For anyone who wants a boost to their general health. The suggested goals are:

EAT 10 PORTIONS OF FRUIT AND VEGETABLES EVERY DAY - if you don't usually eat much fruit and veg I would build up gradually or you could upset your digestion.

DO (AT LEAST) 10 MINUTES OF EXERCISE EVERY DAY - can be yoga, stretching or something more energetic. The plan is that the idea of doing 10 minutes is not too daunting, and having started you may well find you want to do more.

There are no restrictions on what you eat so long as you get your 10 fruit and veg as well. The focus is not on weight loss but on improving our energy levels and hopefully our general mood and well-being. Sign up below and post here to tell us how you're getting on and how you are feeling.

Basic guidance on what constitutes a portion of fruit and veg here and you can download more detailed information by following the link at the very bottom of the page

I don't expect she gave a toss actually

seems a bit rude not to have noticed such an obvious status symbol though, I thought

Hello

NQC what exactly are emotional puppets?

Sounds like an interesting afternoon, Franny. I don't usually notice fancy status symbols but a Jag ...

Have had broccoli, carrots, plums, peas, parsnips, banana, apple so far.

NotQuiteCockney · 08/07/2007 18:58

I don't know what emotional puppets are. Maybe it's emotional work with puppets? Someone is coming from early childhood education at the council to teach us. I think?

lionheart · 08/07/2007 19:17

It sounds interesting, actually.

NotQuiteCockney · 08/07/2007 19:41

Ok, I am starving to death.

Did I mention I biked from home to Hyde Park and back? It's quite a long way.

I think I'll have some gazpatcho.

Papillon · 08/07/2007 21:12

eat more food FMF!! I am working on breaking the habit of living empty, on the sniff of rag; the just eat it campaign. Am impressed you do iron alittle, ironing is against my religion

Did alot of exercise yesterday digging a terrace area, lifting the topsoil and putting it in new areas. Had a hot tub at end of day as my bones were rather weary! Enjoying discovering different native NZ plants and what works in the location I live in, as it tends to often drought.

Meet a lovely woman in my neigbourhood who is fast becoming a friend simply by rocking up to her house to compliment her garden, she now regularly supplies me with cuttings and cups of tea. Excellent!

lionheart · 08/07/2007 21:13

Had to look that up, NQC, for a second I wasn't sure whether you were talking

about food or an ailment that comes about after a long cycling trip.

Do people still iron?

Aitch · 08/07/2007 21:34

i'm back again. i come here to look at how i should be living.

today i have eaten grated carrot, cumin and cheesy pittas and some peaches and some grapes and half a banana and some pork done in cream and port with mushrooms and onions. and potatoes and salad.

is that the idea. a confessional? i'm hungry again...

oh, and i went swimming but it was mostly making sure dd didn't throw herself off the side and drown.

filthymindedvixen · 08/07/2007 21:35

GRR you are all getting the Wrong Idea. I only iron the boys shitey polo shirts in a futile attempt to make them look slightly better cared ofr. (it's not my fault, they are the sort of children who look grubby 5 minutes after washing, their hair grows long and unkempt within 2 hours of being cut and if it is possible to get dusty, dirty or food-stained, they will.
THAT IS THE ONLY THING I IRON!
Also, because i use ecover, all my whites always look vaguley grey anyway, Crumpled and grey is horrid

Have you been accused of being a crease resister, fmv?

Blimmen cheek.

NotQuiteCockney · 08/07/2007 21:43

My children are always grubby, too, I promise.

DS1 actually looks sorta ok sometimes, but DS2 went for a haircut, ran off halfway through, and I haven't bothered having it redone .

If you iron, does that mean you 'make beds' too?

NotQuiteCockney · 08/07/2007 21:43

Oh, I am living on gazpatcho, got a new container that I can use to make + store it, which makes it all a bit easier. I have at least a half pint per day.

filthymindedvixen · 08/07/2007 21:44

erm . sometimes I make beds. (I distinctly remember making ds's bed up recently. But he was having a friend over for a sleepover so...)

FrannyandZooey · 08/07/2007 21:45

I don't iron either

however dp has been initiated into the sacred mysteries of the ironing board, and he does my skirts when occasionally necessary, so I can't really boast about it

have been on slow ambling bike ride: 7 miles

OP posts:
NotQuiteCockney · 08/07/2007 21:46

(We do pay someone to iron. But she mostly only iron's DH's work shirts. Every so often she irons something else, like kid's clothing, or tea towels or something else insane, and I don't know what to say ...)

FrannyandZooey · 08/07/2007 21:46

Oh we'll need a new title tomorrow

gawd let me trek back to the old thread to find that old loon's list

OP posts:
Aitch · 08/07/2007 21:47

now that is a great idea, although one of the main ingredients in my gazpacho is olive oil. has anyone got a less oilificent recipe? is it somewhere on this thread already?

although the downside is that dd has a tomato allergy.

Aitch · 08/07/2007 21:48

i keep my iron in the box it came in two and a half years ago. at some point i will unpack it, i'm sure.

NotQuiteCockney · 08/07/2007 21:49

I put a bit of olive oil in my recipe (and a bit of red wine vinegar, too) but really only a bit - a few tablespoons maybe? Just use less oil, if you want less oil. You can make it without, even.

My "recipe" is:

  • tomatoes (lots)
  • celery (a bit)
  • sweet peppers (moderate amounts)
  • cucumber (some)
  • a clove or two of garlic
  • some olive oil
  • some red wine vinegar
  • some hot sauce
  • a bit of water

Blend, chill, serve.

Gosh it has been emotional today

FMV what are you doing homework for? Have I missed something here?

Today I have had OJ, grapes, clementine, banana, strawberries, raspberries and veggie curry as yesterday.

And I DO NOT IRON! Dp goes out to work most days looking like he's slept in a hedge
