FAB TITLE BY FMF (AND BBB)

For anyone who wants a boost to their general health. The suggested goals are:

EAT 10 PORTIONS OF FRUIT AND VEGETABLES EVERY DAY - if you don't usually eat much fruit and veg I would build up gradually or you could upset your digestion.

DO (AT LEAST) 10 MINUTES OF EXERCISE EVERY DAY - can be yoga, stretching or something more energetic. The plan is that the idea of doing 10 minutes is not too daunting, and having started you may well find you want to do more.

There are no restrictions on what you eat so long as you get your 10 fruit and veg as well. The focus is not on weight loss but on improving our energy levels and hopefully our general mood and well-being. Sign up below and post here to tell us how you're getting on and how you are feeling.

Basic guidance on what constitutes a portion of fruit and veg here and you can download more detailed information by following the link at the very bottom of the page

Wotcha Franny

MamaG, that is a scarily impressive start.

LL, your ds has very sophisticated tastes!
(psst, there is a house for sale 3 doors down from us with a nice long garden.....)

Have only had toast so far today. Fruit somewhat limited this week.

Tatties · 15/08/2007 11:48

Morning all

LL good to hear from you.

Avi that's great about the pilates books!

I am craving a gym session I am finding I want to go because I am worried I will feel crap if I don't.

I have only just eaten breakfast (granola and berries) Finding it really hard to get going in the morning, waking up all headachey. Spent today so far rescuing ds from various scrapes he is getting into while jumping on my bed...

Boco · 15/08/2007 11:58

I had my first child free day in months planned to day - was hoping to have a major sort out and spring clean, catch up with a bit of overdue work, made a list and everything.

My mum has picked the girls up 5 minutes ago instead of at 9am, as she was busy, and has decided she needs to do some weeding this afternoon, so would like to drop them back off at about 3. So my day has turned into 3 hours childfree time, and i'm too grumpy to do all the things on my list now.

It's not fair

MamaG · 15/08/2007 12:42

poor boco

Boco · 15/08/2007 13:59

Yes, poor me. I know i'm an ungrateful moaner, but it's been months with not even an HOUR to myself, I just want one clear day.

LL how are you feeling? Sorry you had a bad night (sorry for my suddenly embarrassingly inappropriate whining - what a tit i am)

Lullabyloo · 15/08/2007 15:40

oh poor Boco
am okish thanks..plodding on till friday & holding out for some proper treatment of some kind..even though it may mean surgery

hospitals & I just dont get on

went to market in the rain & let ds shovel strawberries, beans, peas, beetroot, walnut bread, apples, cherries, olives, prawns & salmon into his trug...then came a downpour & he was dying for the loo so we headed into the precinct & zoomed up to fenwicks....
bumped into friend & her children who were just off to have lunch in the cafe.
I hate the place with a vengeance as the food is sooo bad but ds was delighted to have some small folk for company so while friend & brood ate pasty looking sandwiches, plastic wrapped cheese ,cold sausages & capri sons...ds ate half my dodgy salad + mounds of olives, prawns & a hunk of walnut bread
He did however join in with the tub of haagen das for pudding
I would love to open a cafe that served interesting organic food for children....everywhere it's mostly boring ,unhealthy tat for little ones & it makes me mad...grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr

the sun is out....hurray

3andnomore · 15/08/2007 16:58

First things first...have alreday achieved my 10 portions of f&v, and that was by lunchtime, lol....had watermelon, peaches, pears and carrots and cucmber...am gonna go shopping in a mo, to get a few bits...think I will have a veggie stirfry tonight
lol Toot...you do like your vegetables colourful then I guess....must say, I love raw kohl rabi...my nan used to grow it...yum....!
and lol at your floam sniffing son....I knew there was a good reason for NOT buying this stuff, dispite Kids reassuring me they would love it sooo much, lol!
Lullaby, glad to see you back, but sorry you had to stay in Hospital and had to have all those tests, etc...and that your lil one is a bit out of sync...!
Oh, and no garden would bother me...as mentioned lower down in my post, the area isn't great...but we have a massive garden with a treehouse, a 14ft trampoline and a wendy house and still far to much grass, dispite also haveing a largish patio area aswell as a oversized shed....and all dirt cheap...we were happy to sacrifice area to the other things...especially as our house is a decent sized 4 bed and we only paid just under 92K...Corby is the place to buy don't you know ( I am of course talking this place up to myself here, ratehr then boasting...especially in the rain Corby has as much charm as the inside of my black bin )
Boco, I really like teh movie "Night in the museum" And sorry your mum has let you a bit down wiht that child free time...
Possum...how cool with teh Hosueswap....no one would ever want to swap house with me, I think...lol...I mean, who in their right mind would actually consider Corby as a Holiday destination...erm...no one me thinks, lol!
Oh Quattro...but there is a meaning to it, there really is...or so I gather...lol...must say, if it was left to me to think up thread names...well...it would not be very exciting...ever...
huhu Franny [waving madly emoticon]
MamG...you already do rather well then...well....you know tis allowed to have....gasp...even more then 10 portions...

FrannyandZooey · 15/08/2007 18:07

Am daunted by the length of this thread and worrying I should reply to everyone, but am just going to plunge in. Have had big bowl of veg and bean stew for dinner - banana in my sandwich at lunch.

London was fab - the highspot was the Antony Gormley exhibition OH MY LORD it was good. Imagine being in a glass box with 25 strangers, not being able to see more than about a foot and a half in front of your face, because it is filled with a wet, cold, glowing fog. Bloody mad. We loved it. Ds is currently crying because we have just told him it won't be there again next time we are in London . I really recommend it to anyone who has a chance to see it.

Avi what DID you buy then?

Lullaby you have all of our sympathy. I hope things improve rapidly after Friday.

Oh good you're back Franny. So pleased you had fun - didn't you find that you all looked at the rest of the exhibition differently once you'd been in the box?

MrsC did an excellent round-up for you down below, spiders, LL, live web cam at 100house and er some fruit and veg I think.

Today a bit grim. Can't think of any fruit or veg, except perhaps orange juice.

Went book shopping for next week. DS1 and 2 wanted about 7 each, and dd got in a strop. It's been RAINING ALL DAY.

ahundredtimes · 15/08/2007 19:26

Avi - second place for Fennel seems utterly heroic to me. Magnificent in fact.

I love fennel. I love Fennel tea particularly.

FrannyandZooey · 15/08/2007 20:25

Yes thanks I read the bit about the LOOFAHS already, no need to keep mentioning the bloody things (on my own fricking thread as well )

I love A Gormley and am now more convinced than ever of his sanctitude. Apart from the box I adored the statues all over the skyline - really witty. And the Turin shroud sort of thing. And the toast.

SO AVI WHAT DID YOU BUY?????

OP posts:
TooTicky · 15/08/2007 20:43

Tomato, cucumber, red pepper, lettuce, mushrooms, carrots, beans, peas, apple. Dd1, dd2 and I were picking the beans, peas and carrots when it thundered loudly and dd2 ran barefoot through a thistly thing in fright.

Am suffering from probably very trivial but nevertheless rather affecting maternal trauma. Worse because I am menstrual.

FrannyandZooey · 15/08/2007 20:56

Sorry to hear about thistles How is she?

Will somebody tell me what Avi bought or is it a secret?

OP posts:
MrsCarrot · 15/08/2007 21:27

Why are you angry about loofahs, on your thread, where were the loofas?

Avi - I'm longing to know what you bought too, TELL US!!

FrannyandZooey · 15/08/2007 21:29

AVI TELL US (she is being coy isn't she?)

I am talking about 8 legged loofahs MrsC. I don't mind people talking about them while I am away but I am back now

OP posts:
Tatties · 15/08/2007 21:31

Gosh TT poor dd2 And poor you, that maternal thing is bad isn't it..

Good to see you back Fran (I know you don't like Fran but I just felt like saying it )
Where did you stay?

I didn't make it to the gym but am tucking into some much needed strawbs and rasps

FrannyandZooey · 15/08/2007 21:40

We were just in a Travelodge but it was fine. So bloody cheap. Greeny and famille were across the corridor. They put up with us very well.

I have photos if she comes and says I can put them up

OP posts:
MrsCarrot · 15/08/2007 21:41

Oh. Sorry. Didn't know there was an issue with 'loofahs' will n'eer speak of them again. Can I just ask if loofah is an entirely arbitrary replacement term or is there a connection?

Toot - thistles are horrible, there were loads when we were camping, they even poke throught thick blankets, I hope your dd feels better soon

Have had sushi with mixed salad, grapes, carrots, peppers, onions and tomtaoes with chard and green beans from next door. I gave her a spindly old bean and it took off and has made more beans than all her ones . I like having friendly neighbours, if I make too much salad at lunch I pass her some over the fence. She gives me lovely knitted thinigs for lo, her ds is just one, her dd is the same age too,, they chat on a stump at the bottom.

Tatties · 15/08/2007 21:42

Oooh photos [excited]

FrannyandZooey · 15/08/2007 21:43

Erm. Arbitrary . Can't remember how it came about. Another MNer who is scared of wasps now calls them "soap on a rope" inspired by my loofah success

(psst I am not THAT bad about loofahs and kind of play on it for attention-seeking and occasionally comedy purposes )

AVIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIII

3&nomore, it wasn't a house swap, my guests live in a rather scary suburb of Moscow, I just wanted to illustrate that sometimes taking a risk (like letting a complete stranger live in your home for a week with you not there) can lead to wonderful experiences, however mad and overly-optimistic-in-human-nature it seems in concept.
LL, a roof terrace might not be what an energetic 3 year old most desires but to an adult it sounds wildly romantic and lovely!
F&Z, welcome back, sorry to mention the subject, but don't you think Mrs C's expectant mama spider is being rather sweet and corageous, waving all her 8 legs protectively to scare off a ginormous human from her littlies? I found that a very endearing image.
I am really getting into the swing of this thread after a shakey start - cooked spinach & onion topped with feta cheese & nutmeg this evening, lots of plums & cherries, made about 7 portions in all I think.
Bought some Blackthorn Elixir which is meant to be revitalising, esp if you're b/feeding, alas as a hot toddy it tastes alarmingly of luke warm loo cleaner

MrsCarrot · 15/08/2007 21:45

Her dd is the same age as mine I mean, the babies don't chat on a tree stump, yet.
