I adore it............consume it in bucket fulls and like a gorgeous man it takes over my life and leaves me feeling shite most of the time. Im fat, pasty , dry skinned and constantly tired and now it is starting to affect my work and home life. Yes I function very well and my children are happy and healthy cared for a lot of the time by a nanny as I work 60 to 70 hour weeks but I dont like myself very much and I know I could do so much better without this obession in my life.

So no more wine ( red or white ) or beer etc. Its gin and slimline tonics from now on and only at the weekend. Goes well with the weight watchers plan too.

Anyone else want to join me in suuport ?

Well done everyone.

I have managed 2 nights without booze however Saturday & Sunday I drank enough units for two weeks , so felt extremely rough all day Monday and Tuesday felt tired so had an early night. Tonight will be the test as I am feeling OK today - I would like to wait til Friday though. I have made a rule for myself - no boozing on a School night.

WaynettaVonSlob · 19/09/2007 13:20

hello!

Work really busy and stressful, so it's been very difficult not to have a drink in the evenings, but I have managed so far this week.

Well done to everyone else, especially MummyP!

ladylush · 19/09/2007 18:20

Yes - well done everyone. I had 4 alcohol free nites which I was very proud of then dh and I went in to London today for lunch etc and I had 2 glasses of rose and later on a glass of chablis. Not feeling disappointed though as my new philosophy is to drink for pleasure rather than to unwind. That means I won't be drinking much as I am more wound up than I am not

BarbieGirl · 19/09/2007 18:52

OMG I am so weak just cracked open a bottle of red .

Good luck to the rest of you.

RosaLuxembourg · 19/09/2007 21:12

Have not had a drink since September 2. Nor has DH. We are both slightly annoyed that we don't FEEL any healthier, but have to assume that our livers are seeing the benefit.
Oh, and I've lost 5lb.

sibble · 20/09/2007 02:33

well another night with just the bottle of beer dh told me off for drinking out the bottle - told him he was a snob and better than swigging out of a wine bottle . won't have anything tonight and then in an attempt to be good am driving tomorrow night on a girls night out. dh thinks I'm mad taking the car but I have absolutely no will power after the first glass and have a big day Saturday. Plan is to join the weekend only drinker. Have also started milk thistle in a bid to help the liver. Dh said it's going to take alot of milk thistle - cheek. Good luck tomorrow everybody.

WaynettaVonSlob · 20/09/2007 07:19

Well done Sibble. Fully uderstand where you're coming from re:agreeing to be the driver - I sometimes have to compensate my willpower and to that to.
Rosa - 5lbs in 3 weeks? ? Fab!
Ladylush - like that concept of drinking for pleasure rather than to unwind....it ties in with trying to 'untrain' myself from the association of 'crap day = must have glass of wine'. Having said that, not too sure I'd be any good at it !!
One more evening till the weekend!

ladylush · 20/09/2007 11:33

Well impressed with the 51b weight loss Rosa [admiration emoticon] Hope I get some weight loss too. Have joined a health club and swam 30 lengths Monday, will go tonight and Sunday. Think that will be about one and a half miles. That should shift some inches too if I can keep it up.

Waynetta - yeah me too. I have a stressful job (like a lot of us) and come in strung out, do the whole dinner, bath and bed routine for ds then as soon as he's in bed I'm pouring a glass of wine. Then it's all too easy to pour a top up - which is more like another glass but I con myself that it's just a top up. I realised that I was regularly drinking way in excess of recommended weekly limit.

I bought some bitter lemon mixers to go with vodka as a change - will have some at the weekend. It is definately wine rather than alcohol that is my problem. I was reading that many people who crave wine have unstable blood sugars and they crave wine because it has a lot of sugar in it.

RosaLuxembourg · 20/09/2007 14:54

The wine-sugar thing makes sense. Have to add, as well as giving up alcohol I have also given up sugar. I have a huge sugar addiction problem and when I am in a binging phase I can pile weight on really quickly - over a stone in three months recently. I'm sure the wine thing is part of that too.

sibble · 20/09/2007 20:55

ladylush, like the sugar theory, as I said earlier, for me it's just wine too. makes sense. when I was pregnant both times I lost at least a stone in the first trimester pretty quickly when I gave up the wine. it really does pile on teh weight. luckily I don't have heaps to lose but did feel healthier earlier in teh year when was 5lb lighter.

WaynettaVonSlob · 21/09/2007 08:41

May I just say..........
IT's FRIIIIIIIIIIIIDAY!!!

Had a big stuggle not to have a drink yesterday, but I managed to get through the evening and am grateful for it this morning!!!

HAve a fabby weekend everyone, and look forward to your updates on Monday.

laloop · 21/09/2007 13:05

Hmmmm...well, not sure how happy I am with my consumption this week, didn't have anything Sunday, Tuesday or Thursday. Opened a bottle of red on Monday, drank roughly about half and then finished what was left in it on Wednesday evening. So have had about 9 units so far this week, and now it's the weekend. Would have liked to have been totally alcohol-free during week. Ah well.

Have a great weekend everyone.

TiramisuTartsandPiesInOrbit · 21/09/2007 13:15

Hello,
I am Tiramisu. I am addicted to Chablis, and I also love a good Chardonnay, umm, and also Pinot Grigio, and.... Ok.... I shall stop now. I have not touched any since saturday a week ago. Today I bought myself one of those tiny little bottles that have enough for 2 small glasses of red wine. I "shall enjoy" it tomorrow. (As much as it is possible to enjoy cheap plonk)

ladylush · 21/09/2007 15:44

Shall we do stats to motivate ourselves. Might keep us from falling off the wagon (weekends and odd days excepted of course)Everyone is doing really well.

Week one:
Ladylush - 3 glasses of wine (weds)

WaynettaVonSlob · 21/09/2007 20:15

What's a week? I'm doing 8pm Sunday till whatever time Friday.

And I think I may be undoing all my good work with the exceeeeeeeedingly large cosmopolitan I have just made myself....

sibble · 21/09/2007 20:56

I don't want to be disappointed with myself because my consumption levels have been a fraction of my usual weekly consumption levels but I did drink every night no will power. But I scarily worked out that if I was drinking nearly a bottle every night 7 nights/week that was 42 units that's unreal when you put it like that, so this week I have had 9 units so I am pleased and will try harder next week which is the beginning of school hols here so fuzzy alcohol heads will not be good with my 2 nutty boys . Have godo weekends everybody.

ladylush · 22/09/2007 13:23

Sibble - drinking every day is fine but for me it's hard to stick to just one. You did well to drink 9 units. I probably did that in two days and they say it's safer to have one drink every day than to use up your units at the weekend.

Waynetta - Sun - Fri is fine by me. That excludes the 2 double vodka redbulls I had last night Is it one unit in a measure? So would a double be 2? Unfamiliar with spirits (ghosts too!). If so I have had 3 glasses of wine and 2 doubles this week. That is f***g excellent for me

Aren't we doing well. Personally, I am happy to just be drinking less than 14 units a week though with ttc I have to aim for much less than that.

ladylush · 22/09/2007 13:25

Oh and if I lived in NZ I think I would find it very hard not to drink every night what with all that lush wine on tap

ladylush · 23/09/2007 20:05

I had half a bottle of white wine today. Met some friends in town and went for a meal. No feelings of guilt as it's the weekend. Geared up for a booze free week now. Good luck everyone - whatever your reduction regime is

laloop · 24/09/2007 08:59

Morning all

Will be doing my very best to remain wine-free this week. No alcohol yesterday so off to a good start. Have found that I tend to have dinner earlier now, stops me falling into habit of pouring a glass whilst cooking! Good luck everyone for the week ahead.

WaynettaVonSlob · 24/09/2007 14:58

Does drinking at lunch time count?
DH is never in Canary Wharf, and was here for a meeting today so we went out to lunch, and it seemed a shame not to have a little teeny glass of wine........now I'm trying to decide whether to write off today or start again....

ladylush · 24/09/2007 18:35

Waynetta -how lovely - it's a shame not to indulge when you get a rare lunch together. That's what dh and I did last Wednesday.

Laloop - I have found that I'm eating my dinner earlier too and I agree that it helps. Better for the metabolism too. We used to eat after 9pm some nights - not good!

How's everyone else doing?

wheelybug · 24/09/2007 18:36

forgot about this thread but just wanted to proudly say I have managed not to drink mon - thurs for 2 whole weeks. Having some at weekends but not too much (well half a bottle.... )

ladylush · 24/09/2007 18:40
