For anyone who wants a boost to their general health. The suggested goals are:

EAT 10 PORTIONS OF FRUIT AND VEGETABLES EVERY DAY - if you don't usually eat much fruit and veg I would build up gradually or you could upset your digestion.

DO (AT LEAST) 10 MINUTES OF EXERCISE EVERY DAY - can be yoga, stretching or something more energetic. The plan is that the idea of doing 10 minutes is not too daunting, and having started you may well find you want to do more.

There are no restrictions on what you eat so long as you get your 10 fruit and veg as well. The focus is not on weight loss but on improving our energy levels and hopefully our general mood and well-being. Sign up below and post here to tell us how you're getting on and how you are feeling.

Basic guidance on what constitutes a portion of fruit and veg here and you can download more detailed information by following the link at the very bottom of the page

Franny, gooseberries - just eat 'em. Yum. Redcurrants nice just to eat too. Blackcurrants a little too sharp even for me - cook with your naff apples?

filthymindedvixen · 07/07/2007 17:55

aviatrix - migraine trigger? Wow, hope you have found it. (my brother and mother are huge sufferers so I can imagine what a big deal this might be)

NQC - I find knitting very soothing when I am hyper. But I am crap and can only do looooong scarves

Today I have eaten far too many cherries. Veggie Indian feast for dinner later.
I had a breakthrough in town. Bought boys an ice cream each and genuinely didn't fancy any for myself. Bought cherries instead...Yay!

lionheart · 07/07/2007 18:33

Hello everyone.

Have had cuc, lettuce, peppers, mushrooms, sweetcorn, raisins and banana today, must find some more.

FrannyandZooey · 07/07/2007 18:36

I have had some sweetcorn. Dp 'forgot' to cook any veggies with the dinner. He and ds came home with punnets of strawberries, raspberries and redcurrants though, so I am prepared to overlook it

Oh, I made some more gazpatcho, and finished off the last batch. Had tuna pasta for tea, which went down very well, then watermelon.

So today has been:

  • cereal (1)
  • cherries (1)
  • salad veg with lunch (1)
  • gazpatcho (3)
  • peas (1)
  • tuna pasta (1)
  • watermelon (1)

I'll probably go have some more fruit soon.

I think I will take a course, maybe Open University so I have more options for times?

NotQuiteCockney · 07/07/2007 19:05

(MIL is downstairs applauding at the recorded bits of Wimbledon. Am thoroughly )

Oh, and I biked to town and back, to avoid the bus. And DH and I will probably go for a long walk together after the kids are down, which is always nice to do.

BBBee · 07/07/2007 19:23

went strawberries picking today and ate loads - so did the children and am sure we are uber healthy now. Tast so much better too. Was shocked to find I had picked £8.85 worth though! Shame as there were loads of strawberries on the plants that had gone rotten - huge ones too - just no one picking in the bad weather. Got balckcurrants and raspberries too.

Had pasta with tomato sauce for supper plus all the fruit - am not sure what it adds up to, but know it is more than I usually have.

NQC - clapping at wimbeldon on the telly is odd. DP claps the cricket and that annoys me too.

SauerKraut · 07/07/2007 19:42

Gosh, you've all had a rather fruity day!
I have had some blackcurrants, banana, redcurrants and dates and am going to have some peas and salad with my rack of lamb currently being grilled by Dh. I may also have nectarine and apricot, just to catch up with you lot.

NotQuiteCockney · 07/07/2007 19:44

I'm having blueberries now.

I am at clapping at anything where the people involved can't hear you. She's talking to the TV too.

FrannyandZooey · 07/07/2007 19:46

ah I must take issue with you now NQC

I think this may be a British thing, it is traditional (and entirely proper IMO) to talk, applaud, cheer and even shout at the tv when Wimbledon is on

SauerKraut · 07/07/2007 19:46

And at Wimbledon- we are telly-free at the moment and haven't yet been arsed to find a decent radio station in high German. The Swiss kind involves too much gobbing.

NotQuiteCockney · 07/07/2007 19:49

But - Wimbledon isn't on, this is recorded from this afternoon!

I'm sorry, I know it's normal in this country to shout at the telly etc, we can tell when there's a big match on from all the (generally really pissed off sounding ) shouting. But it's still bloody weird. Fraeks, the lot of you.

Tatties · 07/07/2007 19:50

Avi, hope you have found your migraine trigger - they run in our family too, it's a horrible thing.

BBB strawberry picking sounds fun! Dp said he heard something on the radio about there being a shortage of pickers atm...

Knitting is a very calming thing isn't it, but I haven't felt like doing it since the the weather has got warmer.

I think I have done ok today: raisins, etc in muesli, banana in peanut butter sarnie (has become a lunchtime staple now!), 2 clementines, strawbs, rasps and veggie curry with tofu, tomatoes, onion, red pepper and mushrooms. No exercise as such but I have been getting out of breath singing along to some cds and I think it is good for the soul

FrannyandZooey · 07/07/2007 19:50

It matters not

really, what difference does it make if you are shouting at the representation of people a hundred miles away at the actual time that they are doing the thing you are watching, or 2 hours later?

it's all pretty daft, but harmless

OP posts:
NotQuiteCockney · 07/07/2007 19:50

You're right, the time shift makes very little difference, it's stupid, either way.

NotQuiteCockney · 07/07/2007 19:51

MIL is annoying me - to be fair, the fact she was glued to the telly through the bath and put down process is more of the problem. (We never have TV on randomly, and both boys are easily distracted by it.)

NotQuiteCockney · 07/07/2007 19:52

I think DH and I are going to go out for an entirely recreational bike ride now, though, which will be nice. To a pub, too.

FrannyandZooey · 07/07/2007 19:52

yes our strawb fields were sadly rotting as well

the raspberries were falling off the plants into your hand though, dp says

Bizarrely I think they also picked £8.85 worth of fruit BBB. Spooky.

OP posts:
FrannyandZooey · 07/07/2007 19:53

Yes MIL is just a twit

leave Wimbledon out of it

Hope you have a lovely ride; I am going out myself along the river, in half an hour when dp gets back

Tatties · 07/07/2007 19:55
