For anyone who wants a boost to their general health. The suggested goals are:

EAT 10 PORTIONS OF FRUIT AND VEGETABLES EVERY DAY - if you don't usually eat much fruit and veg I would build up gradually or you could upset your digestion.

DO (AT LEAST) 10 MINUTES OF EXERCISE EVERY DAY - can be yoga, stretching or something more energetic. The plan is that the idea of doing 10 minutes is not too daunting, and having started you may well find you want to do more.

There are no restrictions on what you eat so long as you get your 10 fruit and veg as well. The focus is not on weight loss but on improving our energy levels and hopefully our general mood and well-being. Sign up below and post here to tell us how you're getting on and how you are feeling.

Basic guidance on what constitutes a portion of fruit and veg here and you can download more detailed information by following the link at the very bottom of the page

Sorry. I didn't actually gag, but had i eaten the black bits, i may have done. Just to clarify. No Actual Gagging.

Boco · 29/06/2007 12:50

Can't you get a ryvita and break it into triangles and glue them together using...banana paste?

NotQuiteCockney · 29/06/2007 12:57

I've never bought ice cream cones, so not run into this problem.

Have made a giant batch of gazpatcho. Very tasty.

FrannyandZooey · 29/06/2007 12:59

Piss orf Boco

NQC have you something against cones?

OP posts:
NotQuiteCockney · 29/06/2007 13:00

No, nothing at all, I have an ice cream cone while I'm out and about, now and again. I've just never got in the habit of having cones at home.

NotQuiteCockney · 29/06/2007 13:01

Am liking Boco's plan.

Have to go get DS2 soon, and go to the farm with him, if the weather holds.

DH is back home today, and I've sorted the kitchen a bit. Our cleaner has become erratic on Fridays these days ...

Professorfilthymindedvixen · 29/06/2007 13:04

how about rolling up a sheet of fine sandpaper and filling it with icecream? Would be reuseable too, therefore very eco-friendly, no?

WaynettaSpice · 29/06/2007 13:11

this is still my favourite thread title - makes me smile every time I see it.

talcy0 · 29/06/2007 13:15

.....apple,curry,cherries, smoothie thing.....not allowed any exercise at all.
lots water, very spotty and a little grumpy.

SauerKraut · 29/06/2007 13:29

Have had grapes, apricot and tomatoes already today, which is a jolly good show considering my recent track record. Thank goodness for this thread, otherwise I might have stuck to biscuits and choc.
Have also been doing A Lot Of Walking. Although not today as we all have a minor dose of flu.

Very thin toast?

MrsCarrot · 29/06/2007 15:22

healthy cornets

Are those any good?

Right, a bit late checking in, busy morning, I've had:

2 kiwis, 1 banana, dried berries, 1 apple, 1 nectarine, 1 peach for breakfast (staggered not all in one go!)

Sushi with nori, ginger, alfalfa, cucumber and tomato, blueberry smoothie with oatbran, chicory and linseed. A very large chunk of watermelon shared with Lo and a few cherries.

Comfy on there, Franny, cushions plumped up are they?

NotQuiteCockney · 29/06/2007 16:16

Ok, completely exhausted from biking too much. DS1 is ill (and I sent him on the school trip ), and I'm not well, either. I think I will go have a shower, and see if that helps.

Those cones look and sound gross, but they're probably ok from a technical perspective ...

I can't work out how many servings there is in a big glass of gaspatcho - I put in a punnet of tomatoes (2), about six normal tomatoes (6), about half a large cucumber (3), a large pepper and a bag of small ones (3), three sticks of celery (3), so 17 servings in all. I think I get four cups from that, so it's about 4 servings per cup. (Yes, blended, but also fresh and uncooked, so worthwhile, I think.)

MrsCarrot · 29/06/2007 16:24

Sounds delicious, more delicious than those cones anyway, I agree they sound awful, surely they should have just a little sugar in?

Can you gargle cider vinegar and have mega doses of vit c? Always seems to help me when feel fluey.

NotQuiteCockney · 29/06/2007 16:27

The home-made cones sound lovely, and not that hard to make, surely?

NotQuiteCockney · 29/06/2007 16:28

I don't really do vitamins per se. I haven't tried gargling with vinegar, does it help with the sore throat? It sounds like a reasonable idea.

MrsCarrot · 29/06/2007 16:33

mmm, I have a big thing of cider vineagar in the fridge and drink it in things and put on salads etc, then if I have a sore throat I make a gargle from sage and salt and put the vinegar in when it's cooled. Is supposed to kill the bacteria and viruses as they multiply in the throat.

My vit C is a chewy Acerola cherry one so a bit more natural than Berroca or whatever but I know what you mean, should get it from food really

NotQuiteCockney · 29/06/2007 16:44

I'm eating a grapefruit now, for the vit c. While the DSes watch Samurai Jack.

Not sure what dinner will be, theoretically onion tart and steak. Maybe pasta and pesto, or maybe even fish and chips. Depending on how much I can be bothered. Not sure when DH is appearing, he is having a very bad time.

Oh, Frances, did you get those pictures?

MrsCarrot · 29/06/2007 16:49

Grapefruit seed extract a powerful antioxidant apparently, capable of completey inactivating viruses.

Don't suppose you can extract it yourself though.

NotQuiteCockney · 29/06/2007 18:27

DH is theoretically on his way home soon. I made a cheese and onion tart. I want to go to sleep. Or at least put the kids to sleep. Gah.

FrannyandZooey · 29/06/2007 18:52

Evening all

NQC yes I did, thanks, and I emailed back, is your email up the spout again? (NQC emailed me some pictures of a boat with ds's name on, which was very cute). If you haven't got the email, it also said that I have to work tomorrow, so can we make it another time? Sorry we keep postponing, it is not for lack of wanting to see you...

There is no way I am making home made cones for ice cream. It's just not the sort of thing that I enjoy or am good at. MrsC those ones on Goodness Direct were the best ones I could find, as well. Don't really look luscious, do they? I think I will carry on just having one once in a while and try not to think about what is in them.

I am full from a completely fab dinner of pasta and a big salad from our veg box with loads of rocket, and Pizza Express dressing which I have a great fondness for. Lunch was baked beans and black-eyed beans on toast, but I didn't feel like eating much of it, having just failed to remove a very impaled worm from ds's garden rake We were both in tears by the end of my attempt and I doubt the worm was exactly ecstatic.

OP posts:
FrannyandZooey · 29/06/2007 18:53

NQC would you try that elderberry extract thing? It is really good stuff. I hope you feel better soon and that everybody goes to bed soon.

OP posts:
NotQuiteCockney · 29/06/2007 19:42

I have not had an email from you, since I sent the boat one.

I'm afraid I have no clue of the elderflower you speak of.

I am a bit poorly, and both DSes seem out of sorts, so I don't think visiting would have been very practical tomorrow anyway.
