Today I have accepted that I must end my love affair with white wine.................

I adore it............consume it in bucket fulls and like a gorgeous man it takes over my life and leaves me feeling shite most of the time. Im fat, pasty , dry skinned and constantly tired and now it is starting to affect my work and home life. Yes I function very well and my children are happy and healthy cared for a lot of the time by a nanny as I work 60 to 70 hour weeks but I dont like myself very much and I know I could do so much better without this obession in my life.

So no more wine ( red or white ) or beer etc. Its gin and slimline tonics from now on and only at the weekend. Goes well with the weight watchers plan too.

Anyone else want to join me in suuport ?

Morning girls!

Well I made it!!!
Feeling much better, and am even thinking about not drinking tonight but I don't want to get ahead of myself

I am so glad this thread is here - it's like a little voice nagging me all the time, and making me do this, so thanks to the two LLs for keeping in alive.

Have a lovely weekend, and talk to you on Monday.

laloupgarou · 12/10/2007 08:56

Well done, Waynetta. Enjoy your weekend and see you back here on Monday. I'm out on Monday night so I'm going to try to be good over the weekend, will see how it goes...

ladylush · 12/10/2007 11:16

Well done everyone. Have a great weekend and report back to base during the week. Hopefully mummypoppins will join us too and come out from the lurking room (sorry, didn't get the virgin cocktail recipe did I will get on the case. I can recommend a good low alcohol beer though - tastes nice. It's called Marke Clausthaler (they sell it in Waitrose). It's got less than 0.5% alcohol in it.

DettaJnr · 13/10/2007 09:29

I've had that beer and can recommend it. I'm also glad that this thread is here for the same reasons. Have a good w'end.

WaynettaVonBlood · 16/10/2007 09:01

How are we doing? I managed to do the weekend booze free, but mainly because I was too ill to drink [shcok] and it wasn't alcohol induced

Here's to another week......

laloupgarou · 16/10/2007 09:05

Hope you're better soon, Waynetta, well done. I had a few glasses of wine last night because I was out at Take That concert. But that's it for the week now.

WaynettaVonBlood · 16/10/2007 10:27

Take That???

Were they fab??

laloupgarou · 16/10/2007 11:00

Ohhhh Waynetta, they were fantastic...looked great, sounded great, stage sets were brilliant. Have lost my voice with all the singing (and lovesick screaming at Jason and Howard)

I have avoided this thread for the past week as not been very good lately, not helped by yesterday being my birthday. Dh came home with a very nice pinot noir, am sure we didn't need to pop the cork on the second bottle but at least we didn't finish it and didn't have a fuzzy head this morning but am starting to feel the bloat again. SO it's back on the wagon. Have re-started session with a personal trainer so need to save $40 from wine purchase to pay for it (that's my incentive). Also need to detox seriously before friend arrives from Wales in 3 weeks. She is looking forward to taking in some NZ wine tours while she's here and as nice as it will be, I don't fancy my abstenence chances for her 12 day visit. My liver probably needs t rest in anticipation.

But well done everybody else you are doing so well. I am envious or perhaps you should be my inspiration.

laloupgarou · 17/10/2007 09:07

Happy Birthday, sibble. Start afresh this week, sounds like you're more motivated again. No wine here last night although cutting down the wine at beginning of the week hasn't really been the difficult part...it's Thursday and Sunday that cause me the most bother!

All the best for today everyone.

000Laura000 · 17/10/2007 12:51

To those who are interested in reading more about alcohol and drinking I can thoroughly recommend two books.

One is a memoir, "Drinking. A Love Story" by Caroline Knapp.

The second is a novel "Paradise" by A.L Kennedy.

The central characters in both are women.

Didn't do too badly the last couple of nights so giving myself big pats on the back. I think, however, I shall allow myself to have one glass this evening as still have school run etc tomorrow. I found that now that I am more conscious of what I am drinking I didn't drink too much over the weekend.

Where's Mummypoppins? We havn't heard from you for some time?

Good luck to everyone.

ladylush · 18/10/2007 04:16

Belated happy birthday Sibble I don't think I would manage to abstain if a mate was visiting me either.

Laloup - glad you enjoyed the concert. Well, I think I have actually cracked it. I do still fancy a glass during the week but I tell myself I don't do that and it's fine. Obviously, I look forward to the weekend though - that goes without saying

Waynetta - hope you are feeling better now. Off wine, sick.........? Yes, alright I know I'm obsessed with pregnancy

Mummypoppins - how are you?

ladylush · 18/10/2007 04:19

Laloup - interesting that you find Thurs difficult as for me it's Monday and Tuesday. Sunday I tend to drink anyway - though more frequently at lunchtime than in the evening. Only a couple of glasses though.

Detta - glad it's all going well with you.

Laura - those books sound interesting.

mummypoppins · 18/10/2007 10:06

Im very smug actually...........Ive done 2 nights which is a miracle for me.........bring it on !

I feel so much better its untrue.

On holiday next week but think I will find it easier to abstain tbh.

Well done all of you...I am glad I started this thread.

ladylush · 18/10/2007 18:45

Woo hoo - well done mummypoppins, you have every right to feel smug You will find it easier the longer you keep it going. The first two weeks are the hardest imo.

sibble · 18/10/2007 19:13

ok if any of you are looking at the bottle tonight thinking shall I shan't I...here's good reason not to...last night dh again tempted me with a rather nice bottle of red and armed with a belated bunch of flowers for my birthday (I'd told him not to get me anything we've spent too much money lately) anyway one bottle turned into two and this morning I feel eurgh - queezy stomach, foggy head, have to get boys off to school and day care and have full on day at work.

So girls if tempted take heed and put the cork back in or stick to a glass or two what seemed like a very good idea last night doesn't seem so smart this morning that's the colour of me

WaynettaVonBlood · 19/10/2007 08:01

Morning everyone, and well done!!!
I've had a tough week and nearly caved a few times, but the nagging voice of this thread made me stop

Am looking forward to an epic sporting weekend, a long walk in the park and a cheeky little glass or two.

MuumyP - well done, and have a great holiday.
Sibble - belated happy birthday and hope you feel better later on.

ladylush · 19/10/2007 09:01

Well done waynetta. This has been a good week for most of us Looking forward to a nice cold glass of white tonight - or two. Got a hen party tomorrow so expect lots of alcohol will be on the menu. What a shame

mummypoppins · 19/10/2007 09:07

3 nights and counting and I feel much better. Its tough I wont deny it but its all about getting your head in the right place!

Well done all. I will be away for a week now in sunny Cyprus so call in when I get back.

Stay strong!

Well done again mp. Enjoy your holiday in sunny Cyprus Ps Avoid the ouzo (sp?) I got so violently sick on that several years ago that I think I may still be traumatised

DettaJnr · 19/10/2007 12:34

Well done everyone.

I am afraid that I had three glasses last night but drank three glasses of water with them so no hangover today.

MP I don't suppose you have room in your suitcase for me?! Hope you enjoy your break, you deserve it.

Hope everyone has a good w'end and Ladylush enjoy the hen party.

mummypoppins · 19/10/2007 14:10
