For anyone who wants a boost to their general health. The suggested goals are:

EAT 10 PORTIONS OF FRUIT AND VEGETABLES EVERY DAY - if you don't usually eat much fruit and veg I would build up gradually or you could upset your digestion.

DO (AT LEAST) 10 MINUTES OF EXERCISE EVERY DAY - can be yoga, stretching or something more energetic. The plan is that the idea of doing 10 minutes is not too daunting, and having started you may well find you want to do more.

There are no restrictions on what you eat so long as you get your 10 fruit and veg as well. The focus is not on weight loss but on improving our energy levels and hopefully our general mood and well-being. Sign up below and post here to tell us how you're getting on and how you are feeling.

Basic guidance on what constitutes a portion of fruit and veg here and you can download more detailed information by following the link at the very bottom of the page

I just had a wave of guilt for neglecting children and idly writing nonsense on mn all day, so went upstairs to see if they fancy going to park, and there is a notice on their bedroom door that says 'privit plas ples ceep awt'

I knocked, and dd1 said 'mummy, read the sign, we need some private time please'.

Humph. Right, well.
[but they're 5 and 2!! surely this doesn't happen for another 10 years?]

Lullabyloo · 29/08/2007 15:22

oh no Boco !!!!

Lullabyloo · 29/08/2007 15:23

ds is awake....off into town to buy marbles...dried fruit...large amounts of stuff for my mother & a book....

filthymindedvixen · 29/08/2007 15:29

LOl Boco.
If they are too quiet, be Afraid. be Very Afraid......

Boco · 29/08/2007 15:31

You're right. All bedding off beds, all toys and movable object seems to be stacked and arranged in one corner. Apparently it's a hospital and dd2 has a heart that has come loose.

Guadalupe · 29/08/2007 16:04

DD is making a den with her friend too. Very impressed with your dd's note though, I think we'd have just received a verbal warning

filthymindedvixen · 29/08/2007 16:44

off topic and I'm sorry. But I am in a blue funk now about very grand hotel. I have never stayed in a very grand hotel . Are any of you posh birds with good advice? What clothes should I take? Does anyone have any smart clothes I can borrow?

NotReallyHerePossum · 29/08/2007 17:24

Claridges is lovely, it had a marvellous cocktail bar. You;ll have a fab time. If you're l;ike me you'll want to spend all the time in the bathroom just wallowing - it's gorgeous. Well done on such a fantastic prize.
I think jeans and trainers are frowned on for tea and dressing for dinner is usual, if you're eating there. The staff are charming towards guests' children and will work hard to accomodate their (often bizarre!) requests.

BBBee · 29/08/2007 17:28

oh filthy how brilliant! I am thrilled you will be going - it will be wonderful!

(see I said 10/10 was lucky)

Okay - what do you get to do? What stuff do you get?

You need a hat - honestly - a big purple hat - they all wear then in claridges.

Hooray!

Am loving the meet up stories - am loving the unrequited love. I adore tales of pursuing and longing - ahh!

Guadalupe · 29/08/2007 17:36

yes, forgot to say well done, FMV

Boco · 29/08/2007 17:52

I was so sure i was going to win that prize, i reviewed all sorts of silly places. Well done FMV [gritted teeth emoticon]

BBBee in your facebook picture you're wearing an interesting hat - did you buy it? Can you lend it to FMV?

FrannyandZooey · 29/08/2007 18:15

Oh god how CAN you all type so much?

I have 5 mins to catch up

FrannyandZooey · 29/08/2007 18:32

Oh god FMF you star! Oh wow. I think you must be right this IS a lucky thread. I won the chocolate fountain and the £100 of shoes, do you remember?

My favourite bit of the thread so far is where zippi went nertner

I am sorry about the thing that you had to say nertner about, zippi, but I loved you saying it

HC and I are going out for a drink in a bar [weary] [old]

Guadalupe is MrsC yes?

If so tell me where you went and what you did and what you ate.

BBBee · 29/08/2007 18:39

oh Fran - I remeber you wining the chocolate fountain and poeple kindly posting you recipes where you use galaxy and add a cup of vegetable oil!

Boco- I am in selfridges trying on that hat - I idn't buy it because even though I looked divine it was £900 for what is basically a pink felt cowboy hat.

FMV - what are you going ot wear?

filthymindedvixen · 29/08/2007 18:50

well, I shall obviously eschew a common old purple hat and wear that BBB. And not a stitch else!

Yes, we 10/10 are being amply rewarded for our virtue eh?

I haven't told the boys yet

I'm taking my older boy but the younger will be devastated. (even though we'll split the toy money 50/50)

filthymindedvixen · 29/08/2007 18:52

I'm fairly sure my budget will not extend to eating there. perhaps I can smuggle in some cabbage leaves begged from a friendly barrow boy under my hat to secretly eat in the room...

BBBee · 29/08/2007 20:00

poor younger son - what does the trip entail then? Can you let him dictate any other visits whilst you are there os choose a place for supper?

When we lived in London there was a nice place called soho pizzaria near hamleys and make sure you eat loads at breakfast!!!

oh avi - the kitchen is divine and your house is so tidy! And your boy is lovely.

I went for a drink last night and sat outside by the river and now I have some huge insect bites on my legs that itch like bugger.

fruit and vegetable wise okay but not great:

apple x2
plum x2
tomatoes
cucumber
pasta sauce (onion, peppers, garlic, chilli, tomaotes)

DP out tonight and children having sauce I had made ealier so it was nice because I could put in exactly what I wanted and I know that I ate ALL of those vegetabbles myself.

Off to take medicine and sulk.

TooTicky · 29/08/2007 20:56

Lovely photos Avi but I was hoping for one of you. Your ds is sweet. What is that interesting thing with coloured bits that he's playing in?

Well done FMV! Hope your little one isn't too upset...

We have had one hell of a day. I had to restrain ds2 on the train as he wanted to crawl under the seats and he sprawled across my lap in a struggly sort of way, shouting, "You have broken my ankle! You are killing my head! I'm melting!" I really wasn't being at all rough but he refused to be calmed or jollied and a woman was giving me very stern looks. Not sure which one of us she disapproved of most. Busybody
Ds1 shouted and called me mean AFTER I had bought him things
And dd1 wore her new wheeled trainers (charity shop, £1, her own money)[frustrated]
And the boys actually fought in my grandmother's small, hot room. Actually, so did dd1 and ds2.
Dd2 was pretty angelic though
Oh, and ds2 bought a plastic poo today which he is very taken with.

I don't often drink, but I am drinking ale made from stinging nettles. Does this count as veg?

NormaStanleyFletcher · 29/08/2007 20:57

Can I join in

TooTicky · 29/08/2007 20:58

Oooh do!

Guadalupe · 29/08/2007 21:10

Toot - there is always someone on a train with a opinion, let it wash over you! Sounds like a stressful day.

Hello Normanstanleyfletcher - I am Mrs C but Boco has named me Guadalupe.

Where are you then Bee?
