For anyone who wants a boost to their general health. The suggested goals are:

EAT 10 PORTIONS OF FRUIT AND VEGETABLES EVERY DAY - if you don't usually eat much fruit and veg I would build up gradually or you could upset your digestion.

DO (AT LEAST) 10 MINUTES OF EXERCISE EVERY DAY - can be yoga, stretching or something more energetic. The plan is that the idea of doing 10 minutes is not too daunting, and having started you may well find you want to do more.

There are no restrictions on what you eat so long as you get your 10 fruit and veg as well. The focus is not on weight loss but on improving our energy levels and hopefully our general mood and well-being. Sign up below and post here to tell us how you're getting on and how you are feeling.

Basic guidance on what constitutes a portion of fruit and veg here and you can download more detailed information if you follow the link at the very bottom of the page

Its sounds great, except for the first one. With a soup club, do you have to eat it and be polite?

StrangeTown · 06/06/2007 11:12

No, we give marks out of 10 for silly things like presentation, smell, texture, colour ( we don't like kahki)but we do usually eat up

StrangeTown · 06/06/2007 11:13

I am having difficulty with the orders. Doing OK with number 2, but number 1 is tough.

TooTicky · 06/06/2007 12:44

Am currently eating lettuce, cucumber, tomato, avocado, pumpkin seeds and sunflower seeds. Had muesli with lots of seeds and fresh apricots this morning.
Have walked two brisk miles so far - two more later.

janeite · 06/06/2007 16:52

What do I have to do to join? Today I have eaten:

radishes
grapes
carrots
nuts and seeds with yoghurt (don't know if they count)
Innocent Smoothie

For dinner I'm going to have a veggie curry, so should count as several portions. Does it count as another if I add a tin of chickpeas to it?

Will then have a fruit salad, probably made up of melon, mango and raspberries.

Have walked for about 25 minutes so far today but will probably go for a walk before dinner as it's so lovely and warm.

I'd really like to try this, so will keep an eye on the thread for inspiration!

FrannyandZooey · 06/06/2007 18:42

Janeite, just jump in and post when you feel like it, most of us tend to report what we have eaten / done some activity but we also just chat and try to support one another

Your chickpeas do count but not nuts and seeds (great thing to eat though). Sounds like you will easily get your 10 today. There's a link in the OP which tells you what counts towards the 10 and gives portions sizes etc. You're doing brilliantly! Eating like this is lovely but it is easy to slip and be lazy without the focus of the thread, I find. I hope it is helpful to you as well.

StrangeTown welcome back! No we will not exclude you from our midnight feasts as long as you promise to come and see us sometimes. The soup club sounds inspired and also hilarious. What a fab idea.

TheQofC I KNEW it had to be from a song. However I still have this idea about Squeeze, except I don't think it IS Squeeze, and also I think it is the King of something, instead. Can anyone tell me what the ruddy hell I am thinking of because it is driving me mad?

The beach makes the best playground, it really does.

CarrotMisses · 06/06/2007 21:11

Oh all right!

Would rather be 'Mrs' than carrot person...

I just thought all the Mrs around was a bit boring?

Lionhart, you have cracked it! An exercise bike is the way forward, solves all the, can I run with baby, massive tits, leaky milk probs etc

Morrocan chickpea and vegetable soup for lunch, carrot and cashew flan with green bean salad, raw cabbage, cucumber, onion pakora and strawberries. An apple.

Glad to be of service, CM.

My tip is to try not to stare at the little electronic counter because willing it to move faster just doesn't work.

Mrscarrot · 06/06/2007 21:47

I'm afarid I am M C again

It's Franny's fault

She is feeling most omnipitent now that she's had her algae

lionheart · 06/06/2007 21:53

Have anyone tried chardonnay carrots, they're very tasty?

lionheart · 06/06/2007 22:08

They have those blue carrots in SB. Chardonnay carrots do sound appealing.

Mrscarrot · 06/06/2007 22:15

eww, blue carrots, how does that happen?

Chardonnay carrots are sort of stumpy and creamy, we ate a whole bag of raw ones

TooTicky · 06/06/2007 22:16

We're growing blue corn this year. Well, I hope we are, but am slightly anxious I may have buried them too deep.
Lettuce, tomato, cuc, avocado, apricots, kohl rabi, carrots, more apricots, grapefruit, raisins = 10
4 good miles walking too.

Mrscarrot · 06/06/2007 22:19

What makes them blue?

greatbigonion · 06/06/2007 22:21

oh y'know. just life. The uncertaintity. What's it all about eh...

Mrscarrot · 06/06/2007 22:23

ooh, you with all your deep layers

greatbigonion · 06/06/2007 22:23

If I peel them off, will that make me blue?

lionheart · 06/06/2007 22:23

They need not be orange, see here.

Something about returning them to their original colour (before they were farmed and made to look more appealing).
