he was in a lot of pain yesterday which has not improved today. he is much more confused so it is difficult to find out what is going on. his sight is much worse too and he is quite wobbly.
The doctor phoned the hospital and talked to them about it. the doc has given him a morphine injection and he is to go back on the steriods, which he has just been weaned off. the doctor will phone in the morning to see how he is. he is tucked up in bed now.

Thinking of you OJ.. and hugs to Steve too (whether he wants them or not!)

Hope tomorrow is a better day.

LilyLoo · 08/09/2007 21:18

OJ i'm not sure if they have told you there is a max dose for the steroids. We were told 8 and each time they were upped things did improve for a few weeks.

RTKangaMummy · 08/09/2007 21:22

steve has gone onto 4mg which was what he started out on before his op

OP posts:
LilyLoo · 08/09/2007 21:29

sorry i can't remember the strength but i do know that they were really effective in managing the pain and discomfort initially without any treatment so hopefully if they keep him on them things may settle down a bit more. What does that mean in terms of treatment though as i remeber you saying they wanted him off them to start treatment.

onlyjoking9329 · 08/09/2007 21:33

i don't know why they wanted him off them to be honest, from what i have read they can cause problems in the long term, as steve doesn't have a long term then i don't think it matters does it.

OP posts:
Blandmum · 08/09/2007 21:35

Dh was taken off them as they were affecting his tumour induved diabetes. And since at that time the diabetes was killing him faster than the tumour, he can off them.

It is the not knowing that is the hardest thing.

LilyLoo · 08/09/2007 21:36

i agree the main thing is keeping him as pain free and as comfortable as possible. Hopefully you will see an improvement as they start to help, it is frightening how quickly they come to rely on them to function though, i hope your doing ok OJ though it's such a terrible time.

onlyjoking9329 · 08/09/2007 21:39

4mg isn't a massive dose thou i have seen on the brain tumour forum much higher doses.

So sorry to see this OJ, i do hope steve and you get some sleep, i will pop in later to check on you

Pickie · 08/09/2007 22:34

OJ Am so sorry to hear this if there is anything I can do please do let me know.

Also I think you are coping extremely well and you are doing what you can however little that is in your opinion but it isnt!.

My DH is recovering from a brain bleed (no where near what Steve is going through) amongst other injuries. The change in a person you love so much is dreadfull and you feel so helpless because you cant help and they cant communicate it!

I really hope you will find out more next week re re growth and get some more direction.

take care

magnolia74 · 08/09/2007 22:40

I hope Steve has a comfortable night xxx
And you get some sleep too xxx

OJ - really don't know what to say......

onlyjoking9329 · 08/09/2007 22:48

there is nothing anyone can do as such other than letting me vent really and i know i have been doing rather a lot of that recently

OP posts:
BecauseImWorthIt · 08/09/2007 22:49

I think you are entitled to vent as much as you like! If by doing so MN can help you then we will all be pleased.

Pickie · 08/09/2007 22:52

You need to do what feels best for you & Steve plus the kids and if that means writing it down so be it! Good girl!

Oh OJ, this must be so hard.
I don't quite know what to say, but wanted to let you know that I'm thinking of you.x

BecauseImWorthIt · 08/09/2007 23:10

Onlyjoking - are you looking after yourself properly? Would it be worth getting something to help you sleep?

You need to make sure that you're being kind to yourself as well as looking after Steve and the rest of your family.
