For anyone who wants a boost to their general health. The suggested goals are:

EAT 10 PORTIONS OF FRUIT AND VEGETABLES EVERY DAY - if you don't usually eat much fruit and veg I would build up gradually or you could upset your digestion.

DO (AT LEAST) 10 MINUTES OF EXERCISE EVERY DAY - can be yoga, stretching or something more energetic. The plan is that the idea of doing 10 minutes is not too daunting, and having started you may well find you want to do more.

There are no restrictions on what you eat so long as you get your 10 fruit and veg as well. The focus is not on weight loss but on improving our energy levels and hopefully our general mood and well-being. Sign up below and post here to tell us how you're getting on and how you are feeling.

Basic guidance on what constitutes a portion of fruit and veg here and you can download more detailed information if you follow the link at the very bottom of the page

I have eaten barely anything today. Though I have done my usual Friday allotment workout and spent 3 hours pacing (waiting for missing Asda delivery boy...

I had no food in the house til he arrived and by then it was too late. I had muesli. And a plum. And lots of tea.

Lullabyloo · 22/06/2007 19:22

Avi...anytime lovely
If you get a move on there's warm lentil salad in a minute

Mrscarrot · 22/06/2007 19:29

we have tin from Waitrose in the cupboard. It has a particulalry retro old fashiondey label and I like looking at it when I get a tin out. Never want to eat it though, those cherries are a phenomenon.

filthymindedvixen · 22/06/2007 19:30

they glow in the dark...

Mrscarrot · 22/06/2007 19:32

Do they really? How exciting, we'll have to have a late night forage and check out the radioactive beacons lighting the way for all the cubed fruits.

lionheart · 22/06/2007 19:37

That t-shirt is fab.

Do those cherries actually grow on a tree?

ahundredtimes · 22/06/2007 19:41

Not so wonderful today. Three cups of coffee (proving hard to give up but am cutting down slowly as per franny's advice) and quite a lot of water. Had 2 apples and 3 plums, bowl of muesli with yoghurt and will have mushroom stroganoff tonight.

FrannyandZooey · 22/06/2007 19:52

I have been shite today

OP posts:
ahundredtimes · 22/06/2007 19:59

OK i have been umming and aahing and have decided to throw myself at your feet and ask for help.

I don't eat anywhere near the 10 a day and feel terribly guilty as I am also heavily pregnant. Please help bully me into fruit and veg submission. I do actually like fruit and veg I just don't have a huge appetite so if I eat carbs etc I can go hours and hours without thinking about eating again. So f/v is not really getting a look in.

Today I had a banana

Does Alpen count? I've got a feeling it doesnt

talcy0 · 22/06/2007 20:35

update ....lettuce, tmato, cucumber, cherries[thanks to lullabyloo for the exotic fruit]=8 f&v

+bowl of nuts and rasins[chocolate covered]

Mrscarrot · 22/06/2007 20:41

Lulumamasmentee, try eating some fruit first?

I often don't fancy any after porridge or toast but you could easily add banana to your alpen, and grapes or even strawbs, bluberries and raspberries at the moment. I wouldn't try to be drastic, it can have a little 'loose' effect which you probably don't want in late pregnancy! Make small steps.

Franny- I've just ordered some wool and bells, when it arrives I would be very pleased to do one for you wakny basket classes, as long as you won't be disappointed by a less than perfect sphere.

I sat on here way too long last night, then was so wired when I went to bed I couldn't sleep, consequently, I haven't bothered with much healthy stuff today. A nectarine, avocado, salad things, spring onion radishes etc. Raspberries.

Is anyone wishing they were at Glastonbury? We went 2 years ago, sans mini carrots, and had great fun. I thiink if we went back I'd like the tipi field. My mother is working there this year, selling popcorn in some cabaret bit in Lost Vagueness.

lionheart · 22/06/2007 20:49

I don't find Glastonbury so appealing but wished I'd gone to WoMaD.

Mrscarrot · 22/06/2007 20:56

ooh, I'd love to go to Womad, I never have but would like to go with the lo's maybe?

We went to Latitude in Suffolk last year, that was ok. Had a weekend pass but only went on the sunday, was pregnant and didn't feel much like it.

Really enjoyed Jose Gonzales though, the bouncy ball one

filthymindedvixen · 22/06/2007 22:26

MrsC - I am torn twixt my fab memories of 7 years of Glasto and wanting dh and kids to experience it. And thinking It's like, so mainstream now, dah-ling, I prefer the more Intimate festivals...

we're sadly watching om BBC3 and doing interactive. Gogol bordellos were fantastic!

TooTicky · 22/06/2007 23:12

Dp is anxious for you all to know that during the war, glace cherries were made from seaweed. Also, the seeds in raspberry jam were in fact small pieces of wood.

Right, since earlier, have had stirfried red pepper, courgette, carrot, onion, garlic. Have also eaten peanut butter (natural enough, surely). So 16 out of 26. Can I count the oats, banana and coconut in dd2's chocolate blobs? She is a very keen cook btw and not yet 2...

FrannyandZooey · 23/06/2007 07:44

I have just eaten a whole mango (would have started on another one but was nabbed by ds and dp who gave me stick about it) and plenty of strawberries and melon. PLus usual raisins etc.

Talcy how's your toe? Did you sort out the manky polish yet?

TooT the chocolate blobs definitely count I am sure. Any chance of a recipe or was it a 2 year old's invention?

100x, you know I don't think yesterday was too bad, but you were obviously still upset at the lack of sternness on here. You could phone one of those 0898 numbers if you really feel the need for someone to tell you how naughty you are...

Lulumamasmentee I would also recommend fruit, but you can't snack on fruit if there isn't any in the house, so fill up your fruitbowl with some tempting things. What kind of thing do you have for lunch and dinner? If you only eat one vegetable a day try to make it a green leafy one. (I need reminding on this as well)

I'm not really missing being at any festivals in this weather. We're going to End of the Road in September and a little folky one next week (if we can get the car fixed in time )

MrsC an imperfect sphere would be charming, thank you so much

FMF I am kind of unnerved by that website. I got "nobody puts Franny and Zooey in the corner" which made me LOL

everyone else and you are all doing brilliantly

Hello!

I've been having a horrible couple of days with migraines and period and stress..

Better now though, and I've been trying to keep up. I've certainly been eating more fruit than normal.

Anyhoo - today so far just a handful of grapes and some apple juice.

Dd2 and I are currently eating hazelnut cereal with pumpkin seeds and raspberries.
The chocolate blobs were (as invented by dd2 and me):
most of a mashed banana
4oz margarine
4oz sugar
2oz coconut
2oz oats plus a few more
4oz wholemeal SR flour
Mixed as appropriate and blobbed onto a baking tray and naked They were delicious.

TooTicky · 23/06/2007 10:07

OMG I do mean baked not naked!!

lionheart · 23/06/2007 10:10

lol

Lullabyloo · 23/06/2007 12:11

Usual 15 mins on trainer
Mango, banana, peach, blackberry, raspberry fruit salad & brazil nuts for brekkie

Lunch is fennel & broad bean rissoto & tomato & basil salad.

Franny...can I pick your brains about the best weight exercises for flabby arms?????

FrannyandZooey · 23/06/2007 18:46

Lullaby I just do bicep curls, and triceps on the machine

plus I am meant to do shoulder raises but I always cop out as I am meant to do them with a ball squat and I hate it

Thanks for the recipe TooT. I am kind of wondering where the chocolate in that recipe is

Nannyogg hope you feel better now...
