For anyone who wants a boost to their general health. The suggested goals are:

EAT 10 PORTIONS OF FRUIT AND VEGETABLES EVERY DAY - if you don't usually eat much fruit and veg I would build up gradually or you could upset your digestion.

DO (AT LEAST) 10 MINUTES OF EXERCISE EVERY DAY - can be yoga, stretching or something more energetic. The plan is that the idea of doing 10 minutes is not too daunting, and having started you may well find you want to do more.

There are no restrictions on what you eat so long as you get your 10 fruit and veg as well. The focus is not on weight loss but on improving our energy levels and hopefully our general mood and well-being. Sign up below and post here to tell us how you're getting on and how you are feeling.

Basic guidance on what constitutes a portion of fruit and veg here and you can download more detailed information by following the link at the very bottom of the page

Mmm, I fancy veg stew, stew and dumplings

Franny - I don't think I overtook you but may have levelled just this once I found I was fruited out by four, can't manage another bit, well, might squeeze in another apple.

Boco - I am fussy about perfect bananas too, and don't you just hate fruit flies, they're everywhere but bananas in the fridge means banana smelling cos and so on.

I do my crunches all wrong apparently, like jane fonda, not good for the neck, I must try the leg up, leg out. leg all around way.

TooTicky · 29/06/2007 21:53

Oh, way too much to catch up on. My sympathies about the worm, Franny
I am going to bed with my unnaturally lively dcs.

FrannyandZooey · 30/06/2007 08:22

Right I can't keep up with everything that happened yesterday so am starting afresh

nectarines (2), strawberries, melon, raisins

MrsC I think you are being charitable, I didn't have an especially impressive day yesterday

Ooh, thanks

Do we get to wear more jewellery on here? I like Elizabethan.

100x has been working very hard on the secret thread. She has passed grubby tenners and everything and now is allowed to go on the secret pizza clique thingy. I bet she won't be good at keeping secrets.

I eat a lot of fruit but a lot of bad things too, though I resisted the pannacotta. It's the evenings where I fall down. Yesterday, I had Perry, fruit jelly, choc orange brownie and five fruit oatcakes, after dinner. Any tips gratefully received.

NotQuiteCockney · 30/06/2007 11:08

I have been having a lot of prunes. Not sure why.

I might try to make a courgette cake (lemon or choc, not sure) today. Or maybe I'll lie still. It has been a hell of a week, and both DSes seem a bit ill, too. Although they're running about madly today, and DS2 is dressed up as a space man.

MrsCarrot · 30/06/2007 11:15

My friend made a beetroot cake recently, it was delicious, she put the juice in the cream cheese as well so it went pink.

NotQuiteCockney · 30/06/2007 11:17

I've made a chocolate beetroot cake, it went down very well, but I didn't like it that much, I need to fiddle with the texture.

My courgette/lemon cake is very good, and I have the right amount of frozen grated courgette sitting in the freezer.

MrsCarrot · 30/06/2007 11:26

Why don't I have frozen grated courgette in the freezer?

My baking skill has deteriorated since I can't eat any of it. Much harder to resist the smell coming from the oven than a packet of biscuits.

NotQuiteCockney · 30/06/2007 11:27

I grated up a lot of courgette last week, and didn't feel that two courgette cakes were needed ... so ...

Well, carrot cake tastes carrotty, but courgette cake just tastes of whatever else you've put in it.

Apparently I am off out for lunch, it seems. I think I'll drink a big glass of gazpatcho instead, though ...

I've actually randomly put on a skirt (as am not biking out), it feels all weird.

The courgettes act as a humectant - they make the cake very moist. Here is the recipe I use.

All my baking is with vegetables and fruit in it, but they are all nice-tasting, anyway.

MrsCarrot · 30/06/2007 14:10

Mmm, I see there's no butter in it, I wonder if it would work with wheat free flour?

I tried a carrot cake but it came out quite biscuity, nice tasting, but you needed a bowl and spoon.

NotQuiteCockney · 30/06/2007 14:16

This is the carrot cake recipe I use - over and over.

Dunno about wheat free flour. I had to do a wheat-free dairy-free cake a while back, I ended up with a variation on Nigella's clementine cake, I think it's called. I was refusing to buy wheat-free flour or margarine, so was quite limited in my options. It came out well, anyway. DS1 has demanded that I make it again, anyway.

NotQuiteCockney · 30/06/2007 14:16

Oh, I've had a cup of gazpatcho again. DH has taken DS2 out to shop, I'm home with whingy ill DS1. DS1 is warm and inclined to burst into tears. DS2 threw up in the night, and was a bit warm on waking but seems otherwise fine. I had a sore throat, but am probably on the mend. WTF is up with this household.

Professorfilthymindedvixen · 30/06/2007 15:07

this cake talk is driving me demented...I don't have quite the right ingredients for any of thse...I feel a VSC with cream and raspvberries beckoning instead..

Have eaten shite today. But we're having a splendid veggie curry and side dishes for supper which will be plum full of goodness, to acompany Bride and Prejudice DVD

TooTicky · 30/06/2007 15:45

I am exhausted - have been for last week. Just want to sleep but need to draw superheroes with ds1 and make dd2's birthday cake.
Have eaten grapefruit, nectarine, few pieces of orange and some raisins.

FrannyandZooey · 30/06/2007 18:06

Hope all exhausted people feel better rested soon

I have had artichoke hearts and some stuffed vine leaves for lunch, plus a salad of rocket, cuc, tomato, avocado, red pepper, carrot and DS's PRIZE WINNING LETTUCE

Oooh, he won, he must be thrilled!

DS2 is definately ill, he's already tried to go to sleep this afternoon. Well, he did fall asleep in our room, but the phone woke him.

FrannyandZooey · 30/06/2007 18:46
