For anyone who wants a boost to their general health. The suggested goals are:

EAT 10 PORTIONS OF FRUIT AND VEGETABLES EVERY DAY - if you don't usually eat much fruit and veg I would build up gradually or you could upset your digestion.

DO (AT LEAST) 10 MINUTES OF EXERCISE EVERY DAY - can be yoga, stretching or something more energetic. The plan is that the idea of doing 10 minutes is not too daunting, and having started you may well find you want to do more.

There are no restrictions on what you eat so long as you get your 10 fruit and veg as well. The focus is not on weight loss but on improving our energy levels and hopefully our general mood and well-being. Sign up below and post here to tell us how you're getting on and how you are feeling.

Basic guidance on what constitutes a portion of fruit and veg here and you can download more detailed information by following the link at the very bottom of the page

Oh, TooT, what a conundrum, what a prospect (there is a lot wrong with public transport when you are grown and travelling solo but with four children ....)

The steam train part is a little bit Hogwarts.

lionheart · 28/07/2007 08:25

BBB you could try this here, some of the recipes are for yellow plums.

FrannyandZooey · 28/07/2007 08:54

Some of them will last in the fridge, but I think you had better get eating

Have had plums (the purple kind), melon, grapes, raisins

am working doing sports this morning and pub garden entertainer at lunchtime

Filchymindedvixen · 28/07/2007 12:57

dh has found a friend (YAY!) and he is coming over with his dd fr a bbq this afternoon. Now I am attemtping to make our house look vaguely normal just in case he's the sort of bloke who notices things

There is a huge quantity of meat but I am attemtping to balance things out with frilly food.

TooTicky · 28/07/2007 13:19

I have been told that you can just chuck plums straight in the freezer whole.

TooTicky · 28/07/2007 13:20

Also, pl;ums go very nicely in cakes - in halves or quarters. Don't make the cake mixture too sweet.

TooTicky · 28/07/2007 13:24

There is a sort of neighbourly barbecue here today. I am lurking in a procrastinatory sort of way. I am not good socially and that initial walking over to where everybody is is pure hell.

Filchymindedvixen · 28/07/2007 13:27

oh TT - dh and I are crap socially! That is to say we like being sociable, we really do, and we're nice people! but we're scared of rejection so hardly ever make social 'advances' as it were. So I could easily say to you, ''Take a cake over and join in, what's the worst that could happen?''
But you know, I'd really struggle to sactually do it myeself

TooTicky · 28/07/2007 13:33

Well, I will go because it is expected. And I will take food. But I dread it. It is usually okay, eventually (it's an annual thing) and some of the people are truly lovely. But they're not all kindred spirits...

Tatties · 28/07/2007 16:05

Oh another half of a socially inept couple here too... I hope you are having a lovely afternoon though

I am feeling tired but good as I've managed to de-clutter a couple of hot-spots in my house. I think I will try to get out for a swim later.

Franny how did your day go? I really understand about the not wanting to cook thing btw. I get it often - like I have a mental block and just cannot work out what to make with what I have and going to buy ingredients seems like a huge undertaking. I do get sick of having to cook every day too.

TooTicky · 28/07/2007 16:53

It was okay. Nice really. But I will dread it just the same next year. The people are lovely.

I find cooking much harder in the summer. It is when I most resent the fact that the dcs will not just sit down to a plate of salad.

FrannyandZooey · 28/07/2007 16:55

LOL what a surprise, dp and I are v shy (I hide it well but am probably MORE antisocial than dp) as well. One of the reasons I love MN so much. You get to socialise without any of the awful bits. And when I meet people I know on here in RL I think "well I know they like me or they wouldn't bother coming to see me", whereas in RL you kind of think "oh it is because they can't not invite me without looking rude" or "it is because it's convenient for the children to play together", etc

LOL at clutter hotspots, is that from the Life Laundry? That was one of the very few things I used to like on TV when we had one.

My day was ok. I feel really tired. I will post about work on that other thread in a bit. We have been out by the river watching ds digging, and then picking mounds of raspberries, strawberries and redcurrants, which was lovely but I got too hot and feel a bit blah now.

The food thing was really weird. I couldn't even cope with making sandwiches for lunch We kept having to have a quick lunch and then rush off somewhere and I kept failing to do it, and having to get stuff from M+S. I hope it has gone now.

TooTicky · 28/07/2007 18:33

But what if you can't eat shop stuff Franny? What then? I have become so puritan...

FrannyandZooey · 28/07/2007 18:48

Yes I would have been stuffed TooT. I really don't know what it was all about, it was like some weird mental block. I kept saying to dp each night "PLEASE can you tell me what to do for tea because thinking about it is making me feel odd."

TooTicky · 28/07/2007 18:49

You're not pg, are you? Just summer madness?

FrannyandZooey · 28/07/2007 18:56

No not PG, yes just a bit stressed I think

I said to dp "have I seemed a bit strange this week?" and he said "it is so difficult to tell..."

TooTicky · 28/07/2007 19:03

Not sure whether to or
Hope your pub thing works out okay anyway.

FrannyandZooey · 28/07/2007 19:03

He meant it

Thank you

Tatties · 28/07/2007 19:23

"PLEASE can you tell me what to do for tea because thinking about it is making me feel odd."

Apart from being pg, I normally associate this feeling with PMT (quelle surprise), being a bit depressed, or just generally I AM TIRED OF HAVING TO MAKE DECISIONS AND THINK ABOUT EVERYTHING ALL THE TIME

Lullabyloo · 28/07/2007 19:27

Lullabyloo · 28/07/2007 19:36
