have 2 nights of bbq's planned with similar wine fanatics over the weekend. As somebody said earlier am starting and trying to drink wine for pleasure rather than relaxation - is working.

ladylush · 26/09/2007 22:20

Yes it does work I think. I have crap days at work most days so if I drink to unwind I am always going to be drinking! Of course, I could change my job but that's far too simple a solution

WaynettaVonSlob · 28/09/2007 07:30

Well this week is a total write off , although to be fat last night I did drinkg vodka instead of wine (but only because the only wine in the house was some rose and view that as more of a daytime drink .

So it's the weekend, and I'll be good again next week.
And if I come on here saying that I've had a drink, can someone please tell me I look bloated / am putting on weight? It's the one thing guaranteed to kick my ass into touch!!!

Have a great weekend!!

ladylush · 28/09/2007 09:50

Well I've been doing this for 2 weeks now. Drank wednesday last week and nothing this week (unless you count a beer that's 0.5% which I had last night as I was craving). Looking forward to the Chablis that has been in my fridge since last Saturday. Can't overdo it though as have to work tomorrow. Happy drinking everyone
Waynetta - good luck for next week. Before I joined this thread I'd have defo gone for the rose as I'd have been unable to leave a bottle unopened (unless it was red).

laloop · 28/09/2007 11:19

Well done, ladylush, you are definitely the non-drinker star of the week - am very envious of your will-power. Enjoy the Chablis tonight

It's the naughty step for me, fell off the wagon on Wednesday evening and opened a bottle of red after dinner. And finished it off last night, oopsy

Out tonight for dinner so that'll be another few glasses of wine, then hopefully will be staying alcohol-free from Saturday for a few days. Well that's the plan anyway...

Have a great weekend everyone.

ladylush · 28/09/2007 21:46

Thanks but it's cos I'm ttc you see - enjoying my chablis without guilt tonight though. I understand your plight cos once a bottle is opened it can't possibly go to waste can it Dunno if setting yourself up for alcohol free sat and sun is a good idea though. Seems a bit cruel to inflict that on yourself iyswim.

sibble · 30/09/2007 20:21

ok, got to the bottom of my wine craving alst week, was pre-menstrual. Does anybody else crave wine at that time of the month, I don't mean I'm psycho grumpy give me a drink(although dh might not agree ) but I really fancy and enjoy the taste of red wine, it has to be red too. I also crave childrens sweets - jelly snakes etc.... So with that weirdness in mind I will be good this week, despite the wine cupboard being full of lovely bottles of red which arrived over the weekend. Something tells me dh is not taking my quest for abstenence seriously!! It's now Monday morning here and I WILL NOT DRINK UNTIL FRIDAY. There I've said it. Oh and didn't have much over the weekend either, our meal with friends on Saturday night was cut short by the sudden vomiting of her 2 children and my haste to get my two home before they caught the bug. The anti-wine God was looking down on me - put that wine away you lush or I'll give your children the vomiting bug during half term

ladylush · 30/09/2007 23:48

lol - hope they evade the tummy bug. I had a bottle of wine over the weekend (spread over 3 days). Miss getting pissed tbh

laloop · 01/10/2007 10:46

Hi, I will join you all in a Monday morning declaration of NO WINE until Friday night! Here's hoping I do better than last week when I managed just three nights. It's red wine for me too here, I would rather have a cup of tea than most other drinks (except for the odd G&T). Weird.

Have a good week, girls

ladylush · 02/10/2007 14:09

In my 3rd week of booze free Mon-Fri and I am pleased to say that the cravings for wine have almost gone. Still look forward to the weekend obviously but not missing it in the week. Is it too early to celebrate my success? Hmm, probably How's everyone else doing?

DettaJnr · 02/10/2007 19:30

Read this thread with interest.

Trying to do the school nights free of alcohol also with varying success.

I find that sometimes I can be quite abstemious but only if I know that there is a bottle of wine in the fridge just in case. And once it's opened... There's no such thing as a half empty bottle of wine in our house. My husband drinks red and I drink white so it's a whole bottle or nothing.

Why do we think we need to treat ourselves with wine? Maybe we should replace it with something else, like putting the money that would be spent on wine towards some new clothes or makeup at the end of the month?

That's my plan. Good luck with this week everyone.

sibble · 02/10/2007 20:47

HI DettaJnr, welcome. I have an excel spreadsheet that I fill in each week working out how much I've saved to put towards something for myself anal I know, I love spreadsheets, use them for everything makes it feel official, ds1 even has one for chores and money earned rather than piggy box, this is because he kept taking the money out and losing it though. I have yet to work out what I really need to spur me on more I think. Also need dh to go out more and stop opening wine when he comes home. He now wants to go out for dinner on Thursday, said didn't fall in with week night non drinking he told me to 'get a life, just don't drink Friday'. Maybe getting just a tad obsessive?!?!?

Have re-read this post, will post it anyway but know sound like a nutter

ladylush · 04/10/2007 10:00

sibble you don't sound like a nutter honestly!

Dettajnr - welcome and hope you get some inspiration.

I had two glasses of wine yesterday as it was my granny's funeral. I don't count it as a lapse if it's an occasional thing. The most important thing to me is that I'm not drinking in the week the majority of the time.

DettaJnr · 04/10/2007 19:40

I have managed to steer clear of the wine and only had one bottle of beer last night which took me a couple of hrs to drink! (Unheard of)I thanked myself at one of clock this morning when DD2 decided that she wanted to sleep in our bed. (That's another story).

I am going out to a 40th b'day party on Friday night so am saving myself for then.

Good luck to everyone tonight.

ladylush · 05/10/2007 10:03

Enjoy the party. It is my drinking night tonight but I feel rough as I've got a sore throat and a cold. Probably got it on the plane. Oh well, will have to drown my sorrows anyway

How is everyone else doing? Everyone has gone a bit quiet.

ladylush · 06/10/2007 21:25

My friend and I drank 3 bottles between us It didn't seem like that much but it sure felt it today.

laloupgarou · 06/10/2007 21:40

Hi ladylush
I managed Monday to Wednesday, no problem. Had a couple of glasses on Thursday night and had a few glasses last night too, eek. Have had a small glass of wine at birthday party today. Not sure if I'm going to have anymore today. Back on the wagon from tomorrow again.
