Circumcision - have you had your ds 'done'?

My dh wants to follow the family tradition of having ds circumcised (for non-religious reasons) but I'm not sure if I want him to go under the knife. If you've had your ds done, why and at what age? And do you think it's made a difference (ie health and hygenically-wise)?

Well, he was sitting here, so yes? Figured he'd know.

misdee · 17/09/2004 22:20

sophable, u didnt offend me. its just having been raised in religious family (circumism not involved in this one), i now look at things differently. i see religion and (i wouldnt say respect) but udnerstand a bit about why they do thinsg they do. Personally i wouldnt do it unless there was a medical reason.

monkeygirl · 17/09/2004 22:20

Hello - I am around! I think my last post got lost in the talk of - ahem- masturbation etc. Fwiw I asked my dh about the 'foreskin' issue and he was totally bemused that you would need lubrication. But as yo usaid, Twiglett, best not go any further down that road . At the risk of boring you all again, we have decided not to go for it, although it's more to do with the fact that we do not feel strongly enough about it rather than thinking it is mutilation (which I do not).

monkeygirl, sorry that your thread has disintegrated a bit (must be cause it's friday)...but it is amazing how heated mn threads can get when you least expect it...

I have to sadly admit to not reading your original post, monkeygirl. Glad you guys worked it out together.

And sorry for not reading the whole thing.

monkeygirl · 17/09/2004 22:38

DH always agrees with me - in the end . But to be honest he has always been pleased to have been circumcised as he says it has other advantages ie being able to pee using no hands (now I really cannot let him read this thread as I will be banned for talking about his 'bits')

JJ · 17/09/2004 22:41

OMG, you've got me wondering about uncircumcised men peeing now.

sweetkitty · 17/09/2004 22:41

not having read the whole thread I was wondering why it is a religious thing who first said that boys had to have their foreskins removed?

DP not "done" and if we had boys they wouldn't be done either, I'm of the opinion it is there for a reason. Also they still look ugly hats on or off

sweetkitty · 17/09/2004 22:42

DP pees with no hands!!!

I make him sit down in the house no splashes, my mums partner stayed with us for a few days and yuck the state of the loo (sorry for digressing)

monkeygirl · 17/09/2004 22:49

Eee-uuuu. I think the circumcised lot can do no hands but good aim.

I'm embarassed to admit that I am religiously ignorant about its origins. I am a fallen Catholic and our school most definitely would not have brought up the subject, so to speak .
