For anyone who wants a boost to their general health. The suggested goals are:

EAT 10 PORTIONS OF FRUIT AND VEGETABLES EVERY DAY - if you don't usually eat much fruit and veg I would build up gradually or you could upset your digestion.

DO (AT LEAST) 10 MINUTES OF EXERCISE EVERY DAY - can be yoga, stretching or something more energetic. The plan is that the idea of doing 10 minutes is not too daunting, and having started you may well find you want to do more.

There are no restrictions on what you eat so long as you get your 10 fruit and veg as well. The focus is not on weight loss but on improving our energy levels and hopefully our general mood and well-being. Sign up below and post here to tell us how you're getting on and how you are feeling.

Basic guidance on what constitutes a portion of fruit and veg here and you can download more detailed information if you follow the link at the very bottom of the page

in haste

you are all marvellous

TooT yes point taken, I was guessing the doctor probably considered it a natural product along with meat and fish but I do see what you mean

custy, eat nuts, they are fab for you, and JOIN US [sends brainwashing waves over internet to custy]

anorak I bet if you know his name we can find his email

nannyogg fill up your fruit bowl with delicious stuff and it will appear far more tempting than boring old biscuits

anorak · 18/06/2007 12:52

this is the doctor.

Mrscarrot · 18/06/2007 12:59

also, my dc's really like lightly toasted nuts and seeds with a splash of tamari on them, not as good as raw (think heating prob does something} but they're better than crisps!

Franny- do you think the detoxing that you had at the beginning of algae is ok with bf, not sure if all the crap will go into the milk?

I have only had two oatcakes so far, but have vegi sushi in the fridge and nectarines for lunch, think it has nori, mini corns, beetroot, spinach, carrot and cucumber in it.

anorak · 18/06/2007 13:01

I have emailed him

anorak · 18/06/2007 13:31

Well that didn't work, my email bounced back.

talcy0 · 18/06/2007 15:28

rightyo....checking in
...so far so good....

dried berries,banana,satsuma,raisins,apple,mixed nuts.

lots of water and brisk walking...
also carried £19 worth fruit and veg from shop.

I have fat thighs.

Cappuccino · 18/06/2007 15:31

good christ I am bored of my anti-candida diet

I want to eat grapes and drink beer

have had houmous, carrot sticks

plan squash for tea

tbh I find five a day hard without fruit unless I eat a salad and sometimes, well sometimes all you have in the fridge is a dried-up spring onion

nannyogg · 18/06/2007 15:38

Right - so far glass of 100% pure apple juice, three apricots , 7 cherry toms with a sarnie for lunch and I've been munching on dried sultanas and fresh grapes here at work (biscuits to tempt me here too!)

Tonight will be vegetable stir fry, and I'm going to make a fruit salad for afterwards.

Now - is the stir fry ok, or does the frying negate the veg portion?

No time for any formal exercise yet other than running around after 2 year old DD. I will either walk the dog later, or get dd involved in a session of dancing around the living room to Kylie or Mika (or both)..

FrannyandZooey · 18/06/2007 16:05

anorak that email looks to me like it should just be michael.beary@ etc, without the email, but that is just a guess

MrsC good question I will phone the radiant one to check

talcy you have strong, womanly thighs

Capp what are you doing with the squash?

Nannyogg you are steaming ahead! The stir fry is fine, you can cook the fruit and veg or do whatever you want with it as long as you eat it. I think stir frying is one of the healthier ways of cooking isn't it?

Have cycled about 3.5 miles with an enormous child on the back of the bike

have eaten a banana, and cooked a cauliflower, sweet potato, onion, carrot, kidney bean, butter bean, tomato and mushroom stew for tonight

OP posts:
FrannyandZooey · 18/06/2007 16:09

MrsC she says it is fine, but just start with a very small amount and build up gradually

OP posts:
talcy0 · 18/06/2007 16:12

thanks franny, would like my strong and womanly thighs to fit into my jeans!!!

when you say enormous child....get visions of 'honey i blew up the kids' child

FrannyandZooey · 18/06/2007 16:22

no I think he is 3 stone

he is a whopper anyway

OP posts:
talcy0 · 18/06/2007 17:14

update....cherry tomatoes, cucumber, lettuce, celery, blueberries, ...cous cous[does that count?}

feeling rather pleased with myself.

FrannyandZooey · 18/06/2007 18:10

Talcy couscous could count as one of the 26 natural foods (wheat, isn't it?) but not one of your f+v

The link in the OP tells you what counts and doesn't count as a portion

god this is getting confusing, maybe we DO need another thread for this 26 thing

OP posts:
FrannyandZooey · 18/06/2007 18:10

Oh and good stuff btw! How many portions does that make, then?

OP posts:
talcy0 · 18/06/2007 18:12

no no, tis ok, was being thicko.....
will stick to f&v feedback

talcy0 · 18/06/2007 18:14

11 f & v

thats more than i'd normally have in 72 hours

FrannyandZooey · 18/06/2007 18:15

WOOOOOOHOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO go Talcy

erm....not wanting to burst your bubble, but you may not wish to stray too far from a toilet tomorrow

just a word to the wise

OP posts:
talcy0 · 18/06/2007 18:17

the gut will be in turmoil!!

FrannyandZooey · 18/06/2007 19:47

In a few days though you will be feeling full of vitality &c &c

you might feel a bit headachey or grotty in the meantime - don't panic, it's normal if you change to very healthy eating suddenly

I dunno, anorak's doctor said little portions of everything

it is a new way of thinking about healthy eating anyway

On the 26 front I have had: melon, raisins, oats, pear, kiwi, sunflower seeds, pumpkin seeds, wheat, peanuts, banana, tomatoes, cauli, sweet potato, butter beans, kidney beans, mushrooms, onion, red onion, carrot, apple = 20, not so good today. Have discounted soya milk and cow's milk as not passing muster

does nettle tea or redbush tea count do you reckon? I do remember reading somewhere that TEA could count as one of your 5 a day ha ha ha ha haaaah

MerryMarigold · 18/06/2007 20:54

what's an unnatural food?

i had crisps for breakfast and chocolate cake for lunch! (the cake was home-made - so is it natural?).

f&v been very bad since sat which was my birthday - had big bbq, lots of meat, puddings, cake, fizzy drinks....

FrannyandZooey · 18/06/2007 21:02

ooh I would say angel delight is probably not the most natural offering in the world
