For anyone who wants a boost to their general health. The suggested goals are:

EAT 10 PORTIONS OF FRUIT AND VEGETABLES EVERY DAY - if you don't usually eat much fruit and veg I would build up gradually or you could upset your digestion.

DO (AT LEAST) 10 MINUTES OF EXERCISE EVERY DAY - can be yoga, stretching or something more energetic. The plan is that the idea of doing 10 minutes is not too daunting, and having started you may well find you want to do more.

There are no restrictions on what you eat so long as you get your 10 fruit and veg as well. The focus is not on weight loss but on improving our energy levels and hopefully our general mood and well-being. Sign up below and post here to tell us how you're getting on and how you are feeling.

Basic guidance on what constitutes a portion of fruit and veg here and you can download more detailed information by following the link at the very bottom of the page

Franny, as I am sure you know, sarcasm is no good for the digestion.

I have eaten a grapefruit.

Hmm, I couldn't think of anything worse than my
my mother AND my sister for lunch. My sister always stinks of stables, not that I dislike the smell of actual stables but on someone else, maybe it's just her though, she irritates me.

I've had raspberries, blueberries, melon and kiwi but not whole portions. Forgot to say what I had yesterday but it was quite beany, bean salad, beetoot salad and onion bhaji for the picnic, then mainly potatoes for dinner with mint. We also had some tortilla chips with flax and sesame in, delicious with salsa.

NotQuiteCockney · 08/07/2007 09:42

I have had cereal. My ILs are going soon. The DSes are refusing to leave the house with DH and I, as they'd rather be with the ILs. Which is a good thing, really, only I did want to see the tour de france parade thing.

We will probably go to the tour de france village thing, anyway, and maybe bike there? I'd rather bike, anyway.

Boco- where did your get your granny net thing for the fruit bowl, please? I have seen them somewhere but can't remember.

TooTicky · 08/07/2007 12:52

Lentil, potato, onion, carrot, garlic, red pepper, chard, fresh coriander soup. Chard was satisfyingly spinachy in texture - have never put it in soup before.

Went for major canal walk with ds1 and dd2. Ds1 foraged and got himself the most enormous, heavy, prickly leaf and carried it home.

BBBee · 08/07/2007 12:56

nice soup TT - am rather scared of chard - am guessing it was a veg box special.

I too need a fly net thing for my fruit bowl and a big sign to remind me to actualy eat the fruit rather than treat it as some modern art rotting visual display.

Fruit picking still paying off. 2 ig bowls of strawberries and raspberries for breakfast and lunch. Benas on toast for lunch too (am guessing not a great choice).

DD still ill on the setee with cgarlie and lola dvd - me trapped in the house whilst DS and DP are off out. Not moaning though - just wish my little sausage girl felt better.

TooTicky · 08/07/2007 13:01

This is a nice chard recipe. Actually, there are lots of nice recipes on the Riverford site - I suppose they want to forestall people phoning them and asking what they can do with their box veg.

SauerKraut · 08/07/2007 13:02

Dinner from the garden- wow. Our veg garden consists of one tomato flower and a chilli pepper at the moment, and it takes a nightly slug hunt to keep that going!
Have had banana, peach, dried banana, apple and a few nuts. And a longish bike ride with plenty of uphill For lunch we will be having cheese and potato cakes with salad, for tea roast chicken with coleslaw and green beans, so might reach 10 with a bit more fruit.

filthymindedvixen · 08/07/2007 14:10

Add shallot rot to my potato blight But got loads of strawbs and rasps, gooseberries and rhubarb which is pudding sorted later. Haven't actually eaten anything yet today must go and cram some pitta bread I think. Dinner will be served with homegrown broad beans and beetroot though sadly no peas have come through.

Add my to those of you near beaches.

Paps, just talking to you makes me feel sunnier

Am feeling affectionate, hugs to you all...

NotQuiteCockney · 08/07/2007 15:39

I had a peach while out at the Tour de France thing. And some olives, and cloves of marinated garlic. (do olives count?)

And I've had a lot of pineapple, my mouth is all raw now.

Dinner will be fattoush.

Looks like we're off out to a comedy show tomorrow night, Simon Munnery is playing around the corner. Some friends are coming ... I just have to get a babysitter sorted out now, whoops.

FrannyandZooey · 08/07/2007 17:45

Oh I want to go to a comedy show. Bah.

Mother and sister have gone. Feel a bit steamrollered. Had a nice lunch though - salad of lettuce from the garden, tomatoes, chickpeas, avocado, cucumber, and some lovely fresh rolls the boys had made, cheeses, with strawberries, raspberries and currants to finish.

Wanted to go to the gym tonight but it shuts at 7 and I am too hungry to go before eating. Dp is cooking a bubble and squeak type affair with some leftover mash, cabbage and some sweetcorn. Followed by carrot cake my mum made - looks pretty nice.

NotQuiteCockney · 08/07/2007 17:48

We haven't been to one for ages. It should be nice. Um, if I can find a babysitter, I have SMSed two people so far, and had no answer, they might both be away, whoops. If I don't hear anything by after dinner, I'll call someone else.

Tomorrow will be completely insane, I have the morning off, then a course (on emotional puppets? I think?) at the co-op. Then coming home, MIL is collecting DS1. Then MIL hangs about a bit, then goes home. Then friend comes over for tea, then we go out.

I'm eating peas. And have made really lovely fattoush, OMG this is the best salad in the world, I must make it more often.

filthymindedvixen · 08/07/2007 17:59

what is fattoush please?

I am trying to avoid doing my homework. And ironing boys' polo shirts. I have a madly busy day tomorrow too. Take boys to school, Tutorial in morning, then round to make birthday cake for friend's ds and decorate it. Then school pick up. Then mum and dad coming for a cuppa. then off to party. then home sharpish, then off dancing to support a friend who is running a workshop. (Am a little apprehensive that it might be too lential weavery, even for me. Circle dancing and ''universal dances of peace''. )

NotQuiteCockney · 08/07/2007 18:02

Stop ironing shirts! You have better things to do!

Fattoush is a lebanese salad, although my recipe is from an Aussie book:

Chop up, reasonably small:

  • tomatoes (deseeded, but not peeled)
  • non-english cucumber (deseeded and peeled)
  • sweet pepper
  • radish
  • green onion
  • a handful of mint
  • a handful of parsley

Dressing:

  • lemon juice
  • olive oil
  • cinnamon (should be sumac?)
  • salt and pepper

Just before serving, crumble up toasted flatbread and stir in.

NotQuiteCockney · 08/07/2007 18:03

(am frankly a bit that you iron polo shirts. it ruins the whole piratey thing you have going on)

FrannyandZooey · 08/07/2007 18:03

I am exhausted hearing about all these busy days

My sister would love them, she can't sit still. All the time she is here and you are sitting having a cup of tea or whatever and thinking "ah this is nice not to be rushing around", she is sitting there like a coiled spring or something and you can see she is hating it. It's very wearing.

OP posts:
NotQuiteCockney · 08/07/2007 18:04

I am a bit like this. (Ok, a lot like this, lately.)

If it helps, it's not that much fun for me, either.

NotQuiteCockney · 08/07/2007 18:04

(Oh, had a half of Leffe yesterday to see if it would help. It didn't really. But I was out for a walk with DH, so hyper was ok.)

filthymindedvixen · 08/07/2007 18:05

(It's the only thing I do iron. It's because my boys are so scruffy, permanantly. It's to stop them looking slightly less like cases for the social services IYKWIM )

(I am wearing S and C headscarf as we speak though!)

FrannyandZooey · 08/07/2007 18:06

Well you don't make me feel uncomfortable about sitting down, NQC, so I don't think you are exactly the same. But I am sorry, and I hadn't thought about it from her point of view. I just want to shout "SIT DOWN! WE ARE SITTING DOWN NOW, OK?"

OP posts:
filthymindedvixen · 08/07/2007 18:06

(that salad sounds lovely, will try it this week)
F&Z your sister sounds a little terrifiying..!

FrannyandZooey · 08/07/2007 18:08

Just a little?

She has a new car and Dp says it is something really special - Jaguar something? The bloke next door watched her drive off and then said "Did somebody win the lottery?" I didn't notice it was new - whooops

OP posts:
filthymindedvixen · 08/07/2007 18:12

ROFL - I bet she was really pissed off you ddn't notice. My sister is very flash but does that ''do you like my car, it's a jaguar you know...do you like my watch it's gucci you know...''

Generally I hate it....!
