For anyone who wants a boost to their general health. The suggested goals are:

EAT 10 PORTIONS OF FRUIT AND VEGETABLES EVERY DAY - if you don't usually eat much fruit and veg I would build up gradually or you could upset your digestion.

DO (AT LEAST) 10 MINUTES OF EXERCISE EVERY DAY - can be yoga, stretching or something more energetic. The plan is that the idea of doing 10 minutes is not too daunting, and having started you may well find you want to do more.

There are no restrictions on what you eat so long as you get your 10 fruit and veg as well. The focus is not on weight loss but on improving our energy levels and hopefully our general mood and well-being. Sign up below and post here to tell us how you're getting on and how you are feeling.

Basic guidance on what constitutes a portion of fruit and veg here and you can download more detailed information by following the link at the very bottom of the page

s'alright, Dh is stuffing them now, it is completely and utterly delicious, even beating him with the empty bag of Whizzers isn't making him part with them

FrannyandZooey · 03/07/2007 21:13

is it the sort I bought for NQC?

FrannyandZooey · 03/07/2007 21:13

ah

Montezuma's? I think?

Oh I want to do this! Might not join today as will have to admit to lame effort! Does 1 cherry tomato count as a portion?
I had three proper portions - raisins, green beans and avocado. Some onion and dried apricots in a tagine, half of DD's peach. Perhaps these and the tomato could add together as one? Actually if I go and have some juice and an apple now I'll be over halfway there.
Gosh how waffly
So can I add up my small amounts to make one?

MrsCarrot · 03/07/2007 21:21

not Montezuma's, Divine, but I do adore Montezumas geraniam and orange, I cried the first time I ate that.

Pinkspottywellies, LOL at your one cherry tomato!

FrannyandZooey · 03/07/2007 21:23

PSW welcome! Yes you can eat as many small portions as you like, it all adds up. See the link in the OP to find out what you are aiming at in total.

MrsC did you really cry? God, and my dp thinks I am unhinged

OP posts:
GreenyMcGyver · 03/07/2007 21:25

oi, Franny - does it or does it not have to be 10 different fruit/vegetable items? Or is 2 apples 2 portions?

Not that this ever comes up chez Greeny

MrsCarrot · 03/07/2007 21:28

I did cry, it was a very beautiful flavour, and I was feeling wistful

well, premenstrual

FrannyandZooey · 03/07/2007 21:29

as we are eating 10 not 5, we have our own rules

you can eat TWO portions of beans not one

ditto juice

you can eat 10 bananas one day and count it if you like, but don't expect anyone to stand downwind of you the next day.

Come on, just use your own judgement here. Eat a variety over the week / year. Otherwise, just do what you like.

Please don't laugh at my cherry tomato I'm going to start properly tomorrow! Just having OJ and an apple.

3andnomore · 03/07/2007 21:36

sorry, got into this thread through another one and read op and last post...but on the Juicing part...is it presumed in those guidelines people only juice fruit...the sugar thing...and about the fiber thing, if you add something like psylliam husk, which is natural, etc.....it adds to the fiber of the juice and as for vitamins and mineral a juice will reach you where eating fruit and veg can't cos of our generally battered systems!
Also, if having home extracted juice, obviously even there is a difference...like masticated juice is gentler and slower expressed as centrifugally expressed one....and if drunk freash it's a vitamin and mineral bomb...surely juicing shouldn't be as easily dismissed in the 10/10 way....
truely, I love eating fruit and veg and do as much as I did before juicing, but my energy levels, etc are so different to before... and I have eaten lots of fruit and veg in general anyway...

MrsCarrot · 03/07/2007 21:36

you didn't tell him did you?

Pinkspottywellies- don't be sad, just joking, we often come on and say one strawberry etc, try for two tomorrow

pinkspottywellies · 03/07/2007 21:39

I know MrsC - was joking But I am serious in asking if carrot cake counts? And would I really be pushing it if I wanted to count the sprinkling of lemon zest on my carrot cake?

3andnomore · 03/07/2007 21:41

fruit and veg cooked at high temperature,as in baking, would not count, I would think, because all the goodness is distroyed in the process...but of course only hvae come onto this thread ...but that is what I have learned, etc...

pinkspottywellies · 03/07/2007 21:42

Ooh ooh! Just looked at the chart and my apricots are a whole portion - I only needed 3! Sorry for over-analysis and over-excitement I'll calm down when I'm not so new to it all!

GreenyMcGyver · 03/07/2007 21:44

No, don't camn down, you'll be much more at home if you keep being loopy and over-analytical

I tried to convice Franny salted peanut counted - invoked the National Peanut Council Of Great Britain and everything - but she was having none of it

3andnomore · 03/07/2007 21:45

btw...must also add this, lol....but JV does not say one must juice to get the benefits , but that you get them easier...however he does say ones diet should be around 80% water rich, i.e. fruit and veg...preferable raw or lightly steamed....

GreenyMcGyver · 03/07/2007 21:45

apologies for the appalling typing (and I must emphasize that it is typing, not spelling )

pinkspottywellies · 03/07/2007 21:45

Thanks 3andnomore. Shame - I'll have to eat it after my 10 if I still have room!

3andnomore · 03/07/2007 21:46

would the peanuts be rosted or raw ;)

3andnomore · 03/07/2007 21:46

lol

3andnomore · 03/07/2007 21:47
