For anyone who wants a boost to their general health. The suggested goals are:

EAT 10 PORTIONS OF FRUIT AND VEGETABLES EVERY DAY - if you don't usually eat much fruit and veg I would build up gradually or you could upset your digestion.

DO (AT LEAST) 10 MINUTES OF EXERCISE EVERY DAY - can be yoga, stretching or something more energetic. The plan is that the idea of doing 10 minutes is not too daunting, and having started you may well find you want to do more.

There are no restrictions on what you eat so long as you get your 10 fruit and veg as well. The focus is not on weight loss but on improving our energy levels and hopefully our general mood and well-being. Sign up below and post here to tell us how you're getting on and how you are feeling.

Basic guidance on what constitutes a portion of fruit and veg here and you can download more detailed information by following the link at the very bottom of the page

Hello! I'm here but haven't been posting this evening as noone else was here!

IdrisTheDragon · 01/09/2007 21:59

There were some vegetables in our supper. This is good.

I don;t feel I am a proper 10/10 person yet, but will keep on trying .

FrayedKnot · 01/09/2007 22:00

Hullo pink & Avi!

Well I'm going to disappoint and got to bed in a moment...

Avi I have some thoughts about your posts earlier about your DS but tonight I vcan barely string a post togetehr so probably best left 'til tomorrow.

I hve eaten some pistachio nuts and I'm sure they don;t count.

I am going to ahve a comfort bowl of cereal now and go and dive under my duvet

NotReallyHerePossum · 01/09/2007 22:05

well, I now have a reminder why I try for 10/10 and to be generaly healthy. Poor LO is on ABs as his rash got a secondary strep infection. I've been wondering why he has been exhausting to put down for a nap - every single nap - for the past two days. Then the penny dropped. I have no additives in my diet nor he in his. I have to finish the AB course but the poor love is literally bouncing off the walls. He head butted me tonight and gave me a split lip - totally out of character. There are additives in baby medicine that are banned in food for the under 3s
Anyway, apart from that, I am 10/10ing, I have been a total idiot, i didn't twig that seeds and lentils/pulses count, so actually I have been doing 10/10 quite easily.
God my head hurts, DS really whacked it, I only hope his poor bonce is ok.
Wombling, poor you ending up in A&E

lionheart · 01/09/2007 22:06

Am here and trying to up my intake ...

NotReallyHerePossum · 01/09/2007 22:19

Avi, I'm a little confudes, why does it matter if your DS looks at diggers and aeroplanes with his daddy? You can balance it with other things? - like the kitchen? sorry to be dense, not sure why it upsets you so much?
I am pondering the nature/nurture, people react differently to a child from birth depending on its gender, hold it differently, expect different things of it when it is hurt, so by 11 months I'm not surprised DS is already being what society construes 'boy-like' i.e. he has absolutely no interest in cuddly toys and plenty in things with wheels and destroying things There was a very good book written about this topic by a German woman but my head hurts so much the title escapes me. Will struggle to remember. She attempted to bring up her daughter in a 'genderless' fashion but was defeated by relations/friends/randon passers by around her, and the advertising industry and her DD's peer group etc etc.

MrsCarrot · 01/09/2007 22:25

Oh dear, Possum. I always forget how old your lO is? Trying to remember all the dc's ages on here is impossible. Will you give him pro-biotics afterwards? You can get it in powder form for infants.

Well, we have an enormous bag of samphire and the car stinks of the sea. At first we were picking tiddly bits by the path then I noticed DH and Ds1's heads poking out of a dyke and they'd found a whole bed of it, huge juicy stems. We will have it tomorrow as we went to the nearby pub for dinner. I had delicious roasted veg and sweet potato chips, whitebait, and mixed veg. Also pecan pie. Yum. If you've never been there you must go. Huge skies, miles of purply marsh and hardly anyone around. The children crab off a little bridge too.

Dh has gone to a Brazilian night thing as he got a text from a friend when we got in at 9.30. Never mind leaving me to put them all to bed even though he's working away for a few days from tomorrow. How annoying is that? I mean, I know he's WORKING but still, I am huffy about it and threw his slippers after him. I would like to go the arts centre for a Brazilian night.

NotReallyHerePossum · 01/09/2007 22:28

Mrs C (now forever Guadaloupe to me, the sultry minx of the Norfolk salt marshes ) DS is nearly 11 months, about 4 months older than your LO - speaking of whom, how's his ears?

MrsCarrot · 01/09/2007 22:34

Ah yes, I get confused with one who's a bit older and one who's younger. Is it wombling with one around 3 months, and PSW has one the same age? Too many numbers for me!

You must forget Guadalupe, she has gone with her big thighs, clumpy skirts and slightly sickly smell! Perhaps she has gone to the gig with dh. Not that carrot is any more graceful.

The ears seem a bit better today but dd was up in the night with it too and I'm quite tired. His teeth are about to pop through so that's not helping. He has his first ever sore bottom as well.

NotReallyHerePossum · 01/09/2007 22:36

aaarh, teeth and sore bottoms, why is it that teeth set so many other things off? DS's eczema-ish rash, now infected, was triggered by the mammoth 5 teeth in two weeks episode recently.

MrsCarrot · 01/09/2007 22:42

I'm not sure. Is it the extra saliva they're swallowing, or some hormone that triggers the teeth coming? Why would it make them poo more?

I am really full up but I still fancy the raspberry jelly in the fridge

NotReallyHerePossum · 01/09/2007 22:46

your LO is teething. I think the raspberry jelly is calling with a siren-like allure, together with the organic vanilla icecream that is wailing to accompany it (er hem, not tres 10/10 but the raspberry will count)

You're up early, Avi!

The digger thing, hmm, I haven't said anything about it because you seem to be upset and I don't really have any useful advice. To be honest, I can't really see that it is at all unusual to be obsessed with some form of machinery. This is where Bob the Builder sprung from. Children love diggers, and aeroplanes, and dinosaurs, and trains, and so on...

I also think that other parents would and do perpetuate this love even if they aren't in the business because the child likes it and so everything is themed by it. The next spoon of dinner is an aeroplane, or we spin round the room like an aeroplane, look out for them, buy pyjamas with them on etc.

As long as they have a balance and aren't being denied other thngs because they are boys I can't see how this would affect their outlook on life, and he has you to do this. He has a fab kitchen! You could always take him to shows where he sees men doing something more gentle and vice versa?

I think it's annoying your dh won't listen to your worries or take them seriously, but I can see why he would think, why not?

Sorry if I've got the wrong end of the stick with it, I just remember ds1 being similarly obsessed and being encouraged with it but he is a very sensitive, wordly boy now with many interests. He makes wands, cooks, pushes the pram, likes flowers etc as well as football.

I have had 2 kiwis, 2 nectarines, some black grapes and smoothie. DH slept on the sofa as I'd left his pillow outside the door. well, I didn't want to be woken up at 3am did I?

Where is Franny, has she gone away again? I haven't e-mailed you back actually, F, will do that today.

FrannyandZooey · 02/09/2007 09:35

Morning, I am here, and yes, if people haven't emailed about the meet up, please could they? Then I'll bash on with trying to arrange a venue. I know it may seem early but I have a busy couple of months coming up, and would rather get something booked up now, when it should be easy, than be struggling to find anywhere nearer the time.

OVERRUN! It is great to see you and thank you for your email. We often did think of you and wondered if you had been very strong willed and avoided coming back and getting hooked deliberately. Please get stuck back in to 10 / 10 as it will be lovely to have you around again.

About the digger obsession; I do see exactly what you mean Avi. I partly think it is the age that your ds is at; my ds was also incredibly single-minded at this age - gratifyingly, about music [preen]. We were half convinced we had a prodigy on our hands, because he had such an all consuming interest in playing instruments and drumming, and a bit of facility for it. He would also constantly refer to and talk about it in the way your ds does - a piece of bread was a trumpet, a stick was a flute. He still loves it, but the obsession has passed, and I think it was partly a phase related to toddlerhood. I remember Pruni saying around the same time, that her ds would go to bed crying at the possibility of not being able to see more diggers the next day, and I don't think anyone encouraged that one, particularly.

The book Possum is talking about is this one and it's a wonderful read, very interesting (and slightly depressing).

More in a minute, I don't like to do great epic posts in case they get lost en route

I really like The Invisible Mango for a title, can we have that at some point?

Do we want that or Anne of Green Gages? I think we should have a new title tomorrow to shift this Melon Cauli afflicting us. (hopes nobody starts up about nectarines and peaches again)

Well done everyone battling on and eating some f+v. I went for dinner last night and had asparagus for a starter, and a salad with my ridiculously cheesy pasta. It had a sauce which I think was just liquid cheese. The asparagus was great, and we'll gloss over the pudding [la la la]

Sorry I was miserable. I think I've stopped now.

OP posts:
MrsCarrot · 02/09/2007 09:56

Yes, a new title, new start! I won't mention nectarines or balloons. I like either the mango or the Anne one.

How about 'Cos I am your lycheeee, and you are my maaaango' whenever you reeeeach for me lalala.. the power of love

Oh alright it's playing on the radion

Are you alright, Franny, hope you're not too upset by twat posters

FrannyandZooey · 02/09/2007 09:57

I think you must have a bat phone or something, you are all very good at noticing what goes on

MrsCarrot · 02/09/2007 10:03

My toast just popped up and loads of fruit flies flew off it Do they like rye or something?

FrannyandZooey · 02/09/2007 10:05

Oh god was there more this morning? I have been trying not to look

3andnomore · 02/09/2007 10:05

Hi again....well, I did say hi yesterday evening, but no one noticed [hurt emoticon]

lol
anyway, avi, mrs C said very well what I would I thought about it...so no point me saying anything.
My 3 boys had all the same influences (o.k. maybe ys a little less, as we only lived for a short while in a real army environment, I suppose..but he does see dh in his Uniform, etc...) , it hasn't really impacted them, they never really play soldiers...although, my es has done on a few occasions, but those were short phases....otherwise they all seem to find their own interests...my es was and still is mad about drawing and painting and building with legos, etc....and it's his true talent, he is very good at it
My ms was into Thomas big time, now he is just into making noise and running around and stuff, he hasn't really got anything he is truely mad about at this time.
My youngest is a fair bit into Trains, etc...but his passion are cars...!
However, all my 3 boys also loved playing with Buggies and Dolls at one point.
Anyway, rtambling wasn't I...lol

Possum, your poor ds, what a nightmare for you that he reacts so badly onto those additives....I suppose, if you have them more often you system sort of gets used to it, but if you never have them and have a "pure" system it will react much stronger...
Hope those AB's at least work.

Well....don't think I will have to many f&v's today, as we are going to pick up our dog from the Inlaws in a little while, and stay there to eat, etc....
but will definately get back into it all as off tomorrow....I feel sooo sooo sluggish right now, and I know it's all those foods I have eaten lately...! Also, must get back into doing exercise...another thing that makes me feel better.
We went camping this week up in Grimsby. Well, Brigsley or something like that was the place we camped at, right on the edges of Waltham. Went to Pleasure Island one day and to Playtowers, and the Beach and stuff...Kids were really good....it was the first time since we had the lil ones, that we went camping, so, we didn't know how they would react, they loved it, and were real sweeties...took a friend for es, so, he had someone to talk to and play with...also went to visit a friend in waltham, and she looked after our cat for us.
We got that huge 9 people tent from argos recently (it was on special offer for £99 ) and it was fabulous...it has like this main dome in the middle and 3 little domes going of it as bedrooms....so spacious, really good.We will definately go camping more often
Well, really should get us all ready, I suppose...Kids and me need a bath and all that, and then off to the Inlaws...
